I'm gonna be honest, bosses like Sakon Shima and Yukimura made me start Nioh all over and run Spear. And it's really fun to use as well on top of it! It's got so many flourishing, stylish combos that it's insane.

Fun Fact: Hideyori is the only boss who can parry you. And when he does his parry, you best back allllllll the way up cuz his parry window is about 45 years long.

18:43 Stuck for hours? I STUCK FOR 2 YEARS! Luckily after finishing Nioh 2 last week, I immediately fight him again and it took me around half an hour. And I finally finish the whole Nioh DLC today

Boss number 1 holes in the ground. RIP

I love Nioh, honestly. It's such a good game that brings a great flavor and depth to what we'd consider the souls like formula. But god, those DLCs.. the levels? Awesome. The atmosphere? Amazing. The story? Loved it. The bosses? ..the bosses? I could only find it within myself to enjoy three of the DLC bosses: Date Shigezane, Toyotomi Hideyori, and the Nine-Tailed Fox. All the others found me fighting off physical pain as I tried desperately to power through them and adhere to not using Living Weapon my first go of bosses. Date Masamune, Maria, Sarutobi Sasuke, Sanada Yukimura.. probably the most miserable experiences I had with Nioh. Sanada and Maria especially. To me, they embodied the worst of boss balance the game had to offer. Massive health, insane damage, incredible speed, hyper armor, projectile attacks often enough, and worst of all non-stop Living Weapon usage that leaves them outside of LW state for maybe 10% of the fight total. Isn't the point of Living Weapon to be a kind of limit break that gives you great power for a short time? Every other boss in the main game did it right, what the hell happened here? This absurd combination forces you into the tactics of either debuffing them to hell, waiting around for them to just about run out of stamina in the LW state so you can try and go for a risky knockdown to deal actual damage, or just headshot them with something to take them out of LW state and go for a grapple. What else are you gonna do, try to fight them straight-up and get shredded when you inevitably mess up one dodge by a tenth of a second? And it's even worse for Maria: at least the others go into LW and drain stamina as a tradeoff. But she doesn't *technically* use Living Weapon, so she has no such weaknesses with virtually all the benefits, with the only thing in your favor being her lightly smaller healthbar than usual. All that made a good bit of the DLCs I was looking forward to such a slog, which was pretty unfortunate, since I adored the rest.

It's crazy how different your experience in this game when using different builds. I used an axe and got one or two hits in before backing off, and my armor was based around increasing my ki and toughness so that I could block often. As a result, my ranking of the difficulties was very different from yours. The sheer amount of different and viable ways to play this game never ceases to impress me - I really like Nioh for it.

Watched this after finally beating Hino-enma after like 2 hours to make myself feel better about taking so long. Glad she's so high on the list.

Two words for your #1 boss: sticky pots.

The irony is that some the easier bosses on part 1 are in fact some of the ones I had the hardest time with and vice versa. Whilst this may be due to our different play styles, as you clearly have a better grasp of debuffs, I also think it has due in part to how some of them are faced later on in the game, whilst I'm best versed with earlier bosses due to my more frequent playings of both their levels and the Twilight Missions

1. Not gonna lie, Nue was incredibly easy when you're playing patiently. I almost always hit it's head when it spits lightning and hit it's belly to break it's stamina, thus breaking it in the middle of it's attacks until it doubles down on the sky lightning. 2. Oh Nine Tails lady is *ungodly* in her side mission. You DON'T get a helper and if I remember she gets him beside her. (I broke a controller against that BS :D) 3. Maria... was honestly not hard for me. The thing is when you explain it, I don't know *HOW* I did. I played extremely offensively and won in I think 3 tries? Again I'm not sure how since I just went in Leroy Jenkins style. (Also this was during the time when I stuck only to the Odachi and high stance) 4. 0/10 list, not a single Tengu on here Edit: 5. Also I know they are easy to deal with on their own, I'm referring to the god damn team ups they have with other enemies like Flying bolt or *god forbid Nue*

Date Masamune was my absolute favorite character & boss in Nioh 1. Such a challenging & fast paced aggressive fight. I was very surprised when I beat all the DLCs but Date was still the top dog in terms of difficulty lol

Funnily enough, a lot of these bosses were actually on the easier side for me -- though I really wasn't afraid of using Sloth and other debuffs. The difference builds and playstyles make is quite interesting. Also, a fun fact : if you let Nue hit the bell on the left side of the arena with a lightning attack, it stuns the everliving SHIT out of the thunderpussy. Just deletes its health.

The only way I'll see the DLC bosses is through your video. I loved the main game but can't stand the DLC. Everyone's opinion is valid and that's fine. But when I am getting 1-2 shot by literally everything when I beat the main game with no problem, I am no longer having fun, and don't wanna go through NG+ just to enjoy the DLC. Cheers!

Thank you for taking the time to revisit Nioh. I know it was not your favorite experience initially and it doesn’t hold a candle to the Souls experience that most people went in looking for. Nioh was advertised as “Samurai Souls” erroneously. It is essentially a 3rd person action RPG Diablo set in Japan. After I treated the game more like playing a clunky Ninja Gaiden, the mechanics got much easier. The boss designs are centered around different weapon strategies as in the Ninja Gaiden series. And Team Ninja has much more experience making that kind of game centered around katana combat rather than most of their other weapons. You may have had a very different experience playing katana, spear, and hammer/ax rather than the quick weapons like the kusarigama. Either way, Nioh certainly is more designed for people wanting to experience the Diablo loot grind and pressing buttons to make the numbers go up rather than tight and excellent enemy design. Nevertheless, I thoroughly respect your perspective on the game and it’s bosses and I appreciate you revisiting one of my favorite games of the last decade.

Wow, this video reminded me many good moments, but also a lot of bad ones while I was playing it. I considered dropping the game with umi bozu until I found an op strat to defeat it, but the hardest and most unfair boss was hino emma without a doubt (didn’t play dlcs). Good video man

I'd say for me it would have to be Maria. Probably both on Way of the Samurai as well as Way of the Nioh. Her sheer speed, power and combo'ed attacks utterly destroyed me so many times. Fantastic vid!

I'm glad you added the bit about Serpent strike+Foot Sweep+Finishing Blow, because seeing you use a kusa and all the human bosses on this list was a little confusing. Also, hardest boss drops the best gear. Infinite shuriken makes living weapon bosses much easier because even though the damage is lower it drains their ki at a normal rate. Extended I-frames makes it more like Bloodborne and Truth from the 7-piece is a huge damage boost. If Red Demon = Glass Canon, the Dragon Ninja = Glass Nuclear Bomb.

What you explained at some point about the level cap was exactly my problem with the DLCs and why I stopped around the half of the 2nd DLC. The level of each mission suddenly went extremely high even double my own level where I could barely hurt standard enemies. I found it so stupid and no fun where I just didn't want to bother anymore.

Great list as always! More Nioh content please its my current obsession! Edit:Speaking on the importance of the numbers over skill. It hit me like a truck when i got to the 3 kellys at level 80. Finished dlc at 125 it was painful.

I played the hell out of this game when it came out and I really enjoyed the experience. The dlc turned everything up to 11 when you got to way of the wise/nioh even with the 750 max level and level 310 gear bosses like Maria will shred you in a flash with a single mistake. But pulling the wins out at that difficulty is beyond satisfying.

Great video/ranking. While I found Ogress a lot easier (high stance spear destroys her health pretty quickly), some of the bosses were right where I would rank them. I played through with a spear and magic build, so fighting spear wielding bosses was a bit of a pain due to having the same reach. Can't wait for the next video.

Great video ! Before I watched this video I was wondering where you would put Maria since just like you she gave me the most difficulty and i'm glad you put some respect on her name by placing her at the number two spot. Personally with me I never played the last dlc so I never got to fight those last bosses because the level gap intimated me too much and I didn't feel like grinding like 40 levels to play so I stopped pretty much after Maria.

13:49 and this is why random weapons dont work for balance, they always end up with this absurdly high number that is hard to balance. this is why i still defend static equipment numbers(with upgrades), deliver a much better experience.

I agree with you about the leveling in Nioh not being fun. Nioh at its best has the potential to be better and more fun than Fromsoft games, in my opinion, but the leveling really ruins that. The moments where you're outmatched, and outnumbered but your skill and strategy allows you to overcome any obstacle is what I love about combat games. But i hate it when you're doing a mission that's really tough and challenging in Nioh; and when you finally overcome it the next mission is 30 to 50 levels higher than the last. I don't know about you but for me I never get that euphoric sense of accomplishment when I beat a boss in Nioh because I'm either under leveled and the boss is bs or at the recommended level and I destroy the boss.

The key to making a lot of these bosses a whole hell of alot easier is not getting greedy.

DeMod have you never thought about playing Monster Hunter World? Basically, it 's a game with many bosses and the goal is to kill all the bosses. I think it will be great have a ranking video about the monsters in MHW and Iceborne.

Hino enma forced me to quit for almost a year. The same thing happened with Father Gascoigne for me too. But once I got over Gascoigne and Hino enma, I really enjoyed both games, and the satisfying feeling of beating them was unmatched

Maria was the boss that made me realise the thing you pointed out about the DLC level requirements. After an hour of getting murdered, I went back and ran through a decent chunk of NG and started to properly tune my weapons and armour. When I came back, I killed her on my second try.

Jin hayabusa is a pain flying swallow attack with a lot of very fast hits and huge endurance.

8:00 Nue's "roar backward and lightning" attack range is not "short radius around its body", but your current position. Such perception is the result of standing around it. If you're far from it, the lighting will still hit you if you stand still.

Everyone talking about how easy the bosses are and I’m here struggling on the third boss

I actually have a funny story. Earlier today, I beat Hundred Eyes and unlocked the 3 DLC regions. However, I have yet to complete them, since I haven't tried. I originally started Nioh around late 2017-early 2018, and I got my ass completely whooped by EVERYTHING. Even Onryoki was mopping the floor with my blood! Now, after 5-6 years, I've returned, and I speedran the game INCREDIBLY underleveled (I beat The Demon King Revealed at around level 85) and whooped Yamata-no-Orochi my second try. The first try, I made it to the last phase with no stuff except for Salt, and so I was screwed. But I came back with only 3 elixirs and knocked it around! Then I beat Hundred Eyes in less than 30 seconds since my Kusarigama was INSANELY ridiculous. Well..I may have been using Lifeseal, Sloth and Weakness Talismans along with Power Pills, Maxed Kunai, Storm Kunai and Shuriken, along with sneaking by most enemies with Suppa and Catwalking Scrolls, and the only boss that slightly pissed me off was Saika Magoichi (damn arena with flames), so I jokingly called myself a pussycat. But, I now have the DLCs unlocked, and during all those times ago, I remember me not being able to beat Jin. But I did know what he dropped. Now, I've returned, ready to kick his ass. Buuuut, I have to beat the DLCs first. I remember when Date Masamune made me chuck my controller through my closet wall, and Yukimura made me shut off my PS4 and kick my headphones at the wall! And Jin..let's just say a lot of stuff broke during that time. A. LOT. But yeah rlly great vid! The only problem I have was with Maria. Yukimura was insane. But it's your gameplay, so I won't judge :D Have a great day even tho this is like 1-2 yrs old!

As someone who is finally finished with my way of the nioh playthrough of the game prior too the sequel coming out my top 3 is a bit different. My top 3 are as follows, 3. Mitsunari(that wind debuff sucks) 2. Sanada(that wind living weapon phase is so hard to I frame through) 1. Jin hayabusa(the combo of speed and attack power is so rough to deal with). My difficulties may have been compounded by my refusal to have less than a agility or use any weapon combo other than triple sword but that was my experience with the top end atleast.

I didnt mind the Yuki-onna fight when it was just her, when its her and Nobunaga, I spent like 8 hours fighting them two finally getting lucky enough to kill him and make it a solo fight with her

Onmyo Magic is another large factor. I used a melee only build on my Nioh file and approaching the fights on the level curve, many of them were well balanced and not melt or be melted, so I’m not sure that your admittedly unique and unoptimized approach is a good impression to leave on thousands of viewers, but it’s your channel and I know you gave the gear and level disclaimer, but I think there were a lot of factors you didn’t bring up.

I love how the attacks and movement in Nioh are like Ninja Gaiden 3:RE but more polished. I stopped playing Nioh 1 before the latest DLCs were released, but seeing Maria that high up on the list doesn't surprise me. She uses the same fencing skills as Regent of the Mask.

You know what would be lovely from Jin Hayabusa? An Izuna Drop

It worked wonders on some bosses because of high stance damage and kusarigama high stance combo having little to no gaps between hits, letting you land the whole thing without a fear of a counterattack in between if the enemy can be staggered, but made things a lot harder on others. Ogress is a complete joke if you don't try to run around her. Okatsu is quite easy to beat if you approach her carefully. Using your spear properly would have turned Hino-Emna into a non-threat. On the other hand, the damage you got from magic let you not have to really fight a boss multiple times - Ishida Mitsunari, Date Shigezane, Yuki-Onna and Sanada Yukimura are much more dangerous when you don't melt them in moments. I wonder what you would think of the bosses after fighting them as a medium-tanky no magic/no ninjitsu build.

foe Nue a good trick is to hit the sideo f his face when he charges his laser beam... it will usually ki break him... leaving him open for a great wombo, as long as you don't over commit you can get nice damage without being thrashed by the roar

Anyone else ever abused the chaos/confusion debuff? When you get two elemental damaged stacked on an enemy they pretty much become a punching bag that can't retaliate at all. This honestly made the game really easy and broke the game, so I only really used it on tough bosses. Hard to avoid using it tho since I was onmyo build. Glad they changed on Nioh 2 and made it less broken. At least it feels less broken cause enemies don't get staggered.

Unless I'm forgetting someone, I can completely agree with and see your placement of Hino and Nue and 1 and 2 hardest main game bosses. Yuki still takes it for me, but Nue has probably killed me more than any other boss excluding her. And Hino is horrifying even when I can melt her health when I'm WAAAAYYYY overleveled. If Hino Emna had more health 👀👀......other than the Dragon Ninja himself, hardest boss no question

20:16 no, it wouldn't. I was playing dlc on way of the strong, properly equipped and leveled through new game+, with body nearing max. Nine tails and onmoraki went on first try, but Date and Maria deal so much damage, that armor and health doesn't matter. I honestly find it a glaring flaw - dark souls games rarely one-shots you, unless you take glass cannnon build like you. But in NioH, especially in dlc, damage taken is just insane - requires to wear equivalent of full havel set to survive 2 hits. I love NioH combat, but in many cases boss fights simply required to charge in hoping you will kill a boss, before he manages to strike you twice.

Jin is incredibly difficult around wotw but wotn is almost impossible. But the drops are worth it and the set is crazy powerful

Your complaint about the difficulty is identical to mine: I beat the main game fine, despite a bit underleveled, then the DLC first mission was simply IMPOSSIBLE. I'm playing through Way of the Strong right now to catch up in levels, and I am having fun, but I resent having to replay content just to get to the new content.

Nue was my first road block - had to stop playing because it was makeing me angry so came back to iy about a week later and eventually beat it after 2 hours of trying

So here's how I beat Hino Enma, First make sure you have salt, A Charm to resist paralysis and your living weapon at the ready. If you're starting at the third spawn point be sure to kill all enemy's on the way to the arena besides the ones near the cyclops. Now that you have living weapon ready enter the boss arena. Battle instructions: Salt, use the salt, salt destroys her ki, three uses and she's down, be sure to dodge the attacks before using it. After she's down beat the absolute hell out of her until she stands up. Once she has stood up activate living weapons and just go ham. If she's not dead after that then just use the salt again to get her down.

I agree with you about the difficulty spikes in the game. I finished the main game today. Spear/light armor build with no magic or ninjutsu at all, I didn’t want to trivialize any bosses with magic because I had heard it was busted. Went to the DLC after finishing and it feels like even the basic enemies are total sponges. I feel like the only reason I’m not being one shot by everything is because I have over 3k health since spear scales with body. I really loved the game but I don’t feel like having to to NG+ just to do the DLC. It’s a shame because the bosses look really fun
