Strange tie in that I was told by my grandparents on both sides, on my dad’s side my great grandfather worked for the sheriff Dept in Indiana and actually helped searched for John Dillinger back in the day and on my mom’s side my great uncle worked as a mechanic in Chicago and worked on Al Capone’s car

The shopping mall the Blues Brothers were driving through is in Harvey. I think it still may be standing but has been abandoned since just before the movie was shot. The flop house that Carrie Fischer blew up was downtown on Van Buren between Dearborn and La Salle. The tollway oasis where she blew up the phone booth is in Thornton near the monumentally huge rock quarry. The motel where Twiggy was was waiting is on Roosevelt Road, near West Chicago. The drawbridge that the Brothers jumped across is on 95th Street at the Calumet River. The orphanage, I think, is somewhere near 18th and Canal Streets. Some scenes were also shot in Milwaukee.

He signed my menu, Doug stay Kool Chris Farley, my sister's says"Christina, You sure are Purdy. Love, Tommy Boy.". After the Second City troop finished there act. Chris returned for the improve act. He jumped from a ladder easily six feet above the wooden stage and kicked his leg over his head. God bless him, awesome and athletic cat. Love you all. D.J. Freer

Wilco has their "loft" in that building and has recorded a number of their records there, including YHF. Also, the building was used as the home of Bob Newhart in the original 1970's "Bob Newhart Show". And now you know...

Those towers were also the inspiration for the buildings in the Hanna-Barbera cartoon "The Jetsons". There was also a movie in the 1970's where they drove a car off the car park into the river. (I'd tell you the name if I remembered)

My dad was 14 when Dillinger was shot. He said some people actually dipped handkerchiefs in the blood as a souvenir. My dad took me to the Biograph to see a revival of KING KONG around 1971 (I was 13). After the movie, he took me down that alley to show me the telephone poles. At the time, at least one of them had several curved heavy metal plates bolted to it. My dad said they were put there to deter other souvenir hunters from prying out the bullets from the agents' guns. At 2:52 in your video, look to the right-hand side of the screen , which shows the second telephone pole, further down the alley. It is partially obscured by another structure almost attached to it (go to 2:26 to see what I mean). Anyway, at 2:52, ignore the grey thing that is NOT the telephone pole and look at the brown pole right behind it and notice the metal plates attached to it. Also, at 3:50, take a look at the part of the first telephone pole just over your right shoulder. I seem to recall that there used to be plates over that lighter section of that pole, too, but, hey it was 49 years ago when dad took me down that alley, so I wouldn't testify under oath. I have lived in Chicago all my life, but, in this video, you still showed me a few things I never knew. I love watching your stuff.

It's fitting to pronounce "theater" that way while in Chicago since that is also how the famous son of the 2nd City, Vince Vauhgn pronounces it in "Old School" when he says that his store "Speaker City" sells "home theater equipment", and that is a completely random observation.

Dillinger was struck four times, with two bullets grazing him and one causing a superficial wound to the right side. The fatal bullet entered through the back of his neck, severed the spinal cord, passed into his brain and exited just under the right eye, severing two sets of veins and arteries. An ambulance was summoned, although it was soon apparent Dillinger had died from the gunshot wounds; he was officially pronounced dead at Alexian Brothers Hospital According to investigators, Dillinger died without saying a word.

You should go down to Sheds Aquarium... that entire area at one time was the world's fair grounds, only a few remnants still exist... additionally the terminal for the airport out there is still there, but the airport run way was illegally bulldozed by Mayor Dayley back 20 years ago or so... I believe there are even a few relics from the Columbian Exposition a mile or so south, which was where Tesla's AC current provided by Westinghouse, lit the entire fair up... the first time ever. I think a few of the buildings from the Columbian Exposition are still there, so hard to imagine what use to be around them. Super cool history. Man, so much in Chicago.

There's something about a "famous place" being close to home that seems to breed a form of complacency; almost indifference. I'm still amazed that I lived in San Jose for nearly 30 years before I ever went to tour the Winchester mansion, even though I used to ride past it on my bicycle at least once a week as a kid.

Those 2 identical buildings with the condo's at the top and parking garages on the bottom are the Marina Tower's. People from the area call them the "corn cob" buildings. My husband's company owns an apartment on the 57th floor.

The wall from the St. Valentine's day massacre was auctioned off in 1967 and sold to a Canadian named George Patey. He displayed it in several different places before installing it in the men's bathroom of a night club that he owned. In 1997 he set up a web site and sold the bricks off one by one. That pizza place used to have some of the best pizza in Chicago. It might still have, I haven't been there for many years. I always loved the architecture of Chicago. Time for another visit maybe.

I work in the Leo Burnett building where you walked by a few times, Wayne's World did a few scenes there if you stop by again. Great to see you in my home town.

I made two trips across country as a kid in a station wagon like that, only it was dark blue. Sat in the back with a pile of comic books when things got boring. Sgt. Rock and his Howling Commandos, The Haunted Tank, etc.
