I don't know this guy that well, but listening to this song, in a live performance, it's clear to me that he was a legend. Too bad he's not so famous worldwide, he deserved it.

To be fair he was quite famous amongst metalheads, in a bunch of European countries, in Japan and in South America specially Brazil. It is a bit like Nightwish, where the band is massive on the metal scene but is not known by "normal" ppl.

Angra was HUGE in any places where power/melodic metal has a strong scene, like in Japan, Germany, etc...and of course in Brazil

@@victorlongon Yes I understand. I'm more of a blues/rock n roll/country/folk guy and a little bit of gospel from the 50's to 70's (some 80's stuff) not to mention classical music. In this case, I'm not really into metal (except Black Sabbath) but I know how to recognize a band when it's good. In this case, for those who are not used to metal, I only know the mainstream, Metallica, Megadeth...from what I noticed in this singer's style, I only know Iron Maiden in the genre.. But he should be known to everyone(like Bruce Dickinson), not just metalheads. That's what I meant in the comment. May he rest in peace and may he be with God.

Como não chorar como um momento unico como esse, André Matos partiu e muitos no Brasil nem sabe quem e ele, infelizmente nunca foi bem valorizado pela mídia Brasileira, vi muitos repórteres en entrevista trata ele e banda, como muleques doidão mesmo o cara ja sendo um maestro firmado. Tenho a esperança de ainda ver o povo brasileiro valorizar artistas incríveis como ele foi e sempre será.

Andre Matos was a brazilian singer, pianist, maestro and composer, he was part of the band Viper when he was a teenager (Viper very successful in Japan in the early 1990s), then Angra and then Shaman. Definitely the best voice in Brazilian metal, he was amazing... unfortnelly he passed away in 2019 due to a heart attack, Andre will be missed forever!

Some facts about André Mattos: - He was a founding member of the band "Angra" with, among other members, Kiko Loureiro (current guitarist for Megadeth); - Took part in an audition to replace Bruce Dickinson in Iron Maiden and finished in 3rd place; - He was a Maestro. - Other (great) bands he played: Viper, Angra and his solo carrer (Andre Mattos)

One of my biggest regrets in life was not seeing him perform live. He came to a city four hours from mine and I couldn't go. Never had the chance again. The man was incredibly creative and mixing Brazilian folk music on Angra and later a more Central American folk on Shaman created something new on a very saturated market, it's a shame he wasn't able to write more. Yeah, Angra continued with a similar style and so did Shaman, but the bands will never feel the same. He was the soul, if you will, it was his creativity and his virtuosity that made his music what it was, unique, fresh and beautiful.

I was fortunate enough to watch him in my city, Campina Grande - PB in 2005 (December if i remember correctly) with Shaman (The band Torture Squad was there too). It was amazing and it was Hugo Mariutti's birthday as well. All the band members messed his hair with cake on stage. It was a one in a life time experience!

I was so close to missing him. He wasn't coming to stage for more than an hour. Apparently he had a terrible flu that day, but he still came out and killed it.

I've watched this performance dozens of times, and it brings tears to my eyes and a knot in my throat EVERY time still. Andre Matos should be deified up there with the absolute best of the best. Not being able to see him live is one of the greatest sorrows of my heart

These lines embody greatly the resolution of André's short and yet meaningful life, as he had a glance into his future when he wrote them to the audience, his lady, who would and will forever celebrate his virtuosity creating countless sparks inside our hearts all over the world, where he will always be... "and thus he's never died." Just like a fairy tale. I'm sure I speak for everyone of his admirers, current and forthcoming, when I say this: Our sincere and truly deepest gratitude for your passion, André. And thank you, Elizabeth, for allowing him some of your precious time to touch your heart and thus undoubtedly carrying-on his shine evermore.

I was able to see him with Shaman when this album was released in my country Paraguay, it was an almost like an opera/theater and metal show, it was beautiful, and then when he released his solo album, 2 masterpieces of the Brazilian metal music, love to our Brazilian brothers, Andre Matos was and will be a Legend.

He was graduated as a conductor, that's why he seems like conducting the audience haha He also said he thought being a pianist would be his career, so he started with classical piano, just like you said you did too :) It was also cute that you mentioned Freddie at a point since his favorite band was Queen. André was such a charismatic guy, he had a huge connection with the audience and was very famous in Japan and Brazil, he also could reach very very high notes, much more than he did in this song! Andre Matos is one of my musical heroes. The music he composed for Angra is incredible. Wrote all of their first album, the lyrics, sang, played piano, arranged everything. Guy was a world-class talent and musical genius.

I'm so sorry to hear he passed. I had no idea. I used to communicate with some of the members of Shaman years ago hoping they would come to the US to tour. They were very cool bunch and and just thrilled to know their music was reaching the US. Incredible band that should have reached world wide acclaim!

É realmente uma grande pena que o Andre tenha falecido num certo "esquecimento" porque foi certamente um dos maiores, senão o maior, vocalista e músico de metal brasileiro. É um orgulho saber que o Andre é um patrimônio brasileiro e eu me sinto muito feliz de ter podido ter a chance de tê-lo visto cantar em vida ainda. Vi duas vezes: uma durante a turnê dele de comemoração do Angels Cry e outra na turnê de reunião do Shaman. Foram épicos

Eu o vi uma vez com o Avantasia em 2008, em show solo na minha cidade em 2009 e de novo com o Shaman e Avantasia em 2019, 6 dias antes de ele falecer. Todos foram momentos incríveis que vou guardar para sempre. André Matos foi certamente um dos maiores cantores do rock mundial.

Besides being a rock star, Andre Matos graduated with a bachelor's degree in Orchestral Conducting and Musical Composition and also studied for seven years lyrical singing with the professor of technique and vocal interpretation Francisco Campos, professor at the University of São Paulo.

Oh boy, I've been crying for the whole second half of the video, but when he started singing the last part, I completely burst into tears when I remebered what he was about to say. And even though I regularly listen to his songs, I had never connected the words and the meaning until that point. I'm really glad you did talk about it too. Andre was my main inspiration in being a singer and I was there at his last live performance. His death was a devastating blow then and it continues being so. Thank you for making this amazing video on such a brilliant song!

André is far way my favorite singer. I’ll always remember the concerts in Brazil I had the pleaser to go. Even in Angra, Shaman or his solo career, he was uncredible and absolutely genius by creating his songs like Fairy Tale and after singing them. He had so much to show yet, but the life is it, it’s good as a kiss, but fast as a thunder, unfortunely. André will never be forgotten! 🇧🇷 🇧🇷 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

Prior to Shaman he was a founding member from a band called Angra. With Angra he achieved a very successful carrer. You should check his version for Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights!

I love this music, great pece of art. The melody, the instruments used, the elements composing the lyric, all of this leads who's listenining to the middle ages, into a kind of epic chivalry romance. And, of course, the interpretation of André is in harmony with the song. He was brillant!

When you say he was conducting from the piano, you are right, he was a classic trained maestro, before he formed his first metal band during his teens he had a passion for the piano that never died. For more of this mixture of Brazilian music metal and classic I recommend you to look into Angra's Holy Land album. Regarding his joy of life, you got that one well too, he loved the piano and his accomplishments, once on an interview he said that would he die on that day he would die satisfied with what he did in life. He was a great musician and a great man, humble, fought for animal rights, treating people well, did spread his love for music and the piano.

Conheci essa música quando criança, através da novela "O Beijo do Vampiro" e era incrível pra mim toda vez que tocava. Com o tempo consegui um DVD com várias bandas, que tinha o clipe dessa música e ela se tornou a minha música preferida no mundo por muitos e muitos anos. E eu não fazia ideia de que era de uma banda BRASILEIRA! Quando descobri eu quase nem acreditei e me senti incrivelmente orgulhoso em saber que essa composição lendária e épica era brasileira.

Eu juro que não lembro como descobri esse vídeo,lembro do Angra na mim adolescência mas já com o Edu,n sei se estava vendo algo do Angra e surgiu esse vídeo,e eu fiquei hipnotizada. Aí tem o momento que ele diz "só vocês",e eu levei um choque,tive que voltar pea ver se tinha entendido direito,e então vi que ele falou em português,eu pensei "um gringo falando tão bem o português assim,tá estranho",e então fui no Google e descobri que ele era brasileiro! He was an incredible singer indeed. His highs are legendary, like on the Angra classic "Carry On" (and as many mentioned, that "Wuthering Heights" cover) but the entire Holy Land album from Angra is a masterpiece with beautiful songs like "Deep Blue" and the epic "Carolina IV".

I am from Brazil, and unfortunately the loss of André Matos was huge for our country. Fairy Tale is a very famous song in Brazil, even among those who don't like the style. It is still used a lot at weddings and has even been the theme song for soap operas on open TV channels. In particular, it is my favorite song by Shaman.

Andre was an exceptional frontman! And that night in particular was a very special one not only for him but for the whole band because of their history with Angra and everything that happened to them around 1999/2000. That performance is already about 20 years old but it never gets really old. Thanks for reacting to that. As a brazilian and an Andre Matos' admirer, I feel flattered :)
