Matt Cameron wrote this one (lyrics and music), and Stone is playing his guitar through a drum machine with only the gates programmed in it. He can't hit a sustain, the drum machine is running constantly. This is from 2003's Riot Act, which was the first studio album to feature Boom on keys. This song was originally called Undone, and Eddie liked the name "undone" so he asked Matt if he could use it for a song he was writing and change the name of this one, and Matt agreed.

You Are is one of my favorite PJ songs, for its sheer inventiveness. One day they thought, "Huh, what if we plugged a friggin' guitar into this dang ol' drum machine?" and they DID, and that's what Stone's playing into the whole song. That's the entire intro and similar passages. I remember back in 2003, I saw them in Irvine, CA, my backyard, practically, at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, and I still remember the light show they put on, even better than in the video, when they played You Are. Seriously, in the clear, warm summer night air it was AMAZING.

Uhhhhhh.....I'm not really back....remember I film 6 weeks in advance. This was filmed and uploaded back at the end of July. I'm working on getting back, believe me I'm trying.

Matt Cameron hooked up his drum to a guitar machine or something. And when he hit his drum it would make that riff effect that you're talking about with the start and stopping. I'm saying this wrong I know. That's for the album version. Live version Stone is replicating the sound I believe

Nice experiment from pearl jam, this is one of the stand out track when the album came out. Its very different from the those they have create before. I believe either stone or Mike said the guitar riff makes him crazy with all the sound setting and tempo.

There is another video you reacted to where Matt I believe does lead vocals. I think its the one where they play with Ace Frehley. Also I think this was the first song Matt wrote for the band.

Always loved this song, album version sounds better/cleaner but you still get the gist.But it's not too bad live.

The sludgy Soundgarden sound that McCready is doing in this song is my favorite part. You can instantly tell it's written by Cameron.

You should try to review Japandroids The House that Heaven Built and The Night of Wine and Roses killer bad I think it's right up your alley with those songs
