Maybe it was just the sticker or maybe the letters stood for something privy to these kids. The sweet continuation of this knit of street kids was that many years later my friend reconnected with a girl who was also one of the STP kids. Super Tested Petroleum. What I always knew as a kid in the 1960’s. It was always a contest with the boys in my classroom. To see who could collect the most STP stickers from the gas stations. Once I really scored. The STP route salesman stopped at the gas station across from my school. I managed to zip over there on my bike. I caught him by the office door. I politely asked if he had a couple of stickers for my collection. He went to his car and broke out a brand new, still in the wrapper pack of 10 STP stickers! I loved the smell of that brand new vinyl.

I had a big STP sticker on the back of my wind breaker in San Diego when I was a kid. We would go to gas stations and ask for stickers and the guys would give us some.

On photos from the '70ies quite a few guitars had STP stickers. For example. Looks real good on large bodied guitars like the Explorer etc.

I grew up in South Africa in the '70s and '80s seeing the STP stickers all over the show. For me, STP was racing cars.

@@shanejones578 Never left, used to live in Joburg until almost 2 years ago, now living in Edenvale. It can get hectic here at times, but if you keep your eyes open and your wits about you, it's cool. The downside is that just about every friend I had HAS left SA...

Those stickers were everywhere when I was a kid. I had no idea what it stood for, what product it was advertising, but I like em and had them all over my room, I don’t even remember where they came from.

According to Andy Granatelli's autobiography they were running Chrysler 300 Hemi's on Daytona beach trying to set land speed records. The engines were coming apart because they couldn't gear them any higher and were seeing a lot of tire slippage on the sand. They either found the formulation for STP or developed it...but they used it to fortify the oil which allowed the engines to stay together better.

Scientifically treated Petroleum. It still says that on some new quarts of oil I believe. I have a t shirt that says it too.

I worked at a company in Dallas called Eaton car repair owned by Andy Granatelli. At a company dinner he disclosed to me the STP was invented by German scientist to get their bombers back to base after we shot the hell out of their engines. It worked!

Whenever my parents would stop at a gas station in the late 60's, I would go in and ask if they had any STP stickers. I had quite a collection.

That's what we used when the engine started blowing blue smoke out the tailpipe, which meant it was going to need a ring job/ overhaul. It's good stuff, I used to use it as a engine assembly Lube, which works great on the initial startup and break-in
