My dad grew up in the Pittsburgh area and I shared this vlog with him. He wants me to tell you that as a kid, he saw Clemente play in person and Clemente was THE BEST player of all time. He said he was an amazing defensive player with an arm you couldn't believe, and he had no strike zone. My dad said he just wasn't in a large market. Clemente died a hero. He chose to personally help the people of Nicaragua after an earthquake, and died in a plane crash en route. My dad says he loved him.

Those incline railways are called funiculars. I just think that is a pretty cool word! Also, that huge geyser is 3 Rivers Fountain. I bet it’s awesome to sit around it during a warm day.

I spent 6 months on business in Pittsburgh, in 1975, and lived at the Gateway Towers, at that time the 3 Rivers Stadium was the place.. and Liberty Ave was full of Theaters/ or showhouses, that were for adults only.. Our temporary Office was on Liberty Ave..Boy, what a nostalgic look at Pittsburgh Downtown.. Thanks

I love Pittsburgh! It's such a beautiful city. Being from Northern California I really appreciate the history and the brick buildings and older architecture. I will never forget coming from the airport and driving through the tunnel to come out to the view of the rivers and the city....it literally took my breath away. Would love to visit again someday.

Pittsburgh has the best downtown "reveal" in America. If you are coming from the airport, you can't even see a hint of the skyline and then you enter a tunnel on a hillside. You exit the long tunnel and WHAM you come out on a bridge high over the river with the entire skyline right in your face. If you are not expecting it, it's both shocking and awesome.

Andy Warhol's mom, Julia Warhola, was a patient at Whiteman Manor Nursing Home in Pittsburgh PA in the late 60's early 70s and I was a nursing assistant there at the time. Andy's brother, Joseph, took care of her there. I believe Andy paid for her stay. I remember Julia trying to get me to hire Andy to wash my windows. She was pretty old at the time. Sweet little lady.

I used to be a big Pirate fan. I had a dachshund dog and his name was Willie Stargell, the great 1st baseman for the Pirates 1962-1982. He played 21 seasons with the Pirates. The Pirates and the Steelers both won championships in 1979. In December 1979 Terry Bradshaw. & Willie Stargell was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Just a few facts.

Despite the fact that I'm a Pirates fan, I say without bias that PNC Park is the best ballpark in baseball. You can't beat that skyline view. I used to go there for 3-4 games at a time and I would get seats in different areas each time. Only one I didn't like was left field bleachers, but that was partially due to the fact that it was a day game and I was in direct sunlight the whole time. I actually moved to seats in the shade elsewhere instead about 3-4 innings into the game.

No way! Yankee Stadium is the cathedral of baseball and is far and away the best park in baseball.
@johndreker1613
@johndreker1613 20 күн бұрын
@@MichaelRei99 Maybe the old stadium could compete, but even a lot of long-time Yankees fans don't agree with that. Fenway and Wrigley would be the cathedrals, with Dodgers Stadium being a distant third, but none of those are elite stadiums, they are iconic. The Giants park, whatever the fourth name of it is now, is up there with PNC Park. Camden Yards isn't far behind because it has the old and new feel to it. I don't like the Mets or Yankees, but they are local teams for me. I'd go Citi Field all day every day over Yankee Stadium if we are just picking based on the ballpark. The Ebbetts Field look and the new feel to it work. Yankee Stadium just doesn't have the mystique of the original. It just feels like a new stadium in the same rundown area.

Pittsburgh has 2 remaining inclines,the Mon and the Duquesne-they originally took the steel workers from their homes on the hills down to the steel mills on the riverfront!Also,the Robert Berks statue of Mr.Rogers is his famous style!- he was the most famous sculptor in America at the time! He made the Einstein statue and JFK statues in DC as well as many others! You are correct about the Bally gym (which has been closed for years now) being a former movie theater. It opened as the Alvin Theatre in 1891, then became the Gateway Theater in 1960. It closed in 1980 and became a health club. The last movie they showed as a theater? “Friday the 13th”. And the Byham Theater is formerly the Fulton, where “Night of the Living Dead” had its world premiere.

Interesting side note on the Clemente Bridge you crossed. Before one game a few years ago, an umpire for that day’s game was crossing it to the stadium when he came across a woman who was attempting to jump in suicide attempt. He stopped her and convinced her to not jump. I wish I could remember his name but he still umps today and players still thank him for his lifesaving act that day.

Kennedy that resides at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and many other well known statues including the huge bust of Albert Einstein at the Einstein Memorial in D.C. Sadly he passed on in 2011, a few years after the Fred Rogers Memorial dedication! What an artistic genius that man was
