I practice home taxidermy, more like a hobby when I have time. I want to thank you for putting in perspective on a previous video about being a full-time taxidermist and what it takes, I work a full time and then some job and with a large family my time for taxidermy is short. I really enjoy your videos and find them useful, moreso the ones nobody shows you, like when things aren't always to plan and your creative ways to make the best of a situation.

I'm so thankful I have came across your very informative videos on here. Thank you so much for going into great detail with the dos and don't dos of the trade. I really appreciate all that you do. Thanks for your time making video .i Mount a deer or 2 a year and maybe a moose. I find the eyes to be the most difficult they look ok wet when they dry eye lids go flat and pull away from eye ball tear duck pulls away from form. I have been using super glue around eye lids to eyes balls. Next creature I’m mounting is an elk never mounted one before will save this video as a reference . Thanks

Thanks for making these videos! Would you consider making a video to show us how you get more detail out of a mount? I’m thinking the sort of detail you would expect from an early season big mature Whitetail. I’ve always wondered how you get the cape tight around vessels on the face and neck mussels. Thanks again for making these videos!

I to mount deer for a hobby, I really enjoy and have learned a lot from your video's. Thanks for all the down to earth lessons! I have some deer I mounted of my own years ago and would like to rehydrate and reset the eyes. Have you ever not liked how your eyes turned out and re-done them? Would you consider a future video of performing this? I had a few early on the the front side of the eye drummed from the form where they lost that frontal look.

You probably can as long as they were tanned and not dry preserved
@daven8531
@daven8531 6 ай бұрын
I have some of both, I will attempt the tanned ones first. I was able to completely remove a boraxed cape before and remount on the same form as a test, just to see how it would turn out. Surprisingly it went great! I did have some spare capes just in case though. Also I appreciate your opinion with your experience. Also if you ever find yourself in need of spare capes let me know. They are southern sized deer also, several I harvested in ga that I just decided to euro mount but saved the capes.

Do you need to complete the mount (eyes, nose, lips, hide and sewn up) in one session?
@thecedarridgechronicles
@thecedarridgechronicles 10 ай бұрын
I have not seen it done otherwise. It can probably be done, but if you want to try it, I would suggest stitching first so that you don't lose any size or stretch to the cape drying. I would most the face with water then put a bag over it until the next day, then add your hide paste to the face as you tuck.

will you add epoxy to every single set of eyes you do? I have one thats been drying for a few days and I am not seeing any separation from the skin and the eye. Was just curious if you would still add it if there was no separation. Thanks!
@thecedarridgechronicles
@thecedarridgechronicles 4 ай бұрын
You only have to add it where there is separation, just make sure to wait at least 2 weeks before finishing the head to make sure the skin is completely dried so it doesn’t shrink back after paint
