This song and it's placement at that moment early in the movie set the tone for the Denzel's character, the film, and the early 2000s. You couldn't live in North America 2000-2005 without having heard this song, no matter who you were, it was everywhere.

I really like this film because of the raw discourse and concretization of principle and integrity. Alonzo's character though in depicting their rejection, was interesting because he still brought to the discourse the raw knowledge of the war on drugs so to speak, that the kid is not aware fully.
