Excellent tip as usual :) You can however improve on it by adding your commands/macros to the "Device Settings" - "Gcode" and the Start and End Gcode" which is called on job-start and end. That way you can automagically turn on or off the light and fan when each job starts 😀

@@TheClackShack Thanx, maybe not turn off the fan automatically after job-end, as that would leave the enclosure with a lot of smoke - or maybe there is a possibility to add a time delay I wonder 😁

it is actually using (sending) gcode to the controller unit. with Lightburn you can edit gcode startup to include the gcode to turn on the fan and turn off/on the light at the start of all gcode processing. I would imagine you cold add a post code to turn off the fan at the end of your operation - but I would advise against that because the fan is continuing to cool down the laser module after completing the project.

Pro Tip; If you go into your library settings on Lightburn and assign settings for layers (=materials) for your power and speed settings for that particular layer, this will alow you to set layer 2 to be for engraving on coated metals, layer 3 engraving on MDF wood, layer 4 engraving on birch plywood, layer 5 engraving on pine plywood... etc. for your most common materials leaving some open for special project settings. this will speed up your work flow say for jigs engraving tags you would have a layer setting for coated metal tag, and a different layer setting for a wood tag.

It controls the exhaust fan, not the module fan.

Yea, only thing is I run multiple machines. When I only had one, I did this. Settings change with each machine, I choose to set them as I go to avoid using a setting for another machine.

can we use light and fan on-off with athore laser printers? i have creality and i use lightburn with raspberry pi at the printer.

This function is dependent on having the right outputs on the board. Not all machines have the correct ports.

Wow, this could be great to drive air assist and a larger exhaust fan. Where are the connection points on the LM 3 harness? Contacts or voltage outputs?...lots of questions. Will you be following up with an air assist modification? Thanks for the video!

There is a plug connector inside the front of the machine labeled I/O

Just curious, I hear you mention light escaping from around various enclosures. Is that escaping light actually harmful to your eyes? I would not think the light itself would be harmful unless you are looking into the light beam itself.

Highly reflective surfaces like metal and mirror can reflect the beam outward. Wood and other rough surfaces. Reflectivity isn’t a problem. I am not concerned with the laser cutting or harming anyone that far out of focus but eyes can be damaged by too much exposure to really bright light. If I had young children around, I would want to make sure to contain all of the light as a precaution

@@TheClackShack Thanks, I am using Atezrs encloser and it works great, It does not have a bottom but I like the way it opens and closes with just Velcro and magnets.

What if I don't have a Ortur laser and want to use the fan and light. How much voltage do they use?

It comes with a switch that allows you to power it without the LM3. It has a power source and switch for that application
