Thank you, my blade holder snapped and I was quoted £160 for a new key. Bought a case and pliers off a well known internet retailer for £13 and spent 45 minutes to swap over the original key blade into the new case. Used a sharpening stone to file a tiny bit off the blade so it fitted the new case. This video was invaluable in saving me time and money.

thanks for this video. Managed to do re-shell my wife's Skoda key following your guide. Biggest issue was finding someone to cut the new blade (only) as i already had the shell. None of the chains will do it so ended up at a local locksmith. I had tried to knock the pin out to swap the blades but gave up after a while (must need a hell of a lot of force!). Worth the effort in the end. About £35 all in including £10 for a 12mm OEM Skoda logo. Still half the price Timpson wanted to charge... and i learnt something. Thank you.

Just followed this video after my key broke in the same place. Bought a key body off amazon and then followed these instructions. It worked perfectly and was exactly the same as the video. I elected to use the blade from my old key vs getting the new one cut. The punch was a bit tough, but I got the pin out, I then ground down the old blade to the same profile of the new blade and it worked perfectly. Just grind a little at a time and test fit as you go. I also used a dot of blue thread lock at the end to hold the pin for the blade back in. Thank you for the video and instructions, worked perfectly.

Thank you so much for this very useful video which has helped me to repair my broken Volkswagen key. I have watched several videos on this topic and yours is the best by far. Your video has been the only one that has shown how to open the new case and how to safely open the old key. You have saved me a lot of money: the new case was only 9.95 Euros. Again, thank you a lot!

Thanks for the video. It helped me with replacing the fob for the key to my 2002 Skoda Octavia. My problem was that the metal loop at the end opposite the blade had broken off so I couldn't put the fob on a keyring, so I just swapped blade and circuit board. However, the immobiliser then stopped the engine from running. After quite a bit of Googling, I discovered that the RFID chip that the immobiliser system uses is in a tiny glass tube that's glued deep in a little recess right next to the blade pivot. Once I'd managed to extract the tube and get it glued securely in the new fob, the key worked perfectly.

Thanks for this video. Ordered a replacement key body from you and just rebuilt my key. used a combination of a belt/disc sander and a file to shorten the key blade and didn't have to file a new groove. Works brilliantly. Only bit of info i would add is to make sure you wind the blade holder round so that you tension the spring enough so it pops out like the original. Test it before you tap in the locking rod.

Thank you very much for this very helpful video. This worked like a charm on my 2013 VW Passat key! I saved all my bother and got my key cut, and it was easy to switch. I managed to use a pair of regular needle nose pliers (didn't have those spreaders) and just pulled it apart. Took a little muscle, but I did manage to break it open without damaging the brains. Brain transplant was easy, and boom...or should I say, Bob's your uncle. Many thanks!

I did this exact procedure on my fob for a 2012 VW Golf. In the video at time stamp 6:08 when I removed the circuit board, the gold looking switch got separated from the board and was stuck to the flexible rubber part of the keyboard. It may have bee intentionally glued by VW, I don't know for shure. I managed to remove it from the rubber part and re-glued it with a very thin layer of instant glue taking care to place it to meet the section on the circuit board and luckily it worked. If not, I would not the unlock function on the fob would not function. So beware.

Excellent video! That was exactly what I was looking for! I bought a new case from Amazon. They shipped it in a bag with a small Phillips head screwdriver. I’m not sure why since there isn’t a single Phillips head screw anywhere within the case, but no worries. My bigger concern was I didn’t see a replacement pin! It turns out the brilliant folks at Amazon put a large inventory sticker over the clear side of the bag the key case came in when they could have put it on the opaque side. There was a very small zip lock bag inside that had a new pin! Imagine that!

This looks real good easy and cheap to get. Can anyone give me a name in Sussex who will cut the new blade? Everyone seems to want to do the whole job £120 - £250. Went ahead and transferred my blade. I have plenty of small files and a Dremel. I had to adjust just about every dimension, even the depth of the groove. The new pin turned out to be hollow and crushed rather than shift, had to drill it. More seriously the switches, which should be stuck to the PCB, were adhered to the buttons. Work of art to sort that. Hope the next one is easier.

There is a better way to take out those two pins.I drilled a small hole and then used a flat thin screw driver and push them out.Its better than breaking the pin holder.This way the key remains intact.I cannot post a picture here but you can DM me an i will email you the better workaround. 🙂

Well the punch I use is 1.4mm, maybe that's enough to make it too big. Sometimes if you turn the key over and try and push it from the other side it helps

Hi am going to fix my friends 2007 Jetta wolfsburg. 1 question. Where is the immobilizer chip? Is it on the circuit board? If I get the key cut with the kit and just swap the circuit board it will work?
@TheCarKeyMan
@TheCarKeyMan Жыл бұрын
Hi, no the chip should be a small glass tube, near the key blade. Be careful swapping this as if the glass breaks, the car will not start. I sometimes melt the plastic around the chip to ease it out slowly, using a soldering iron.

@@TheCarKeyMan Thank you. Is there something that could dissolve the glue or make it soft besides heating? I would be afraid of hurting it with heat. This poor girl is being told so much garbage about her ignition switch. Her cylinder is locked up. Which I can fix. They want her to buy a whole column and prob end up with the same problem in short time. Then program the key for 100 bucks. I told her the original is always best because of the doors, trunk ect. So anyway. I am sending her your video to show her it is possible and a lot less expensive. Thank you again. Lol, I am used to hondas doing this. have done a few. Which helps. I have a Seat Leon with exact same key fob. The key is slightly loose but the main problem I have, is that it discharges any battery I put in it within 3-4 days. I've gone through 6 batteries already, so I'm hoping I can use this video to take it apart, clean the fob (it's DIRTY) then put it back together with a new battery.

I bought a new housing for my key but of course the blade doesn't fit. Can I go to a regular locksmith and habe the new blade cut or does a dealership need to do it? I was by VW and they said I need a whole new key and they won't cut the blade that came with the new housing.

@TheCarKeyMan
@TheCarKeyMan 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Karlos, not a silly question, so here goes. Think of it like this. Each key has a chip in that acts like a unique fingerprint. In the car is a library of all the keys that are allowed to start it, like a list of allowed fingerprints. If you mess one key up, the other will still be stored in the library and it will work fine till. Hope that helps

What is the little pin called that you knock out at the end. Mine flew out when I click the key button
@TheCarKeyMan
@TheCarKeyMan Жыл бұрын
Hi, it's just a pin, not sure of the name to be honest. If your pin has fallen out, but the blade is stil in the key, it maybe that you have a hairline crack around the area of the hole. When this happens, the hole widens and the pin falls out

@@TheCarKeyMan Actually after messing with it for a while, the pin in it came out. I could the open it with those pliers. I had a tough time getting the key blade to fit the new mount (which I had to use, the button was a different diameter). But some filing and it did fit. I used the pin from the cracked open old case, as it was slightly larger, and was able to secure the new shell. Unfortunately there seems to be a bit different “click” with the old PCB in the new shell, it’s not as clicky as it was before, but it works, and looks a whole lot better.
