Gosh, Mitch, this one takes me BACK. I am gonna go on for a minute or two, my apologies to those who dont like long posts. My dad had a 1969 Mustang Grande, very much like this one. The "Grande" package was "meant" to be a "luxury version" of the Mustang, but, at least in 69, was the version people said "hell, no, I want the Mach one!" to. My dad's was actually bought used, he got it from a young man who had just come home from Vietnam, and "thought" he wanted a car, (until he had one!). The car was with the vynil roof, just like that one. My dad's car had a 390, which was a HECK of a lot of motor for that Mustang, and it sure gave the car the ability to get up and go. The car started out as my dad's pride and joy, and I recall some guy in a Camaro wanting to race my dad, but, dad wouldn't, cuz my sister and I were in the car. (speaking of which, that carpet? I recall that carpet VIVIDLY. Mitch, that was so long ago, I was able to kneel down in the back, ON that carpet between the front and rear seats. (I know, it IS a small space. I can also tell you there were two bolts on that tunnel holding the drivetrain in place, and they would warm up significantly. That Mustang may have had the leather added to the doors and dash, I don't know. I also did not see the clock (broken) on the glove box. As I said, that was my dad's pride and joy, and then, it became "the work car", and then it became the only car, and then, it became the broken down car in the garage. When I turned 16, I was given the car. My dad told me the only caveat was, no racing if I could get it running. I never could. Like that car, the steel used back then was pretty crappy, your man is going to be in for a huge challenge to get it back in good order. One my car, the frame cracked, and was rotted so badly, it was not worth fixing. We were going to have it towed away, for twenty five bucks, as scrap, until my dad told the guy that there was a 390 in it. He gave us 500 bucks (in 1984). I have always thought I wanted to get another Grande, and restore it, but, it's just not worth it. Truth be told, I don't miss the car, it just reminds me of my dad. He passed away in 1986.

You might be surprised how easy frame repairs are on these. A friend had a 6 cylinder Mustang that was a rot box. He found a pristine but accident damaged 68 Falcon with a 289. He swapped the subframes between the two cars in his driveway in under a week. Personally I would have fixed the Falcon.

Hi, I am a Brit in the UK, I am 67 years old but many years ago I owned a few Mustangs. a '66, a '65 Fastback and a 70 Mach 1 which was my favourite,. its was first bought in Florida by a Colonel at the Kennedy space centre. '65 and 66 were great but the 69 somehow lost the nice lines IMO anyway. Then in 70 they got it back then lost it in '71 with the bread van shape.

Woulda been cool to have hits from 1969 playing, notwithstanding the copyright issues. My mom had a black 1971 Mustang Mach 1, which also sat in a barn, and was covered in dust, bird droppings, and raccoon footprints. She managed to get it to a shop to see if it was salvageable, alas, the cost of repair was too much. Great to see this restoration project, nice work.

Use of a drill brush and interior cleaner worked wonders. The 300 seemed to just be a big ashtray and dog hair. I bought this little car shop vac by ArmorAll and it’s amazing. This made me quite sad. 35 years ago I was 20-years-old and had a '69 Mustang coupe--just like this one--that I had wanted to restore. But it sat too long at my mother's house and she told me it had to go and so, having no other choices and a complication with the title, I was forced to sell it as a junker for $100. I think about that car often and this video hit that disappointment all of those years ago and all of the ongoing disappointment since. I'm loving these videos, though. Remarkable transformations.

Always get your car running before you invest in cleaning it (or give it a quick wash yourself). Finishing comes after your'e done with the mechanical. Also, if the paint is failing, there's really no concern if you take any off with the pressure washer. In fact, it's probably better to remove all loose paint now, so the owner can primer it and keep it from rusting out while waiting for the bodywork and final paint job.

That bird poop looks like some seagulls ate laxatives and tuna and then decided to take shelter on the same barn this pony used to be trapped at. Great job taking that out!! It would be awesome if we ever get any wax or sealant that can last for 2 or 3 months, but has a strong bird poop repellent to avoid paint and vinyl damage from it. Not even ceramic or graphene coats are that repellent and protective against bird poop.

@@mikemeyerphotoproyou betcha. Top of front quarters and the hood had way too much bondo from the previous owner. You’ll notice in the video the 14” round circle on the hood of missing paint. That flew off in the wind in transport to Mitch 😂

That Mustang will need a lot of work to get it back to showroom quality (if that’s what the owner is going for). There is rust in a lot of the little places. However, I’ve seen much worse. It’s not a bad starting point tbh! They’re beautiful cars.

Have you ever done a full how to video of your process for a detail? My truck is nearing 7 years old now and was thinking of trying. Of course I could just follow one of your vids but just wondering. Love the process my man, fun to watch!

Hey Mitch! Just want to tell you that we will like the shots that you have no matter what method you use. You don’t need to do the car a different way just for footage. Do it how ever you think it will work best and clean best.

Great job!! When I was a teen these cars were the stuff dreams were made of and it took me right back to the wonder and awe. Hey, I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who’d love to see this car again when she’s fully restored, if only a couple shots at the end of another video.

Boy, does this one bring back some memories! Accel wires and "super coil." Black [hard to find now] Keystones. Padded Grant steering wheel. My '69 was a 351 powered convertible. The carpet is nylon loop. Pretty indestructible, though fading from sun is common. Lots of good times in that car... BTW, a towel or tarp over the drain will keep you from dropping stuff into the pit.

I once had a used powder-blue, ‘68 Mustang, ragtop. It was a real cream puff and I loved it. There’s nothing like a clean “classic” car. When cars were mechanical, not computers you drive. Warms the cockles of my heart. 💕😎

Sitting here, watching you work on an old classic, shaking my head at all the mouse crud you removed from the inside. Especially the fur nest. Loved what the carpet looked like after you finished shampooing the carpet. Looked really good. What a beautiful result. I really hope he enjoys driving the girl once she is finished. Well done.

The owner from THIS detail actually has a good reason as to why this car got this nasty, unlike other owners on past details, who seem like they're just dirty people who don't take pride in the cars they own. I'm impressed with this one Mitch. You did a great job.

Great ride & good job. Note for self: If some day I buy a vintage 🚗 & I can't work on it immediately, I'll disassemble it, clean everything & then store it in a climate controlled, critters free container. Just too much damage (& loss of value) with barn storage.
