Mid-Century modern design, originating in the 1940s/50s, prioritised simplicity and innovation, a radical departure from the Victorian homes prior. These iconic homes often featured flat roofs, expansive windows, open plans, natural materials, and a connection to the garden, basically what we strive for today. The impact and timelessness of Mid-Century design principles are evident.

"Mid Century was born, believe it or not, in the 1940s and 50s..." When else would it have been born? Mid. Century. It's in the name!

Some interesting steps in between the ornate Victorian to sleek mid-century, with the art deco streamlining followed by wartime clinker brick and dark interiors, and the opening out to the world of the post-war 50s, with "sun rooms" and tv and industrialised materials ... there was such a contrast between the homes of my grandparents, one pair in the clinker brick house built in wartime and the other built in the yellow brick of 1953. I now rent a cement block unit with wood-lined ceilings, built in 1975 as a "work for the dole" project, and clearly modeled on the California 1950s, and am so loving where all those steps have taken us architecturally. Thanks for the interesting video.

Fantastic! This video is brilliant. Learnt so much. So interesting, not least to someone who already appreciates mid-century design and buildings. Less is indeed, more. [Not sure about the 'grooving' concept, but we will go with it. The swinging 60s? H'mmm?] Open plan, us of space and so forth. Equally the gardens becoming a 'room'. Let us hope that be it Australia, UK, USA and Europe let us all hope many mid-century properties are saved and updated. Thank you, Anthony. More of these informative videos.

I feel like if I said, 'the open floor plan allowed more space for swinging'... uhh, people may get the wrong idea! The garden room is a great way to put it. Thanks for always watching, Keith!
