Solar panels and led lighting have transformed off grid caravanning choices. I really feel that you deserve a larger audience Mark as your videos are informative and honest, I learn something new from each one.

we are new to caravanning and i have learned more from a few of marks videos then i have from dozens of others on youtube. as you say honest and no chit chat just for the sake of it. I often wonder why this channel does not have more subscribers, i wanted to buy a van from the place but just to far from me

Hi Mark fing all your videos of great use. Just one for you most 📺 are twelve volts even though they have a 3 pin plug. So I use a small inverter that you plug into the twelve vault plug socket just for the TV and surprisingly it uses very little from the battery. Try it one day. Thanks Doug.

Very interesting video. I dont have a solar panal but do have a socket or fitting for one built into van. Bailey Pegasus G65 Genoa. Might think about having one fitted in the future. TFS.

That was interesting, thanks. We use non EHU sites and C&CC Temporary Holiday sites with no EHU quite often. Indeed later next month we shall be using an non EHU and a THS without EHU for a couple of weeks. It just takes a bit of confidence and one eye on your gas and one on your battery! Modern caravans (like your Bailey) will have all LDC lighting which takes little power. After dark we only have a couple of lights on anyway and the TV/DVD for about an hour a night and we manage off-grid for two or three weeks, or even more, easily. Our inbuilt solar panel is 80W. We use a 6 kg bottle of gas every 10 days or so. Remember in the summer when the weather is warm your fridge will use more gas. People think you need a sunny day to charge with the solar panel, but you just need daylight. Of course the sunnier it is the quicker the panel will charge your battery. I have a couple of questions. How many watts is the panel on your Bailey? You said that there was no grey waste disposal and there was no Wastemaster connected up? Were you just draining your grey waste out onto your pitch? We have always collected out grey waste into the Wastemaster and then emptied it into the hedge or side of the field. Thanks again. As a Brummie now living in the Scottish Highlands, I love listening to your commentaries.

Hi Keith, the Bailey is fitted with a Truma 100w panel, yes we were literally on a field and as long as no bleach or other nasties it was just literally onto the grass. Not even a toilet disposal point😳Thanks for your comments 👍

We've toyed with using a Solar Panel to trickle feed the leisure battery during the coming Winter months. However, with low Winter sunlight levels, I think we're going to resort to periodically plugging the van into the mains using the inbuilt transformer/ charger 🤞

The ecoflow powerbanks are very good. If you went for a 2 or 3 kW you could stay off grid for a week or so, using it to charge the caravan battery and odd 230v

Great informative video. Be good to get an idea of how much difference the solar panel makes. Mine will have a 100W one fitted.
@thecaravanplace
@thecaravanplace 3 жыл бұрын
The 100w panel will pretty much keep your battery at 12v and then keep topping it back up when you are not using the power, so as long as you have a decent battery you will have no issues.

Hi John, the fridges normally have a warning when the gas is out, sometimes a beeping. They used to supply small bottles of toilet chemical and the 2 holes under the cassette were for these bottles. 👍

I always wonder with off grid in winter, what uses more power and what uses more gas, alde wet central heating or blown air? If that was your winter style of caravaning, which is best?
@thecaravanplace
@thecaravanplace 3 жыл бұрын
I believe the Alde would use more gas as it does take a long time to get up to temperature so needs to run longer at start up, but may be better once up to temperature. Would be a good test to be honest 👍

@@thecaravanplace Well in that case I will wait for your video on it 😉. Blown air has to power the fan too but then Alde has a pump so 🤷‍♂️
