This is a video to show you how to make easy abstract texture using acrylic paint and cling wrap. This technique can be used on both paper and canvas. Use this texture to create beautiful abstract paintings or as accents in your more realistic paintings.
Materials in the video:
Canvas coated with gesso or use thick watercolor paper (no need to gesso paper)
Acrylic colors:
Yellow ochre, Burnt umber, Transparent Yellow iron oxide, Nickel Azo Gold, Indigo blue, Ultramarine blue.
Cling Wrap
Spray bottle with water
Paper towels
Various brushes

A small correction: Acrylic paints dry darker, not lighter as you stated.

This looks great! I love using cling wrap but don't often remember to use it. Currently, I'm working on a large canvas on an easel - too large for me to reposition on the floor & then lift back onto the easel - so I'm going to try to do this on a vertical surface. It may make a huge mess but it's all about experimenting. Thank you so much for your videos!

This is super beautiful enjoyed your process loved how you use water to make the colour give a transparent look abstract art is just amazing I wish I could paint like you! I also paint abstract painting but not like you yours is just at different level enjoyed watching fully I learned new technique saw that when you dab the paper towel creates new texture! I use this technique a lot now coz I love it sooo much! It can be subtle using soft, light shades or it can be high contrast using dark and light colours and tones. Areas can be softened or pushed back using opaques, white or gesso. You can also do multiple layers, allowing each layer to dry before applying next one. The unique patterns are really inspiring and get my creative juices flowing when I'm stuck for ideas. It's also very addictive, in a good way!

I have done this before & really love it. I will sometimes put freezer paper down (has shiny waterproof side) over the canvas after putting down the plastic wrap. I then put a large book over it to really put the plastic wrap into the paint. I let it dry this way (usually overnight) with great results.

Hi Marie Louise!! As always this is so fun and beautiful!! The nickel azo gold has been on my wishlist a long time, it's such a beautiful color! I do this with my watercolors and love it, especially when I'm making a huge amount of thank you cards (a while back when I could do that) I do this and it was a fun easy way to get fun different textures on each card. Also fun with alcohol inks for sure!!! But don't think I've done it with acrylics, such a good idea :) Hope you're doing well!! Thanks again for more beauty to look at, helps me a ton right now!!🥰❤

I just love your work. I have a question. If I buy a ready to use canvas that is suitable for acrylic is it still best to put a layer of gesso on the canvas. Thank you for all you videos. They are really good

It’s very beautiful! What color was the High flow? I just saw one,was the indigo High flow or a Golden flow acrylic. I am sorry for asking too many questions but I do hope that you answer me. I am so happy to have found you!

The indigo was by a brand called Schminke - Akademie Acrylcolor (it’s their student line) I use many different brands of color and like to test out new ones. This brand is quite fluid in consistency. Thanks for watching and happy painting 🎨
