How to Paint a Realistic Watercolor Ivy Leaf (Botanical Illustration)

This tutorial will teach you in real time how to paint a realistic ivy leaf without jargon and in easy to follow stages.
The lesson is suitable for all levels of ability and will give you an insight into painting illustration style botanical pieces. The project was launched as part of the PaintersOnline Virtual Christmas fair. Indeed, the ivy leaf would make a lovely addition to a personalised Christmas card. Simply mount it on a greeting card or insert it within an aperture card. Alternatively it would look great all year round framed and on your wall.

Thank you so much for this video, I had an ivy leaf I wanted to paint but I didn't know where to begin ( I am trying to learn botanical ) It didn't come out as nearly as beautiful as yours but it is not as bad for a start

I love your paintings! They look so lifelike and you make your process of painting them look manageable for a beginner to watercolor like me :D Sadly, I tried to paint some of your designs on some Christmas Cards I've been making and they turned out... Not the best. I'll definitely be practicing more though. Thank you for sharing your videos and being an inspiring figure!

Julia you are more than welcome. You know yourself that with a little bit of practice you will get better and better, but I would still be proud of what I produce if I was you. This is because we are 'always' learning with watercolour and THAT'S what makes it such a fantastic medium to paint with, you never get bored! :-) Treat every painting as a challenge and with a smile on your face, I do! @@TheDevonArtist As i sad before the downloads are gone. The do not stand on the page of the you-tube downloads anymore. So no one can download the reference drawing and the photograph sadly. Thank you for the replay. For me a full video is without speeding up. And see everything from start to finish. Like you probably do on Patreon.

@@cathydoorten Hi Cathy, I do still speed up some parts of my videos, but only those parts that are very repetitive. This way I can explain and demonstrate to my members what they need to do before speeding up any sections. The thing is, let's say a five-hour video lesson on my Patreon channel has speeded up parts, if I hadn't sped anything up, the video would end up being occasionally a 15-20 hour watch so far too long. 🤔 Here is the link for the downloads, which seems for some reason to work ok this end. @@TheDevonArtist Ok i did not know that. I see on the download page 3 bird video's and 2 eye video's with all there downloads but nothing from the ivy leaf. I see the same on Opera and Firefox. Wierd i had to zoom out to 90% for the ivy leaf to show up. Sorry

@@cathydoorten That is very odd Cathy as it shows up here ok on my laptop and main as I would call my BIG computer. Thanks for letting me know, at least if you have to zoom out to 50% you can see it. Certainly odd though, can you tell me are you using an iPad/ tablet to view the page?
