The 1:06 commercial, her open legged pose and the “nothing comes between” line is overtly sexual. They made a sex symbol out of a young girl. But, boy, she was definitely one of the most gorgeous girls of the early 80s!

I find it disturbing that in her latest book she talks about how 'ridiculous and insane' the media was for assuming these commercials had sexual undertones...and that there was nothing sexual about them. Although, she does admit that it would hurt to think the writers were taking advantage of her without her knowledge. I find it hard to believe how neither she nor her mom could not see how some of the positions, situations, and statements would not be considered as such. Even looking at it today it doesn't seem completely innocent. She goes on defending the commercials saying no one took notice of the great literature, social and political references etcetera included in these "well conceived" commercials. I was a teen at the time and these commercials always got our attention ...well it certainly stopped the boys in their tracks. I wonder if their isn't just a little denial there on her part.

All I could say is thank God she was never kidnapped or hurt in any way especially during those weird times/era of serial killers and pedophilia. They truly protected her (well I hope they did) and I must agree with everyone who says she was the most beautiful back then. Cindy Crawford reminds me of her and vice versa. Still very beautiful women to this day and both live quiet low key lives it seems.

In my “free”high school , all the teachers slept with the teenage students, I didn’t but all my friends were being abused. Shrinks, teachers, no adult was safe back then. Virginity was a bad word, something others decided how to have it be taken away, “as soon as a child starts to feel anything sexual ( which even babies do), they MUST act on that.” Children! Poor Shields, poor every girl, teenager, or adolescent, who, in the early seventies, was raised for the pleasure of powerful, in any slight sense, men. Many lives were ruined, lost opportunities for education, and distrust for life.

These are about the most cheesiest commercials ever made! I'm embarrassed for her! And for a little history lesson, these jeans were not worn by teenagers at the time, for the most part, they were for "old" people, like women in their 30's and 40's. I only knew moms who wore these. Kids never did, they had an old, boring image.

second ad. The "beauty" monologue. Amazing push of the envelope. would never get away with this today. Pulling the ad apart: an obviously adult male voice-over spoken in an audibly sexualised tone to a seemingly naive & precocious 14/15 yr old Brooke Shields; the young male model supposedly whose thoughts are dubbed by the flirtatious monologue merely there to offset the shock of the two elements. Subtle, suggestive shock-advertising not seen since. Brilliance.

I love these ads. Yes, they were alluring, but that's because Brooke Shields was so breathtakingly beautiful that we the viewers couldn't help looking and looking and looking. And, yes, she was flirtatious and sexy, but neither obscene nor vulgar. That she didn't have a problem with doing the ads then and carries no shame for them in retrospect is nothing to criticize her for. Brooke Shields was a gorgeous teen, and whatever you make of that, she has become a part of our pop culture. Better still is that through the years, she has matured into an emotionally healthy family woman, free of the scandal of drug addiction that often meets child stars. So I don't understand why the bashing. Besides, Brooke Shields would not have been the first underaged female to be made up to act as a woman. Lana Turner, Elizabeth Taylor, Twiggy, Milla Jovovich ... these are some famous beauties who were not yet 18 when they started to captivate men (and the rest of the world).
