This reaction video is to a live performance in 2016, featuring arrangements of I See the Light from Tangled, You'll Be In My Heart from Tarzan and Go the Distance from Hercules. Solos are performed by Kirstin Maldonado (from Pentatonix) and Jeremy Michael Lewis.
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff as she is barely able to contain her excitement at the prospect of getting to hear Disney music and one of the current best A Cappella groups in the world, Voctave.

@@jfulton-ak John, I completely agree. I don't know if I've ever heard a better example of voice control, especially in a soprano. I was going to suggest the same song. Thanks for beating me to the punch!

Especially since she is able to produce those high notes not only as clear as a crystal bell, but also very quietly, in other songs even more quiet than in this one. And THAT is really impressive considering how extreme those notes are and how frequencies work (basically the higher, the louder)
@Matthewrents
@Matthewrents 4 жыл бұрын
2 Fun facts:, Kate (the soprano) leads up to the C# the first note, Voctave follows on the second note.. but then Kate jumps again to the high F# on the third note before they resolve! (Bonus fact, even in this video, you can see Jeremy laughing and shaking his head in disbelief every time Kate shines) Also, Jeremy had to have the breath for longer than the 14 second long phrase at the end, because he didn't breathe when Kirsten got to before the last note! He held for 22 seconds to fill the two breath gaps. Incredible.

If you like Jamey Ray's arrangements but you haven't gone down the Voctave rabbit hole yet, you are really missing out. Voctave is the group that he helped form. He writes the arrangements specifically to take advantage of each of their unique voices. The group is filled with outstanding talents which get highlighted in different songs. You really should go to their youtube page and react to more of their videos. They also have more Disney songs that you will love.

Voctave are vocal excellence, without exception and Kate Lott, the Descant Soprano, is a phenomenon. Both Jeremy and Kirsten are excellent vocalists in their own right, but you can see in both this video and the rehearsal one that they are awestruck by the capabilities of Voctave, both with regards to Jamie's arrangement and the individual and group vocal talent on display, especially when Kate Lott casually hits that F#6 with such ease.

I’ve only just discovered you recently due to the Jinjer “Pisces” video. Ended up watching your reactions to Nightwish and Floor too. There are 2 main reasons I’ve enjoyed your vids. 1. Unlike other reaction videos done by vocal coaches/singers. It feels like they try and do whatever is happening in the video, as a sort of “look at me, I can do it too!” type vibe. Which just annoys me. Whereas you listen to what’s going on, and just explain it and why it’s great. Even though you are an incredible singer and could sing what these people are doing, but you don’t 👍🏻 2. I can tell by watching you, that you just love music and the visible excitement you show in these videos is infectious and endearing.

I loved your explaination of the "t" and "d" sounds as well as the oohs and aahs! As a linguistics nerd and a bit of a vocal nerd I found it really informative and interesting! As many people in the comments probably pointed out, the high soprano's name is Kate Lott.and she is indeed phenomenal! Following this video, a few obligatory suggestions: - Voctave's "Great Movie Medley". Features some more of Kate's high notes, it was a tribute to Jon Williams when he died and it's incredible. Also, it shows some of what the bass section can do, which I am a fan of. - Voctave's "Disney Princess Medley". I especially love Chrystal's (the counteralto) part, but generally - it features of all Voctave's female members singing a solo and absolutly killing it. - "I Have a Dream" by Main Street, a barbershop quartet featuring Voctave's Tony DeRosa. They are awesome, and this is a song based on the song from Tangled. It's great. - "Razzle Dazzle" by Main Street. Another one from the same competition (the 2018 International Barbeshop competition, which they won). - "Notre Dame Medley" by The Ringmasters. A Swedish barbershop quartet who are all incredible. Nothing not to like.

The soprano is Kate Lott and she's fantastic, but each and every member of the group is fantastic. Your reaction was terrific and brought up aspects of the arranging that I never noticed, specifically their use of ooohs and aaahs.. During your reaction you mentioned your love of a cappella and Disney. Well, with Voctave, you hit the mother lode. Check out their "Disney Princess Medley" (which features Kate and all the female vocalists) and "Disney Showstoppers". if you want more Kate, give a listen to Voctave's version of "Mary Did You Know", featuring Mark Lowry, who co-wrote the song. You won't believe Kate's control at the very end of that song. And as an a cappella fan, you owe it to yourself to explore the music of Pentatonix, Home Free, and VoicePlay. I would love to see your reactions to "Hallelujah" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Pentatonix, "How Great Thou Art" and "Man of Constant Sorrow" by Home Free, and "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Mr. Blue Sky", and "Ooogie Boogie's Song" by VoicePlay. In any event, this old Barbershopper is looking forward to many more of your reactions.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet so I'll throw in my two cents...The first soprano, Kate Lott is a coloratura soprano and she did study opera and other genres as well...This group is based out of Orlando, Florida and also about half of them along with Kate sing with Disney's "Voices of Liberty"... They all come from different areas and genres of music and most of them have won many awards in their areas of singing...Great reaction even if it was 2 years ago... Lol...Can't wait till the next one...

This arrangement is so awesome. I love the drawn out dissonance at the end that quickly resolves. So satisfying.

What an awesome reaction. I have viewed this performance close to 100 times and with scores of reactions. Not only did I glean so much more insight into the musical genius of Voctave, but you did so in a way that mixed such joy with your insight. Thank you.

Fantastically informative reaction. I learned so much about the subtleties of a cappella music from your reaction. I’d heard this performance before, but your reaction made it more impressive.

I’ve watched you break this down before but had to watch it - and you - again! You have such excitement and I love watching it! One thing I love is the point at which it ends...all the voices are so in synch, like when an orchestra plays that final note!

I watch a lot of vocal coach reaction videos. You have easily become my favorite. Your energy and love for music is so great. Your knowledge and experience comes through as an obvious, vibrant, passion for something you love. I adore your videos, I found your channel because of your reactions to nightwish. As a long time symphonic metal head I normally only watch vocal reactions to nightwish. I enjoy all your videos, reacting to symphonic metal or not.

Whoever did the mixing on this did fantastic. There is so much going on and yet all the voices are distinct and discernable. Love it and your reaction. You really, really know your stuff topped with joy. It's very enjoyable watching someone so excited.

About two years ago, I started making music-scores for computergames, and when I make a score, I use inspiration from Hans Zimmer, Antonio Vivaldi and Jamey Ray. Hans Zimmer can create a underlaying feel better than anyone else, Vivaldi uses violin better than anyone else, and Jamey Ray can create "whole sounds" better than enyone else. The way Jamey Ray uses harmonizing in his accompaniment is out of this world. Kind of like Jacob Collier does, a brillant musician. And, about this video, very well done! Some of the things you notice is brillant, and to hear your thoughts about the singing-technique is teaching me a lot, as I'm not a singer. Especially the "engine room" workings of the "u" and "a", that was really nice :-) Thank you for a lovely video, you've just got a new fan and subscriber ;-)

I have lost count the number of reactions I have watched on this song. You are my official favorite. Your smile is so genuine - you are very intelligent but I see the little girl coming out in that smile. My daughter works for Disney and she is like you in many ways....still starry when she sees a princess in the cafeteria and she is almost 27 LOL! I don't have a group or choir but I bought the sheet music for this from Jamey's site - it is SO fun to follow each part. brilliant writing as you say! NICE reaction!

Great insights and articulation, especially the heavy focus on construction (like the ooo-to-aaah-to-lyrics for the background vocalists). My favorite reaction videos go well beyond "wow, they are really good" and actually teach something about the writing, construction, or performance techniques. And your joy in the subject matter was icing on the cake! Well done.

If you want to hear that Soprano full on, then I recommend more Voctave, e.g. the Disney Princess Medley - every female singer gets her own Disney song. ❤ I swear her lowest range is higher than I'll ever get 😶
