I think there's some key ingredients that make this the most hype reveal they've had: 1) Geese is an iconic fighting game character, of course. Nearly everyone at Evo (except Anakin apparently, lol) would be familiar with Geese, even if only as a fighting game meme. He's definitely one of the most memorable characters SNK ever created. 2) Owing to that status, Geese has of course come up in hypothetical "what if" fantasy fight scenarios with fans. There was even that Heihachi vs Geese fan video from Screwattack that got quite a response. So having that scenario come true is a big deal. This is unlike Noctis, and especially unlike Negan. Hearing the growing realization of the crowd (a few realized it immediately) build to a crescendo really made the reaction feel huge. 3) This is best representation of Geese...ever...up to this point. Not only do you get an iconic character, but you see them re-imagined in a way they simply hadn't existed before (high quality 3D graphics + animation). Were KOF XIV a better looking game, this point wouldn't be as big, but with that game's graphical shortcomings, seeing Geese like this was really a treat. 4) The trailer itself is great, with fantastic build up to the reveal of Geese. Compare it to like...any of Soul Calibur's trailers for its main cast, which are all cookie-cutter and not very interesting.

You can tell that the idiot is just an attention seeking moron; he would look at the camera from time to time rather than actually watch the trailer, as if looking for some consolation from the audience as to how shocked he is, then would casually pat JDCR on the shoulder and look at the camera again without actually even watching the trailer because he's pretending to be hyped when he has not a single clue who the hell this character is.
