I’m a former semi-pro musician and my two brothers have been full-time pros, so I’ve been in and out of various music scenes since my youth. It’s great to keep up with Rick Beato, a producer who seems to know every jazz and rock player of any consequence, and with Chris Buck’s “Friday Fretworks.” He isn’t just a guitar geek - he writes his own music for every edition, and he’s breathtakingly good. And for politics, law and international affairs. The Silicon Curtain and Anna from Ukraine. Glenn Kirschner’s “Justice Matters.”

That is why I like The chaps guide, balanced and practical. Not into luxury or impractical, extreme menstyle, which could echoe some egotistical attitude. Which in reality, people around does not care too much to what we wear. What matter is we show respect in the way we dress and not to draw much attention to ourself I also appreciate Brock McGoff, ideal for my age, early 30s

I currently like TGV The Urban Gentleman's channel, he is more into watches these days but when he does a formal or smart casual sartorial video, they are usually more my style as i'm into a similar style of clothing, I own a suit but I don't wear it often usually opting for well fitted items that include dark dress jeans, Rollnecks, chukka boots, stylish coats like Sports Jackets, Burberry Trenchcoats, Harringtons, wool overcoats, stylish travel luggage and of course, the appropriate timepiece it has helped me go from dressing like a teenage boy well into my 30's to now age appropriate and well put together while feeling comfortable in the clothes i'm in. So I get a lot of sartorial ideas from TGV, I love the Gentlemens Gazette also, as I love the clothing education on the formal, but that world is a little out of my comfort zone just yet.

I agree with you on RMRS and the style OG. For a woman's perspective on men's style I recommend Mens Fashioner

I enjoy many of the American KZfaqrs that you highlighted and over time I have found myself watching less of some of the channels that I used to watch on a somewhat regular basis, such as Alpha M for the very same reasons you mention, however, I would recommend these channels style over 40 and I'm not a gentleman hosted by Vladimir Riche then there is the Elegant Oxford shoe channel by a gentleman named Preston, the Parisian Gentleman hosted by Hugo Jacomet the shoe snob hosted by J. Fitzpatrick, Trenton & Heath shoe cobblers, Bedo's leather works!

All your men's style channels are ones I watch, along with Parisian Gentleman, who is probably also dealing more with bespoke than you tend to, but he also does a lot on MTM work that is more affordable. I learn a lot from Hugo, from Gentleman's Gazette's history work, and from RMRS. Thanks for the other video categories you covered as well, which I don't tend to watch as much- some new things to check out!

Gentelman's Gazette and RMRS are great teachers when it comes to menswear history and the quality of certain brands and items. Some more modern style channels that I recently found are: Harry Has - likeable guy, modern aesthetics This Is Antwon - his style is let's say an acquired taste (he's into techwear and that kind of stuff), but he does fashion meta-analysis like no one else on KZfaq (as far as I know). Very insightful stuff Oh and they're both British

I follow mostly other fitness channels who have supported my channel. I have youtube premium which I use mostly for music and my wife does my workouts without interruption from adverts. I do have other interests such as 'style', hence I come on here. I will be developing my channel to cover more my age group but not just about exercise but how to live your best life in your 60s and beyond. So that is a bit lifestyle-ish type topic. "Don't let youtube get a grip of you". Spot on.

I like and admire Sven Raphael Schneider and Hugo Jacomet, theirs were the first channels I saw about fine menswear and etiquette and instinctively felt a great attraction. They really are top-notch. I cannot stand Kirby Allison´s pretentious approach. I believe he is "up himself" and it shows. I never liked snobs, particularly those who like to show-off on YT. I do agree 100% with you regarding Antonio Centeno; his enthusiasm is infectious and genuine. About history, and particularly British military history, you will never get anything better than "The History Chap", another excellent channel is "Redcoat History". They are not only packed with information but their stories are told with passion, great knowledge and wit. As always, is a pleasure to listen to you. All the best.

A lot of the style channels are American. I wonder if that's because we have gone so far down the casual route, that we need more help with style. Being an older gentleman (over 60), I tend to focus on the gentlemen that are older. I don't need style advice focused on kids.

I let out a chuckle within a few minutes of this vid.... If i find one of these style gurus that are shouting and jumping about... off it goes, you noticed them too. I mainly watch shoe restoration/repair fellows. Trenton & Heath, Tring shoe repair, Bido's leatherworks and the Elegant Oxford, we have the Brighton fellow Bespoke Addict doing restoration here in the UK too. I know what your saying about Kirby, but, I will say that some of his videos that show the bespoke processes in the UK are absolutely fascinating and I believe of almost historical importance. David Saxby is worth watching for knowledge of the old tailors... some of whom still work. Also Anton Browne does great videos on second hand proper shoes he buys... his voice is wonderful.

We have similar taste. I was watching bushcraft videos prior to getting into the style channels. Many of the style channels you mentioned I am following. Maybe I am just an American born chap. Thank you for your time and effort in your videos.

Your description of Alpha.M was perfect, I stopped watching him around the same time I started watching you. I have found a lot of the gentlemanly channels on KZfaq, present company excluded, have become... extremely bizarre and pretentious. It's become harder and harder to find easy to watch and enjoy content without being sold something, or told some sort of odd viewpoint.

Yes!!! Critical Drinker IS the ultimate in sarcastic review!! He also pulls zero punches in where things go wrong in entertainment... Might I recommend 'The History Guy' channel as well... He's enlightened me to no end.. especially in obscure and little know facts of historical events.

While I am not British, I have lived and worked in the UK including a stint in a Home Office service. Being Irish I feel this channel has a shared type of heritage i.e the grass in the background - I see that with the hatchet, paddy cap and jacket - I can feel the air, smell the grass etc. Felton is great. One of my guilty pleasures is watching old crimewatches on Redcards channel!

I really agree with you on RMRS, GG and alpha.m . And thank you for directing me to criminolly! That's the kind of channel I've been looking for. I've been watching your videos pretty much since you started and it's great to see how your channel has grown and developed over the years. The fact that you know and like Germany ( and tabac shaving products) just makes you more likeable to me, a half German just recently moved to UK. Sorry it never occured to me to subscribe, but just done that now.

For style related channels I started and remain with GG which has the deepest knowledge in men's wear history (admittedly it was better before sadly) and remain long time viewer of the chaps guide. Chaps guide is unique as it also puts emphasis on self development in other words making a better self. Adding The Elegant Oxford for shoes. Personally I don't like the commanding military tone of RMRS. Might suit American audience well. Sartorial talks and Kirby Alison are exclusivist, only for the rich and snobbish among themselves, from head to toe in a bespoke attire and no less. Left them very quickly to never return. Albeit you show rolex watches which is not for everyone but in an easy way unlike Teddy Baldassaire. In your case you remain down to earth for normal gents with a broad spectrum of topics. Continue Sir Ash your great work.

My first go to channel is _"The Chap's Guide"_ my second channel is RMRS, although Kirby Alison is OK, however this lessons are helpful (some of them), I prefer you ones to the tee! Jolly good show old chap! Keep up the great work that you do - The Chap's Guide and personal stuff!

On the learning side, two channels which might be up your street are Primitive Skills, which demonstrates the very basic survival skills, and Modern History TV as he covers many facets of history alongside jousting, medieval armour, and the like. The latter does not publish frequently as he's very busy as a CEO.

The Chap's Guide is my favorite men's style channel. I really like your extemporaneous manner of speaking, practical styling tips, and life advice. I decided to start wearing a fedora after watching your video. Now I have 8 felt hats and 1 straw hat. 😊 I also wear a sport coat now. All that to say, you changed my life. 😊

I enjoy RMRS and agree that since Alpha M got bought by shark tank he has become an advertising commodity rather than an advice guru . My favourite is Hugo Jacomet at Discussions Satoriales in original French or Satorial Talks for the English speaking viewers . A bible of knowledge and he translates both editions very well so as to keep all his material relevant and very genuine . I used to follow Jeremy Fragrance years ago but got fed up of his push ups in white suits etc . Why do style gurus tell you to keep it simple then do the exact opposite ? Ah yes the gravy train ..

Christian Williams is an author and sailor. He does very few videos but I believe most people who enjoy you would enjoy him as well. Very well spoken.

The BRITISH DAPPER is highly underrated, in particular if you like his slow, meticulous approach and the time he takes to answer all your queries. What I like about the GENTLEMAN'S GAZETTE is their in-depth analysis, their historical accuracy and their humour. And lastly, I've come across VINTAGEBURSCHE who entertains an English channel. It is particularly interesting if you're more into traditional or historical clothing.

Hello Ash, I came across your channel by watching the British Dapper and I have to say that your videos are very interesting and informative. I also enjoy watching The Urban Gentry. He is a British/Italian who curently lives in the US. He initially started as a lifestyle channel, but now he mostly review watches. Although I cannot afford the majority of the watches he reviews, he also tends to combine history and culture in the mix, which makes it a very pleasant (at least for me...) experience. Take care! P.S. I agree with you in regards to Alpha m. 😅

Ash a fantastic video yet again. I will of course take a look at the channels you mention I don't follow. An opinion on Hugo Jacomet of Sartorial Talks would be welcome. To add to the point on the GG and Kirby Alison shops for European based customers postage and import taxes make the goods more expensive than those purchased from Europe. Also when manufactured in Europe - sent to US warehouse - sent to European customer it needs to be considered the environmental impact of the purchase of that's something you actively consider.

Great video with some interesting recommendations. One channel I watch is called '40 over fashion'. Its by an American KZfaqr who seems quite down to earth and respectful. So his videos are usually quite interesting.

Interestingly, I subscribe to a few of the channels you refer to. RMRS, GG and Mark Felton are go-to channels for me, along with Hemmingway Jones, a small American channel to do with pens and journaling. Most others are watch and motorcycle related. However, this is by far my favourite and is the only one which I patronise...

I do agree about alpha m. Perhaps he's less about style and more lifestyle, almost a toxic presence. Kirby is an interesting gentleman and his channel, while generating a lot of money, does spend a lot of money, as you mentioned. He too has a product line, and that was how he started out online. I feel you are right about GG, and even their regular style guides do lean on the eccentric and eclectic side. I cant speak on the quality of their products as i can't make the financial commitment. Antonio's rampant marketing is simply what one can expect from an american embracing capitalism. Great content too, I do agree. I have only seen a few of the british dapper's videos but he seemed a well meaning and knowledgeable gentleman.

Another excellent chap related channel is The Shoe Man. Richard knows his stuff & gives thorough reviews of high-end shoes & boots.

Ash. I am with you on the channels you mentioned. I find myself watching them less these days. Although I do get a little entertainment and knowledge out of them. I do enjoy Chris the British dapper. I am more interested in military history And British in particular I watch Redcoat history and the History Chap and Mark Felton. I also enjoy clay shooting and hunting and watch Field sports Britain and TGS Outdoors and other British channels as you can tell I too am an anglafile 😂. I also have been into poetry and enjoy Malcolm Guite. My favorite channels that I contribute comments to the most are yours, the British dapper and the History Chap. Thanks for sharing. Another great post Ash. Tring Shoe repairs is very entertaining. Dan the cobbler comes over very well and he's very skilled at his job. You also share the same music. You're intro is his shoe gluing theme 'let's get sticky' Drinker is always spot on. High peak autos is a great insight to car flipping - way better presenting than Top Gear or any TV channels. Justin Hawkins rides again - brilliant music/song analysis and deconstruction. Similar to Rick Beato. I find myself watching more KZfaq than TV of late. Chaps Guide is my current favourite - keep up the great content

I didn't make the list! 😭 I have also followed many of the ones you mentioned for many years. I've followed RMRS since his custom suit business was his main gig. Antonio is also a fellow Texan, so he has that going for him. Dry Creek Wrangler is another I also really enjoy. His deep, calm, wisdom is soul-soothing in a world of fast distractions.

The Chaps Guide is my go-to Gentleman's lifestyle channel. I cannot find anything that matches more closely my aspirations, outlook on life, and style choices. On a tangent, I would thoroughly recommend the Joolz Guide channel, which is a guy doing walking tours around all areas of London. He digs up some incredible facts and history on all areas that he visits (including the Floris shop recently!). Also, honourable mentions to The Urban Gentry (watch reviews) and Hemingway Jones (fountain pens and journals).

The same way that there are only so many musical chords there are only so many items of clothing and dress codes (ignoring fast fashion & latest trends). Your channel plus the others you mention have been very helpful to me over the last couple of years as I've tried to improve my health and general style. There is a lot of repetition, conflicting advice (sometimes from the same creator) and confusion out there. We should not forget the entertainment factor here; I could watch/listen all day to someone tell me something they are passionate about, it is good for the soul. If I was given the choice of watching some reality TV show or a man restoring an old pair of leather shoes I think you know which it would be. Keep up the good work Ash!

I have discovered several of the channels that you discuss here. Gentleman's Gazette was probably one of the first, but I don't watch it as much now. I still watch Real Men Real Style, but I sometimes find his presentation off-putting. Another channel I find myself watching lately is Vladimir Riche. He usually talks about styles that are beyond where I see myself going, but he has a very cool presentation and is strangely entertaining to me. Not trying to sound sycophantic, but I very much enjoy watching your videos, Ash. Great presentation; I love the laid-back casual Britishness of it. Always interesting content. I was interested to hear you talking about sailing in the Baltic as part of a military yacht club. I think I know the one. I was in the Canadian Army in the 1980s as a tank crewman and served 4 years stationed in Germany (West Germany at the time). I was once offered an opportunity to "sail to Denmark"... which sounded too good to be true. It turned out that it was a military sailing course run by the British Army through the British Kiel Yacht Club operating in Kiel, Germany. I spent several days learning the ropes (literally) as part of a yacht crew and the final activity was an overnight sail from Kiel to a small fishing port in Denmark. It was an amazing experience, and I enjoyed it very much. John Turcott was my instructor, and I still have my course certificate which states, "Cpl Ewart was surprised at the rigorous course programme. Although not particularly interested in sailing, he worked very hard and was a valued member of the crew. He was never seasick." I'm quite proud of that. At one point during our voyage, John and I were the only ones on the boat who were functioning... everyone else was hanging over the sides barfing. LOL

Another thumbs up for Hugo Jacomet. I also found Brian Sacawa/He Spoke Style helpful for his emphasis on versatility. Keep up the good work!

Hello Sir, Thank you for your insights and recomendations. If i may be bold, i would like to make a recomendation myself. Perun is a channel that i watch every week. This Australian chap makes a weekly powerpoint presentation about army economics and thoughtfull analyzes the war in (primary) Ukraine. It takes about a hour per video but is verry worth my time. It grows my understanding of things. A bushcraft chap that i also prefer is Mr Paul Kirtley. As always thank you for your wonderfull content. Greetings from Belgium.

Love your channel primarily due to the British vibe which I like so much, when it comes to tailoring I definitely watch all the channels that you mentioned but can give special mention to Sartorial talks and ask Okey as I find their advice on men's clothing very relevant to what I learnt over the years. Great video, as usual! I like your style and, unlike some other channels, I can't imagine ever unsubbing or ignoring a video from you. So, I enjoy content from TGV of the Urban Gentry, Stridewise, Carl Murawski has a fantastic channel that goes from work wear and outdoors and I would say skirts the edges of classy wear. One channel I love is Felix Immler's who is the King of Swiss Army Knives and content. I also love Mark Felton's videos! I also subscribe to Ancient Architects, anything history is always interesting to me. I feel that a gentleman, urban or rural, should be well read and informed on many subjects. I am always looking for new channels and encourage new content. I do like channels who's hosts are enthusiastic about their subject and leave the negativity behind. I watch at least 3 of these channels as well as yours obviously as part of my daily routine so excellent choices. I find it interesting how Jeff tends to incorporate street into classic wear such as a hoodie with a sport coat and so on. While most of the time I do prefer a sweater occasionally there's nothing wrong with a hoodie.
