The turbo doesn’t seem to be at its limits? Is it “already” over spinning? It really looks like it wants to make more! I mean, to be fair you were pushing the limits with the last engine, so main caps being stronger solely wouldn’t add horse power (I am aware there’s much more). I could be totally wrong, as this isn’t my car, and my miata is only making 433 to the wheels. Plus you’re miata father, so what you say goes, my liege.

On your 512whp run your wide band gauge was showing 12.2 AFR . IMHO that doesn't leave a lot of room for error being that cylinder to cylinder AFR can spread 10-15% on even well setup cars. Drown that thing in fuel until it coughs then back it off a touch. Just my opinion on giving yourself some margin of safety 🦺. Love your videos keep it up :)

I have a low.... like really low cp engine. Stock was 7.4 to 1, and now it is about 8 to 1. Milled ahead and went with a super thin head gasket. I personally like big boost numbers but also love a super Snappy responsive engine. I'm working with an old Datsun engine 2.8l l28et. I've done a couple of different engines, 9.5 to 1 cp and 8.8 to 1. You really can't tell the difference between the 8.8 and 9.5 cp engines. If I was going to give advice to anybody, I would tell him to go with as low of compression as you can to get to your goal.

Also, did you monitor turbo speed for your record run comparisons? Internet science states your larger displacement may be pushing your exhaust side further for same hp, but your C/R is helping your compressor efficiency. Turbo speed should show you where you are on comp map. May only need a one size increase on exhaust A/R to see sudden hp bump if comp map good. Then you can torch your low comp record with same response. OR. Just enjoy it for a period!

Love this data-driven approach. I even dyno'd my bone stock 2.0L Protege because I wanted to know what each mod afterwards was actually worth. Made a mighty 84HP. Good header and an intake brought it up to 105HP though, and my second header was almost twice as good as the first. 500HP is a little beyond comprehension 😅

I wonder what the force on the main caps is with the low compression vs high compression pistons. It would seem that lower boost and less timing for the same power might mean a safer engine, but since that was the point of failure it's really all about force at that specific part, i figure. No way to really know i guess, but interesting to think about.
@yepnope2195

According to an online boost-to-compression calculator the effective compression ratio of the new engine is 33.71:1 (26.6psi@12:1). As compared to the old setup with 28.41:1 effective compression (31.7psi@9:1). So assuming this calculator isn't whack, you're able to get about 15% more air into each stroke at sea level. Neat. Expressed another way the old engine would need to be running about 40psi@9:1 to get the same amount of air into it. Super neat... or my math is bad and I need to repeat class 😁

I'm sitting with my own volvo 740 and looking at a stroker kit, from 2.3L to 2.65L with stock turbo pistons or slightly over with 96.5mm pistons. I'm heavily leaning toward stock piston size as i want to keep it as rigid as possible and those 30-40cc extra aint worth it really. The stroker kit can be had with forged rods and ARP bolts for about 1000 dollars which seems like a pretty good deal for an almost fully forged engine/crank is cast, but these volvos dont rev much past 5500rpm so it's fine with a camshaft for turbo use) dunno what turbo would be best suited as the stock mitsubishi 13c is runs out of breath at around 180-200hp which would be about 5-7 psi boost with a stroker kit, a 15G would do about 8 PSI and a 19T would be like 11 psi (which would be about 250 hp at the crank. but my goal is pretty modest at about 170-180(which could be done another camshaft but i like the fact that i can dump the clutch at a stand still and the engine just goes with :D )

This is INSANELY cool!! I've wanted to do a high compression E85 boost build for a long time, but with college budget, not happening. I have to ask, how on earth are you pushing 20psi into a 12.5:1 engine and not knocking? I've heard (online, admittedly) that the highest you can go on E85 is about 13:1 NA, and 20psi @ 12.5:1 is about equal to 29:1! Amazing build, instantly subscribed.

Great data on the comparison of 12:1 and 9:1 for these motors. I was most excited for these numbers too so thank you for providing them. Since the dump graphs were pretty spot on as far as when power comes on, what is the benefit? I know you said they take less boost and timing to reach those power figures but does this mean it’s more reliable because of that? Later in the video you said 9:1 would be more reliable?
@noncog1

9:1 more reliable at same boost level 12:1 less stressed for same power level
@TheCarPassionChannel
@TheCarPassionChannel Жыл бұрын
The benefit is mainly being able to make more power out of a given turbo, and the transient response is definitely better on this engine which you can't see in the dyno charts. I'm not sure that either engine is ultra "safe" at 500+, but the turbo is certainly running more efficient on the high comp engine, and producing lower intake temps.
