Because some days I just give up and go thrifting. As such, I have some "new" things to show you all!
Yes it's another thrifting haul, and I had a lot of fun styling these items! I can't wait to wear this coat dress out, I need to go on another field trip and take myself on a museum date or something perhaps :)

You should research J. Peterman, because his style was vintage traveling clothing. You would definitely like his designs. It was a "catalog only" company before the internet came about. Also, Elaine worked for J. Peterman in the 90's sitcom "Seinfeld"
@CathyPack
@CathyPack 4 жыл бұрын
I think Peterman still has a catalogue online. I have a couple of their kaftans, a dress and a man’s shirt that I “needed “. Their catalogue is all vintage inspired and rather expensive or I would have one of everything. Good score!!!

Okay, you have inspired me so much to actualize my dreams of incorporating vintage styles and clothes into my wardrobe. As a fellow queer I often feel as though I can’t present too femme. Your sew with me/tutorials are very informative. They really get me excited about designing and making my own clothing again. And you look so amazing in more masc outfits! Those pants look like they were made for you, and it still reads pretty feminine. Thank you for being such a beautiful light in this world!

Gold Waterlily Agreed! Lots of people gasp when I say that I have clothes in my closet that I’ve owned (and worn) for over twenty years. But whenever a slightly out of the ordinary occasion pops up - say, Halloween, a wedding with a formal dress code, a stage performance where we wear all grey, or all black and white, or all blue, etc - they’re all “I have nothing to wear!!” whereas I just pull something from my closet... I can barely think of an occasion I couldn’t dress for from my closet. There’s an upside to my maximalist ways! 😃

When you held up that red & gold tie, I realized you were also wearing gryffindor makeup (the lips & eyes combo)!! Btw I don't think your wardrobe is extravagant. I mean, if you didn't own much clothing, each item would just wear out & need replacing sooner. On the other hand, each item in your collection will last for years......and unlike fast-fashion, planned obsolescence, most of your beautiful vintage clothes will still be beautiful & wearable for decades, either by you or the next lucky buyer. Thank You for sharing your haul(s)!!!!.

I'm in the UK and we never find such great clothes in our charity shops (equivalent of thrift shops, I think). Occasionally there are vintage fairs but they are a little overpriced. I'm 51 and grew up in the 80s. It's funny to see fashions come round again -I've never been fashionable. Forward thinking vintageistas (a word?), why not make some present day clothes and put them away for future vintage. I once found some fabric in a shop in the "retro" section and thought to myself "that's not retro, I made myself a frock out of that once", then I remembered that was over 35 years ago😨. Love your channel x

@@billiev8705 Hehe, braces go on your teeth here too and the elasticated frilly thing, that brides tend to have, that goes around the top of your leg is a garter belt here. It's almost like they're completely different languages. Thing is with the evolution is that it's evolved differently in both countries so in a way it's bound to get further and further apart. Then in the UK we also have regional variations in vocab. However, with so much American media now more widely viewed in the UK it means that a lot of the younger generations are adopting US vocabulary.

I 100% agree with you, it's better in your closet, rather than landfill. The items are so cheap, but timeless, so wearing it only once or twice a year is still ok, as you can keep it for years, so you do get the wear out of them. Then they can go to another home, unlike modern fast fashion, which start to fall apart after one wearing.

Rena Rowan! Famous designer w. an interesting history. Her escape from Poland during WW2 and subsequent bio is worth checking. (1928-2016) She was married to the late singer Vic Damone. I had some J. Peterman clothing- not cheap- you scored. Love the silk Italianish blouse on you, and the red silk Clio shirt. Have to say, you excel at styling everything you buy. Oh- silk ties I collect them and wear them, as a loose tie or school girl tie, and also as a belt. I can't find any silk scarves at thrift stores where I live. The universe heard my plea for silk scarves! Went to a local consignment shop and found 2 small silk scarves, perfect condition, $4.25 for the pair.

You and I would get along swimmingly- I am literally drowning in FAB AUTHENTIC VINTAGE clothes, handbags, shoes, hats, jewellry, etc. I have at least 6 pair of jodhpurs from the 1940’s with the big hip flares, high waists, metal zippers (you know the drill) that I wear with riding boots! An elderly gentleman was kind enough to show me how to tie a tie at a rummage sale years ago and it’s very easy! I also have 1940’s fitted suit jackets and 1950’s beaded sweaters❗️💋❗️

I love the first outfit on you! It reminds me of Bomb Girls, though it looks more expensive and clean-lined than any of their more masculine looks. It just reminded me of them. I definitely think it works for you. You have a particular energy that doesn't move/is salient in your presentation and I think the way we fit in our skin is largely what we're talking about when we discuss whether an outfit or aesthetic works. It works if you work with it/feel at home in it. Also, I don't think having a lot of clothes is naughty at all 😘 Do what brings you joy. It's not like you're going to throw them out when you're done! I resell or donate 80-90% of the clothes I wear and I think that's what counts.

I'm a maximalist, too. I watch minimalist KZfaqrs knowing I'm never going to reduce my wardrobe that much because I like having choice. I have jackets that I've had for decades and some wide-legged grey silk trousers I drag out for special occasions. I used to wear a tie for school so I know how to tie one, I wish I could show you. As usual everything you bought looked fabulous. And, yes, we call them braces in the UK.

Thank you Pamela! I guess more people on average in the UK know how to tie ties because of school uniforms, I hadn't though of that!

Oh my goodness. I had so many shirts like that oak leaf shirt that I wore with "stretch pants" or even better, stirrup pants. But the print was often cats. And I'd wear a big headband. And patent leather shoes (hopefully with frilly white socks). That was entirely my 90s childhood aesthetic.

I love your hauls, you don’t need to apologize for having a big wardrobe, if the clothes you buy make you happy it’s the only thing that matters, also you’re buying secondhand which is much more sustainable than buying at fast fashion retailers.

Another fun thrift haul - love that you describe the item, and then show us how you'll style the piece with you sassy posing. Your narration is always on-point, Bianca. Suggestion for those ties: if you don't want to wear them as traditional neckties, you could open them up and use the bias-cut fabric as a waistband or to trim a blazer. Although they could also look fun worn as a a belt or worn traditionally as necktie with pencil skirt, waistcoat and collared blouse. Looking forward to the next thrift-haul/how-you-styled-it!

Thank you Heather! I stopped into the Beyond Retro when I visited Brighton back in my study abroad days, and while I did find a dress-- it was probably 30 pounds I think? So not a true bargain like thrifting is here!

Petites in bottoms primarily means short waisted & shorter inseam. J. Peterman is a catalog celebrating a vintage/nostalgia vibe. You should check them out, I suspect you would have fun browsing & reading the descriptions. Not that you need to do as I say, but since I also adore Liberty Prints & thrifting I feel like we enjoy similar things.

Loving those Autumn coloured tops, that kooky oak polo-neck is cute as a button & the silk one is just divine; Yes, polo-necks were popular with both sexes right across the mid-20th century, (particularly the 1960s). I was surprised to learn that they were popular as menswear in 1920s for a while too.
