Contact paper like this is the best material for stenciling. I’ve now switched to exclusively stenciling all of my signs because of this video. Thank you!

THANK YOU! I just found your channel about a month ago. And I love all of your projects you have inspired me so much. I just got my new cameo about a week ago, and I've been struggling to get things right. I have made some progress thanks to you but this video answers even more questions. I have been having trouble transferring stencils to the wood with some work I got it. I tried glad press and seal that worked pretty well. Not too sticky but sticky enough to hold those small pieces. Just yesterday I got 10 7 1/2 x 7 1/2 blocks of wood cut I plan to be busy today thanks to you. Thanks for all your inspiration and great videos keep it up

another tip... draw a box around you design the size of your piece of wood and set cut lines, the cameo will do the work for you and much easier getting it centered on the wood that way.

peeling while wet can give you cleaner edges. If you wait for it to dry sometimes the paint sticks to the tape and you can cause some tears or rough edges.

thank you so much for this tutorial! this video answered alot of my questions i had,had. I still do have a couple questions for you though... 1.) When making your stencils on your siloette cameo gen3 , will it allow you to make the same stencil on the same paper numerous times? for example you did one deer head and printed... will it allow you to make 2.3.4.5.6.7,etc all at once and print( depending on the size of your paper and stencil) all on the same page? 2.) when using chalk paint, what is the difference between regular chalk paint and the chalk paint ink you used for the deer head? is the chalk paint ink specifically made for stencilling purposes? Again thank you so much and I look forward to part two of this video! keep the videos coming, im new to this and on a new journey and trying to learn all i can to better my skills to make beautiful and unique pieces! Happy DIY-ING! :)

great tip but i assume with designs that have more details you have to use some sort of transfer tape correct ? i used oracal 813 stencil vinyl last night on my new scan n cut and it was just wreck i used scan n cut grid transfer tape and the oracal vinyl would not transfer to that. then when i finally tried to transfer it over to my stain surface the stencil vinyl would not stay down on the stain surface or come off the transfer tape. it was very frustrating ? any tips ?
@TheDailyDIYer
@TheDailyDIYer 6 жыл бұрын
I have been using 813 lately too and I love it! I use clear "Duck" brand contact paper (from Walmart) with that stencil film and I've never had a problem with it transferring over. Make sure your stained surface is well cured before transferring too, the oil in the stain makes it hard to get a good seal if it's not cured all the way. I hope that helps! Keep trying!

You can! I usually seal it with a clear matte varnish if I have something going outside. I use Waverly brand paint from walmart

I’m unable to find part 2 which was referred to in this video. Can someone point me to it please? Thanks. 😊

Strange where KZfaq takes you sometimes. Pretty cool video I wasn’t looking for. Since I’m here I may as well point something out that really bothered me. Your stencil job was great, it turned out very nice so.... what happened to your finger nail paint job? Kinda shotty if you ask me haha. Anywho great video 👍🏻

Hi Shannon, thanks for the great video and info. I have a question that I'm hoping you might be able to answer. I have recently started doing wood grain tumblers. I have been using vinyl as my stencil and about half the time it pulls off the alcohol ink with it when I remove it. Do you know or have heard if the contact paper would work better for me? I would actually use the deer head silhouette over top of a lighter color of ink and then brush on a darker color ink on top of the deer head. Wait for it to dry then peel it off revealing the lighter color underneath. I'm hoping using your ideas with the contact paper will eliminate the ink being removed when I take off the stencil. What are your thoughts or ideas. I would be willing to send you a picture of what I am talking about if it would help. Thanks in advance for any assistance you might have.

I say give it a try! It's not quite as "sticky" so it may work better for when it comes time to pull it off. It's just tacky enough to give you a clean line in most cases too. Hope you find a solution, sounds like a very cool project!
