A great video again here! A little something from me I've recently (..."recently"... as in "over the last years"...) got into the habit is replacing all buttons on my suits, even the made-to-measure ones where I've decided on the button colour already because it's virtually guaranteed, independent from the price depressingly enough, to have shiny or otherwise "meh" plastic buttons. I've gone through the effort of "re-buttoning" every suit or blazer or sports jacket I own from plastic to mother of pearl, heavier brass, olive wood, cloth covered.... the choice are there, and even replacing the buttons with better buttons of the same colour and style makes a massive difference. It's just a subtle one, like all the other points Ash and the Modern Dandy have already made, but that's what this is about anyway ;). (..."Three-Button: Generally not worn by gentlemen anymore, [...]"... I like them... I even have super-Edwardian four-button ones... but then I also have a Inverness coat...so...😆😅) Best regards Raoul G. Kunz

As I said elsewhere, I do think three-button is great for vintage dressing! Especially when it comes to Edwardian, '30s, '50s, and maybe even '60s suiting looks, three-button can be an excellent staple. In modern contexts, though, three-button has sort of become out of style, even amongst traditionalists.

@@themoderndandy713 Oh I wasn't questioning your judgement, I'm just, as you mentioned here and have before, a fan of these kinds of vintage things.😉 Don't worry though, I have two button suits, I just don't wear them unless it's indicated or implicitly a necessity 😅. Again, far be it from me to mope about your comment, I'm just moping about the normative power of the factual😉... oh the horror^^✓ Best regards Raoul G. Kunz

Love your channel! I would like to ask for your advice: I’m 40 years old, living in Israel. I am an independent consultant and personal manager in the music business. The advice I’m seeking is divided to two parts: 1. Here we have usually very hot weather (middle east), and I find it difficult to find very nice clothing options. 2. Most of the people here, businessmen, entrepreneurs, CEO’s, consultants etc, never wear suits. It is extremely uncommon to see people in suits unless it is in the courtroom. Lawyers and judges. Given these two facts (weather +local domestic fashion), how can I nevertheless dress well, impressive and what would be your approach to it. Thank you very much in advance, I really appreciate it a lot. Jonathan

Solid advice as usual sir . A subtle trick which always upped my game when attending a function after work(where we always dressed well anyway) was to 'try not to look like you just came from work' which fits in well with what you have been explaining . It works like a charm .

Great topic covered here, well done on hitting that nail. I personally attend a large amount of weddings and while most will wear a suit I wear a tailor made burgundy, paisley embroidered 8 button blazer that comes to the knees (schewani cut), for formal work events I have a tailored very dark grey (peak lapel, single button with jetted pockets) suit and for celebrations I have a tailored grey overcoat with red lining, no outer pockets, red/gold buttons and a stand up collar that make the garment look unique. Changing up buttons can really transform a garment from daily wear to ceremonial if they stand out enough. Paisley shiny ties also step up the outfit as they are far from a daily as they just look too fancy for most styles.

That sounds awesome - I suppose your Muslim? Because I've seen very similar (but not as awesome as your ensembles sounds) on people in my neighbourhood when attending festivities and I've always felt insufficiently "spiffy" whenever I'm invited - *especially* embroidery can look *stunning* in a baroque kind-of-way without looking out of place (as it would look one me, I would feel like an imposter ;) ). Best regards Raoul G. Kunz

@@RaoulKunz1 I am Muslim but the garment is not from my culture. Asian people (who are the originators of the scherwani) have extraordinarily decorative garments for weddings with gold embroidery, sequins and precious/semi precious stones but since I'm not asian I opted for black embroidery over maroon for a more subtle yet fancy garment. It's unique and I get asked about it every time I wear it and best thing is that i got it for relatively cheap. When invited you should go, the asian community have great weddings usually if not slightly over the top. Cool name btw

@@MuhammadAli-qh8tg Ah okay - thanks for the answer! I've been to several weddings so far, German (mostly boring in style ;) ), several Turkish (here's where I saw some of the brocade, not the groom and bride of course) weddings, those are more exorbitant, a Thai wedding and (a bit over the top, though one of the Turkish beat it, but there's a lot more Turks in Germany than Siamese ;) ), most intriguingly, a Mormon wedding... but in England (Crewe Hall in Crewe) and super exorbitant... except that every Latter-Day-Saint, *of course* , was wearing normal, moderate, suits in Navy and the women light blue dresses because Mormons (as far as I know) don't wear black or white... so everything was totally moderate and..erm.. renting a palace for two days... so not exactly ;). That's the wedding I mentioned a while back when I went through the town in Morning Suit wearing an Ascot Grey top hat... and yes, I was *explicitly asked* to wear this by the couple (was the wedding of a very old friend; I was best man), I would *not* have tried to out dress the groom. Thanks btw. for the compliment ^^. Best regards Raoul G. Kunz

And also, if anyone says you look hot because you're wearing a jacket in the summer time. Say, are you coming onto me? Had a comment today saying, ''Oh you look hot'', ''oh you look like your melting'' 🙄. Btw, I wasn't melting... I was wearing a wool jacket my favourite Reiss sage-green suit jacket, charcoal wool trousers and a Gieves Hawkes silk cravat. Maybe you should do a video on dealing with remarks if you have not done so already. I know there's videos on it already, but perhaps you may have a unique spin on it. It can be sort of hard to deal with since it happens when you least expect it.

"Wear your Sunday suit every day." - Professor Archibald MacLeish If you're already doing that, you're probably good to go! I find that wearing personally significant garments helps an occasion feel special. Also, unless your polishing game is military-grade, a professional shoe shiner can likely do a great job for an affordable price, and is found at most airports, big malls, and (so I've heard) London subways. I haven't much else to add, so since Ash mentioned buttoning rules, here's a fuller list: One-button: Leave buttoned unless sitting Two-button: Leave top button buttoned unless sitting, leave bottom button undone at all times Three-Button: Generally not worn by gentlemen anymore outside of vintage, but leave the bottom button unbuttuned, always button the middle unless sitting, and the top is optional Double-Breasted: Every button is more professional and polished, top button only is more relaxed but still dapper, and completely unbuttoned is spezzatura and casual Three-Piece: Either button like normal or leave all buttons undone, but most gentlemen prefer the latter Waistcoats: Leave the bottom button undone unless the waistcoat is double-breasted or formal (black tie, morning dress, or white tie) Overcoats: Anything goes, including completely unbuttoned, aside from just the bottom button

Even though I been living it Te Kuiti since December 2015! What I would love to acquire is the trousers and waistcoat to match! I Googled the jacket and its not cheap!
