In a world that is constantly telling you who you should be, it can be difficult to stay true to who are and forge your own path.
Throughout my financial journey, I grew older, developed my own ideas, learned hard lessons from failures, and discovered more about myself than I ever thought I would. Completing the steps to financial freedom is easy - the path to self-awareness isn’t.
Nothing is more important than discovering who you are, what you truly want, and having the confidence to make the decisions necessary to get you to where you want to go in life. The steps to Financial freedom aren’t black and white. There isn’t a cookie-cutter formula for everyone. Why? Because everyone is different. Our lives are all unique. My steps are an outline for you to follow, but how you complete them is up to you.
Some say that leaves too many unanswered questions, but it’s those hard questions that I want you to answer for yourself. No matter what someone is telling, or what advice you are following, you will never FEEL successful with your money if you don’t believe in the work you are doing. You can’t blindly follow what someone is telling you. It’s up to you to do the hard work, to listen to your heart, and know in your gut you are making the right decision for you and your family.

I don’t know how but you’ve managed to package an unbiased analysis that is more entertaining than the sensationalized segment of economic and financial news. Thank you for your efforts to be the signal and not the noise. I understand that the economy is currently in a downturn and that we must wait for things to get better.

As hard as it may sound you can plan for the recession. If you are working, find extra work and get an Invest--advisor. Protect your deposits by having enough cash in short term fixed income. Then cut your expenses. Minimal insurance, cut utilities.

Exactly why i enjoy my day to day market decisions being guided by a portfolio-coach, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not outperform, been using a portfolio-coach for over 2years+ and I've netted over $800k.

It would be a very innovative suggestion to look out for Financial Advisors like Catherine Morrison Evans who can help shape up your portfolio. Trying times are ahead, and good personal financial management will be very important to weather the storm.

1 - Establish you WHY. What motivates you? 2 - Prioritize your financial goals. short, medium and long term. 3 - Bring awareness into your life (track your spending) 4 - Create a budget calendar 5 - Create/establish/tweak your budget 6 - Cash envelope 7 - Debt attack plan (there is no one right way) 8 - Maximize retirement 9 - Long term goal focus I love these steps. I have a lot of problems with dave ramsey sometimes (i.e. how he is so fixated on snowball and the whole rice and beans thing) and this is so much more realistic and i think speaks to a lot of people. thanks for the amazing video miko! Also I like how its more generic, so for me (as a non american) i can see how it fits into how our system works etc (college is not something we need to save for, for instance, nor is health care).

Beans and rice is just a metaphor, but the rigidity of the $1,000 emergency fund (even in the middle of pandemic where we clearly see the inadequacy of $1,000), the way he jokes that he can’t rent from the local apartment complex because he doesn’t have a credit score, but he can buy the building - well some of us need to rent from that apartment complex!

Lisa Wise $1000 is only a beginner fund. He doesn’t promote that for life. Baby step 3 is 3-6 month emergency fund. I’ve also heard him in his show talk to someone who was calling in to dispute the amount that yeah it’s not enough but ultimately it was up to your circumstances. For a large percentage of people even a $1000 is a harsh goal

I totally agree with you on still having a life and making memories. Paying off debt is important but nothing is more important than family. Your kids are only young once and you never get that time back. This is one area I disagree with Dave Ramsey on. Taking some money for a cheap vacation and extending my payoff a few months to make lasting memories with my children is well worth it. Especially if paying off debt is gonna take a few years.

When the market goes down then it's buying opportunity. If the market goes up then you are making money. If you stay invested and ignore the market's ups and downs, you'll make a lot of money in the long run; however, a severe market correction causes a lot of margin calls and sell-offs, driving the market even lower. currently, I'm up 13% in my diversified portfolio. As crazy as it sounds some still make enormous returns from this seemingly unknown market. gotta be greedy when others are fearful

I just Love the way of you making this a more personal Journey that is individual for everybody in a different way! It Made me a Little sad that a lot of people answered my question about my starter emergency fund in different groups just in the Same way, to Save 1000€ First Bedford starting other things.. But I felt that for me it Mayas doesnt Need to be the exact Same number somebody else is saving if my way is different than theirs, right?! Thanks for giving us a path we can choose and still be able to fit things into our needs and life! Started saving my emergency fund but always had the feeling that I want to do different things besides it Weile doing it, But the fact that there are experts out there that say you need to save THiS amount of money first got me a little distracted and left me unsure if MY path was wrong...

I'm so glad I found your channel. I resonate with this so much! I am also a visual learner and will be implementing the cash envelope system.... I over swipe my card too often. I check my debit accounts and see $30-50 remaining and wonder WTH happened 🤔😂

I am in the financial services industry and your approach to budgeting by paycheck, saving, debt repayment, and tracking is the most comprehensible system. I think your approach to finances is much better than Dave Ramsey as I feel he comes from a place of judgement and it’s a very black and white approach. You bring zero judgement while reminding people that their savings goals and approach may be different and that’s ok as long as financial freedom is the end goal. I always find value in watching your videos. Thank you!

A year later watching this video and I finally paid off my car back in April! A couple months early than my projected June date. I’m not gonna lie, those stimulus checks during Covid definitely helped out A LOT. I put it to good use and also added my money from my paycheck on top of that! Now, I’m tackling my student loan payment. I paid $4,600 in interest ALONE! during the pandemic I saved every penny during the 0% interest to pay off that damn interest because I would never touch the principal payment if I didn’t pay it off. That shit made me mad girl! Lol Miko your doing the lords work! I love your budgeting practices!

This makes me realize I still havent found a method to budget that I can stick to. I'm so busy that I lose paper. I forget where I store electronic copies. So far I've been using google keep lol. Not great but it's a guideline

Have you tried google sheets? I use it instead of excel-super easy to set up, and I can access it from any computer or my phone to update it. Also was able to share it with my husband so he can update it in real time too.

You just need to be consistent. Decide to store your items one way. Keep all your notes all in the same place. Keep all your bookmarks in the same place. Documents etc. I used to be so unorganized but I just realized I don’t have to use all the tools available to me I just needed to be consistent with minimum tools.

maybe look into some apps? There are some really good ones out there (I just never wanted to pay for them and only used the free part haha, i use a paper clever fox planner). One app even turns it into a game, so you build a little village! But it didnt roll over the way I wanted it too, So i quit after a month.

What about a budget notebook that you keep on a desk or on a bookshelf in your home? You can keep it visible and set reminders in your phone to go to the budget notebook (or planner) and use it to keep track of your funds.
