Today we're doing a Pittsburgh Food Tour, and trying many popular Pittsburgh foods and restaurants for the first time! Pittsburgh still has that gritty, industrial past, however, as foodies can attest, it’s also cultivated quite the culinary scene. One might argue Pittsburgh stacks up against spots in more well-known travel destinations.

Pittsburgh’s foods tend to be the gut-busting, comfort-cuisine variety. They’ve stood the test of time, and are still beloved by locals and visitors alike. Reflective of the city’s immigrant population - past and present - no trip to Pittsburgh is complete without trying at least a few of these Steel City staples. And so we ventured out to try a few ourselves.

Pittsburghs food scene is a-lot more diverse than burgers, fries, and your typical items you can get at quick service type restaurants. The Japanese food is awesome, Nigerian, Thai, Indian, Italian, Polish, German. So many choices and will take a long time to go through them all. Also, Pittsburgh has a-lot of fine dinging options with some of the best buildings for restaurants. One of my favorite fine dining is called the grand concourse (you can get lunch and other items here as well). It was built from an old 1900’s grand train station. I put Pittsburghs food scene on par if not better than Phillys, thats for sure.

I totally agree. There's some very fine dining establishments here with some amazing views of the city based in skyscraper buildings. All of the ethnicity of restaurants isn't on par, as African cuisine here is basically non-existent but every other ethnicities you mentioned have establishments, especially the Asian eateries.

Most Pittsburghers say Primantis is "okay" because they been there like a 100 times. It is probably one the best "signature" food that is synonymous with a city, and I tried them all as I travelled a lot. Skip the steak and get any other sandwich and stick to the original in the strip and most out of towners rave about it.

Something really cool about Penn Brewery is that there are lagering caves still there that were dug into the side of Troy Hill in the 1860s. It's how they cooled the beer before refrigeration. The caves are a constant 55 degrees.

@@TheDetourDuo Not sure you can go in them as of yet. They just recently opened them back up a few years ago after many decades of them being sealed off and got the first section of the cave cleaned up but the rest of it past that wasn't structurally sound enough for the general public as of a couple years ago. I know they wanted to give tours of it but I'm sure covid slowed any plans down.

Oh man, pierogis are the best part of Pittsburgh. S and D’S In the strip district is my favorite. One place I went to even had a pierogie gyro, haha. Pamela’s is a tourist trap! It’s where all the college parents go with their kids(me included years ago). Dorstop in dormont is the best imo.

@@TheDetourDuo Yea Dorstop is in Dormont PA, you can take the T (light rail) there. I also recommend Oakland (where Pitt and CMU are), as well as shadyside and Squirrel Hill, which border Oakland. Top tier travel vids. Thanks for the showcase! Perogis are tasty but I love how you went out of your comfort zone and winged it! Worth the rain check! If you like empanadas, meat pies, gyoza, or ravioli, you’d like perogi. I feel like for breakfast foods, it’s easier to rate for vibe than taste haha (edit, that mimosa flight looked fun!)

Thanks for the description we definitely like all those things. Now I'm really wishing we'd found some perogies. That's also a great point about breakfast food. Really not a lot you can mess up, and it's pretty hard to "wow" with breakfast. The vibe at Pam's definitely checked out.

Born & bred Pittsburgher and trust me, I've had Primanti's sandwiches since the 90's and there's only a few worth mentioning. Their best seller is absolute horrid. Processed, frozen beef patty is all it is. Get the Angus sandwich instead. Their colossal fish is one of my favorites. If you do decide to go back there, you do know that you can have your sandwich the way you want so NEVER order a sandwich with it's signature topping on it. I never worked here or never was affiliated with them but just a satisfied customer. Again, get ANY of their sandwiches made to YOUR liking.❤️🍽️❤️

Hey- let’s review the foods of pittsburgh! Most iconic food? Let’s skip it. Oh wait- It turns out pierogies are on the menu at the church brew works? Let’s just not mention that and hope no one notices it. Oh? The sandwiches that are nationally known from this city? We’ll skip that too because….. someone else said it’s over rated. Thanks for giving me someone else’s opinion and not yours. Remind me not to waste anymore time on your biased videos.

Interesting. What makes you say that? Keep in mind we're tourist an can't just leave the city to go places

That’s an odd thing to say. What about us seems “bougie”? Considering we quite enjoyed our time, I’d say it did appeal to us lol

Why does the girl always say..."I feel like..." She does not feel, she thinks. Feeling is a response to a sensation like hot or cold. Confusing emotion with thought is the sign of a weak mind.

Well, I feel like you may be confusing your lack of emotional intelligence with intellectual superiority. But hey, that's just a thought.
