FYI for U.S. viewers: It looks like brass bushings are a thing in the UK/EU electrical code. But in the U.S. the bushings are all steel or plastic. I cannot find any U.S. source for brass bushings. If anyone else can find one, please respond to this comment. U.S. viewers can find 2 inch brass slip nuts for plumbing, but they won't be round.McMaster-Carr has some for around $5US each.

Why not get the plastic ones and spray paint bronze? Lightweight? check!

Maybe the etymology of Steampunk comes a lot from Cyberpunk, which used sunglasses a lot as a motif , esp Mirrorshades anthology nod to it as a form. I reckon the 'goggle' popularity for Steampunk mimics the streetwise anonymity of the cyber sprawls, the seething mass of slum tech and the harsh urban survival themes.
@thedarkpower
@thedarkpower 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's a good bet - steampunk definitely comes from cyberpunk. I reckon you're right.

Would it be cheaper to buy a pair for 30 us dollars or to make one of these?
@thedarkpower
@thedarkpower 6 жыл бұрын
Although you do have to buy things like leather and packets of buckles etc in larger amounts than you need, so the initial outlay would be more, the unit cost per set of goggles is cheaper than $30 I'd say. To be honest though most of the online ones are fairly crappy quality. I've found most steampunks want to spend more than that and get something that's better quality.
@3d_alliance
@3d_alliance 6 жыл бұрын
The Dark Power well might as well spend the extra money, I'm already planning on spending over a $1000 usd on my steampunk cosplay.
@thedarkpower
@thedarkpower 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah exactly - if you want decent quality you gotta spend the money. Thing is, in the UK (or at least the events I go to), steampunk isn't cosplay - everyone makes their own clothes and gadgets tend to be made out of genuine materials, so there's a degree of authenticity to it. I rarely see stuff made out of foam or worbla (although there's some here and there), if you see what I mean. It's all real fabric, real leather, real metal etc.
@3d_alliance
@3d_alliance 6 жыл бұрын
The Dark Power I was planning on going realistic as possible with real leather real metal. It's just that comic Con is the only event I know of in my area.

Do you have a link for the brass bush on eBay? I can't seem to find one. I am located in the US. Thanks.
@thedarkpower
@thedarkpower 6 жыл бұрын
Hiya. This is the only one I could see and that's ebay UK (also the listing doesn't say how many there are - £7 for one is mad!) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50MM-FEMALE-BRASS-BUSHES/253390387381 You can usually get them from hardware stores though, for example here (although again that's UK I'm afraid) www.discount-electrical.co.uk/product.php/388623712/brass-female---ring---bush-2-inch/b211fd0accc2be680f95274dcb274128 So I'd say check some hardware stores - I think US stores tend to have a greater range of stuff in them than in the UK. I'm not sure if they're called something different in the US too?
