This performance was done in a room backstage at a concert venue for a young man's wish fulfillment through Make-A-Wish foundation. That is a foundation that grants wishes for seriously ill children and teenagers. That young man's wish was Pentatonix. Pentatonix has granted a lot of wishes for young people over the years. Seeing them like this, it’s so evident that they listen so well to one another. No microphones, no in-ears, no production … just talent and experience. I can tell this isn’t you, but I get a kick out of new listeners who can’t believe that five people can sound so full and lush and beautiful without a boatload of production tricks. Not raw like this, but if you are looking for some amazing live vocal acrobatics, I recommend their cover of ‘Gold’ by Kiiara. It is perfection in my opinion. There are definitely some PTX momma bears around getting defensive if they think cubs have been dissed. While I totally respect the passion, they don’t always hear what the reactor is trying to share. Loved your reaction to this - Thank you!!

French military marching band used Pentatonix Daft Punk arrangement for their performance on Bastille day several years ago, with Daft Punk being French that's a great compliment to Pentatonix. you can find video of that performance on YT

Have you reacted to Scott and Mitch's side project called Superfruit? They put out an album called Future Friends that has all original songs, and almost all of them have videos. Scott has also released his first official solo called Mars. It is gorgeous, and there are three versions: the video, a choir version, and acoustic version. They're all a little different and all great. Mitch and Kevin and Kirstie all have some of their own music out there. Mitch's is under the name Messer, and Kevin's is under KO or Kevin Olusola, I believe.

Apparently the Daft Punk video was shot in one of their own closets. They had a budget of $400 to make it.

Cool that you found this clip, it really shows off their skills! Don't bother too much about the naysayers, everybody uses production of one type or another. People sing into microphones, people use headsets, yadda yadda, it's all manipulated in one way or another, yet it's all good too. Sometimes it's a creative choice to use production, sometimes a quality issue. If someone's using autotune, sure comment on it, you're here to observe, does at add something to the performance or not? But it doesn't make a good singer bad anymore than it makes a bad singer good.

Honestly, this is one of their few songs that I am not as big a fan of the live version, only because I miss one of my favorite bits of production I've ever heard, where Kirstin singing "Around the World" behind "Television" pans from left to right, making it feel like it's actually going around your head. But still utterly fabulous.

I am sorry that some supposed fans of ptx acted nasty to you because that is not what pentaholics do. we've picked up some bad ones it seems the last few years. you looked like a proud parent of the 'kids' which is how a lot of us feel about them. also i'd like to say if you had seen the sing off performances you'd have seen their buggles performance and seen them skip in that one. Daft Punk is one of their standards. This was several years ago, and they continue to perform it regularly on their concert tours. The only downside to this recording is you can’t hear Kevin and Avi all that well. Much better live on stage - lot’s of good videos it there, but the best recent one is the Hollywood Bowl 2022. They have a concert at the Hollywood Bowl and also never perform anything in a video production that they cannot reproduce live in stage (kina gutsy as so much can go wrong live but they still upgrade every cover they do (also a lot of their original stuff is just fantastic).
