Moldy hay can be used as a weed barrier between your garden rows.
@cattymajiv
@cattymajiv 2 ай бұрын
@@oceansoul3694 Mold is not a bacteria, and the amount of mold isn't that high. It dries out very fast after being on the ground, and just prevents weeds from growing. It also gives you something to walk on, partially preventing compaction, and keeping your shoes out of the mud, and acts as mulch. Some type of fungi are actually very helpful for plants. The spores that start mold are already everywhere too, so your garden is already covered in them. Hay that's too moldy for horses is usually only a little bit moldy, and only in spots inside the bales, so putting some on the garden is not a bit harmful.

I've seen a horseman rig up his water trough by putting a thin piece of wood covering about 3/4ths of the trough - his was plastic as well, leaving enough room for the horses to drink, securing it down with basic clamps from a hardware store. It also helped to keep leaves, twigs, pollen, etc from dirtying the water.

Grats on 50K!!! I actually found this video fascinating, because while the things you were showing were very normal and mundane for you, it's really unlike anything I've experienced! It doesn't drop below freezing here, so we never get snow or ice - sometimes there's a light dusting of frost on the grass early in the morning, but it always melts when the sun comes up. Winter here is mostly just chilly, wet and muddy. Our seasons are backwards, though, so we're currently at the tail end of summer. We've actually just had a run of three days in a row that all hit 38°C (100°F) - it was hot and humid and pretty unpleasant if you had to go outside. We also don't have squirrels or prairie dogs or gophers or badgers - but we do have wombats, echidnas, and bandicoots, which all like to dig! (And rabbits, which are an invasive species and a real pain.) So any time you wonder whether people would be interest in something that's pretty mundane for you - just remember that it could well be fascinating for people on the other side of the world!

Makes so much sense about the aeration and fertilization. There's a rest area around where I live that used to have gophers or ground squirrels in the adjoining pasture. Used to be nice to watch them. But, alas, they were killed off a few years ago. Now, the area is dead. No cattle or horses were brought in. I was there yesterday. Beautiful day, but not even birds. There's no life there anymore. Sad.

Second to none Skeletor is my all time favorite. My heart aches for him as i am sure Clever Cowgirl your heart aches for Skeletor to due to his medical issues. All of Skeletor's challenges would be a sinch for him had he not had lost bone growth in his hind legs. It is in his blood to crave to work hard and when that craving need is left unmet - we get these daily issues Skeletor expresses in his frustrations. He has no way to be able to vent it all out since that requires getting out there and burning all his energy , strength, and desire to dig into bigger challenges. You are doing a brilliant job with Skeletor but if you ever get to the point where the unthinkable might become the only option for Skeletor's peace of mind you will have my prayers and moral support for Skeletor's peaceful tranquil transition to horsey heaven.

Here on the Front Range of Colorado we have the Striped Ground Squirrels, which are not problematic. Their holes are tiny and they don’t make piles of dirt. On the other hand, we also have Pocket Gophers, which are despised by everyone. These critters throw up large mounds of soil and while their holes are too small for a hoof to go through, many of their tunnels and burrows are close enough to the surface that a horse can sink quite a ways down when stepping on one.

@@TheCleverCowgirlYou could just call them ground squirrels. It's almost the same coming out as "gophers.". You can leave out the Richardson's, I'm sure they don't care whose ground squirrels they are lol.

Also, encourage viewers to share, like, comment. These markers matter too. We have had tons of extremely brilliant squirrels. The deer here do not step in their holes. We have turkeys, bear, mountain lion (I have video on my yt the last time the mountain lion showed up), chipmunk, all manner of mountain birds (this year we have osprey again), elk, coyote, the occasional snake, skunk, rabbit, raccoon, bat and our friends the fox who we see often. We also have bison ranchers nearby. The way to stop your horse from turning on the water is to use aeration. They don’t like stale water (which happens even within a day). So along with the melter, use an aerator. Our cat will only drink from a fountain!
