Jason Momoa arrived in to Auckland Airport on the 15th September and was greeted with a pōwhiri by kapa haka group 'Ahina i te Kaupapa' from Rāhui Pōkeka (Huntly).
Word on the street is that Jason is here in Aotearoa scouting locations for his upcoming Apple TV, Hawaiian historic show, Chief of War.

"our beautiful Māori people" Oh yes. How wonderful the maori people are. Let us bless them. Let is hold them up high and show the world how great the are. News headline from the Rotorua Daily Post newspaper: "Child, 2, dies after Rotorua driveway accident, family member steals from doctor trying to save child's life" As hospital staff tried to save the life of a 2-year-old boy run over in a Rotorua driveway, a family member swiped a doctor's two phones and a bank card and went on a spending spree. The child died a short time later but Melissa Herewini (A MAORI) had already taken the bank card to four stores in Rotorua and bought alcohol, food, petrol, phone credit and cigarettes.

Every time I see a demonstration like this, an act of pure cultural heritage gold, I'm always, ALWAYS, humbled to tears, and the demonstration isn't even for me!! These people are keeping their stories alive, and it's an HONOR to watch them, even on KZfaq. I also thought it was BRILLIANT of Jacinda Ardern to have worn the Kākahu she wore to the Queen's funeral. Just putting it out there.

A pōwhiri (called a pōhiri in eastern dialects, and pronounced [ˈpɔːʔwiɾi] in the Taranaki-Whanganui area) is a Māori welcoming ceremony involving speeches, cultural performance (i.e. The Haka), singing and finally the hongi. The traditional Māori greeting, the hongi (Māori pronunciation: [ˈhɔŋi]) is performed by two people pressing their noses together; some include, at the same time, the touching of foreheads. The greeting is used at traditional meetings among Māori people, and at major ceremonies, such as a pōwhiri. It may be followed by a handshake.

I love maori culture, they preserved traditional architecture 'marae', clothing, art, craving and tradition, same with Hawaiian, Samoan, Tongan and Fijian, Bure and Fale architecture, the temple 'polyneisan marae' or 'heiau' similar to Indonesian and Malaysia temple 'step pyramidal temple' like 'Candi kethek', Candi Cetho', Candi sukuh, Borobodur in Indonesia and Candi Batu Pahat in Malayisa,. i also learn about others austronesian group in Indonesia and Malaysia, Javanese architecture 'rumah Joglo', Minangkabau 'rumah gadang', Malays 'Balai Adat Melayu' and many more, Balai/Bahay/Bale/Bure/Fale/Hale have same roof for 'house, hall and building'.

What a welcome, I am sure he is very honored. I always cry when I hear/see these tribal displays. It has something that speaks to our souls. I don't think its a race thing it speaks to the heart of who were were when our peoples were also still tribal. I am Irish and we have some songs left but not much of my tribal history remains. The tribal part is sadly lost to us now but the instinct remains. I am grateful that we are still blessed with tribal peoples and have the opportunity to hear this soulsong.

Of all things you could think of? it's his hat on his head and his hands in his pockets. He's a mortal, not a God. Don't you think he might be hungry, tired and in need of a hot shower after a 15 hour flight. Although he is humble and appreciative of such a heartfelt greeting, he isn't the type to stand on ceremony. Being a free spirit is part of what makes him unique and so well loved.
