It is exciting how excited everyone is for this game. It feels like a nice throwback and a refreshing change from the heavier games being churned out on a regular basis.

"This game makes me happy!" That is one of the best lines I have ever heard in a board game review. I like to play lots of different games but one that truly brings joy is a blessing!

I picked this up last week and finally broke it out tonight. It can get really hard, even when the team is working well together. We all loved the theme and the challenge. Great pick overall.

I dislike Pandemic but I love this game. Sure, they both share a lot of things in common, but the theme, strategies, and how the game fights back are much more interesting to me in Horrified.

This looks amazing. Great art that fits the theme! Streamlined mechanics! So much replay value built in with the monsters all being so different. I can already tell the mummy is going to be a hard one for me to beat if too many of those tiles get flipped. The only monster I'm not too sure about is the Invisible Man. I just can't see him as a villain.

I got a Pandemic vibe indeed, and that's a good thing. Love the art, definitely going in my collection.

This game rules! I played 3 times in a row with my friends. It was easy to learn everyone picked it up super fast and we couldn't get enough of it. I love the universal monsters so that's a plus and everything in this game is faithful to the golden age era and makes sense! To be able to change the difficulty and change the monster roster is the most interesting dynamic that makes the replayability on this board game immense! It's a damn near perfect game and down the road I could see expansions like more movie monsters or even a stranger things reskin (you know it's bound to happen.)

Soundtrack for this game: Iced Earth has an album called “Horror Show” which includes a song for each Universal monster (an invisible man track appears on their next album called Hollow man)

Love it, love it, love it. Glad other people love these classics as much as me. I thought I'd never see a Universal Monster game.

Just played this game for the first time. I had so much fun with this game and it was intense at times. I can't wait to play with more people and different monsters. Thanks for the great review!

I kept passing on this game because it seemed too light. I got it on sale and it hooked me as soon as I opened the box and saw the warning. I was immediately caught up in the theme and have a great time playing it. It's a nice break from "crunchier" games while still enjoyable.

Very excited for this one, I've loved the Universal Monsters since forever & cooperative games just make me happy. Gaming life is good right now!

This seems like a perfect game to play after watching THE MONSTER SQUAD! That's one October weekend planned! 4 more to go!

Hey Tom! got a question. My wife and I LOVE this game. During the week we don't have much time for a big, meaty, game and we were wondering if you had any recommendations for games that are similar in length/complexity and just overall fun? I agree with you 100% that Horrified is just plain FUN while also being a great game. We have pandemic and other popular co-op games so we're looking to branch out. Side note, your reviews are a god send! thank you for all you, Zee, Sam, and everyone else at Dice Tower do!

Horrified is one the best board game that me and my girlfriend love to play again and again. We have played so much that we would like to see an expansion. It would be cool to see an expansion with The Phantom of the Opera, The Golem, Dr. Jekyll, Dr. Caligari and The Man in the Beaver Hat from London After Midnight. Of course it would be interesting to see also an expansion where you could play as Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Peter Lorre. It could also be an expansion about Vincent Price movies or Alfred Hitchcock movies and without a doubt H. P. Lovecraft universe. I also think it would be cool to see a classic Sci-Fi expansion. Like The Blob, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Fly, The Thing from Another World. I really hope somebody from Ravensburger will read my comment

I picked this up at Target today just in time for Halloween... It feels like a lighter, more affordable Arkham Horror clone which is great!

I love the nod to the Abbott and Costello movies by including Chick and Wilbur as villagers (their characters in "Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein").

I've had a lot of fun playing this game with friends, but the biggest problem I've had with it is the random creature movement. It's very easy for playthroughs to go wrong in the early game. For example, I've had a game where one player who went last got killed by a monster before they could even take their first turn, because the monster cards the other players drew on their turns directed Dracula over to them and of course they had no items to defend themselves. Or sometimes, the game might decide to spawn a villager directly in a monster's path, which results in their death and an increase to the terror meter. The former situation can be alleviated somewhat with a houserule, like "all players start with a few items in their inventory", but the latest situation is completely unpredictable and unavoidable, and if it happens at terror level 6 then you've all just lost by no fault of your own and there's nothing you could have done about it.

We struggled to beat Dracula and the Creature for a while...not because it's actually hard, but because we made it harder than it was supposed to be by mistake. The Creature's boat is supposed to go to a spot that's whatever color the item was you played. We just moved the boat one at a time... that explains why it was so hard. We were wondering why every other monster was so much easier to beat in a two-monster set-up. Now that I know this, I will never again play it that way lol.

Which one do you prefer, this one or Pandemic Reign of Cthulhu?

Good review, as always. Just a note for anyone else watching this, Tom makes a small mistake when describing the Mummy's mechanics. You do not need to remember where the scarabs are. Instead, you cannot move a facedown scarab, and have to spend one move on the Mummy to flip it faceup again. You also cannot defeat the Mummy while there are any facedown scarabs.

Looks pretty good. Now if only this game had an expansion that added a Giant Bat, Medusa & Death as possible enemies to defeat.

I have a rule question… If you land on a space at the end of your turn and as the other players take their turns an object is loaded onto your space does it cost you a move to pick it up at the start of your next turn?

Switched to iPhone to airplane mode (wifi off) it prompts “no connection” but I can still manage to play the game in the background. So I guess it is pretty obvious, it is pure AÍ.

Hopefully will get an expansion with Tarantula, a Martian, The Blob, The Fly, and Pod People. Yes, not all are Universal but still would be cool.

You need to review Campy Creatures. Would love to hear your thoughts on that one.

I fell in love with Touch of Evil because it felt like a lite version of Arkham Horror 2e. This feels like a lite version of Touch of Evil. Dare I call it a Jr Edition? I hope this game gets an expansion or two, to expand on the number of monsters in the game. However if it doesn't, I think I'm okay with that aswell.

If it was possible it would be fun to have a 80's version of the game. Of course for the Monsters it could be Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Chucky, Pennywise and Cenobites. But it would be really amusing to have a Humoristic version of the game where the Monsters are. Elvira, Killer Tomatoes, Beetlejuice, Gremlins, Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors. The playable characters could be Weird Al" Yankovic, Ash Williams, Vanilla Ice, Bill & Ted, The Goonies, Cyndi Lauper and 80's Jeff Goldblum

I got this game just recently and my brother got one too. A friend of mine who on facebook said he played it a while back and he said it's like a board game version of Abbott and costello meet Frankenstein, The monster squad and the gaggle of galloping ghosts episode of Scooby Doo where are you episode all put together. Other than that, this game is awesome and it's a must have for fans of the universal monster franchise.

Nice review. I like the look of the monsters. Otherwise not so much. The gameboard is missing something. Compared to another game in the same category, Alien- Faith of the Nostromo, now that game looks really amazing in every aspect. To bad couse I very much like co-op games.

I disagree a little bit on the components. The art is really nice, and they are clear to read, but everything has a fairly cheap feel to it. The cards are thin; several of the miniatures bend easily at the legs; a lot of what could be tokens or minis or pawns are replaced with cardboard stand-ups; and the crease in the board tears very easily. I really like the theme and gameplay, but I think it would've been worth ten dollars or so to get thicker cards, better plastic, and better plastic. Not that it's bad value or anything- just that I would be willing to pay more and get more with this particular box.

I'd love a Universal Monster retheme of AH:TCG or, at least, one cycle that doesn't have Cthulhu in it.

You would think playing solo is hard enough but then they make you raise the threat level to 3 for solo play crazy.

How long until there's a "Monster Squad" themed character expansion or promo?

My girlfriend and I have so much experience with this game that we play with all of the monsters and win every time. It's just the two of us, we play as the explorer and courier, and we do start off with six perk cards (as opposed to two), which is a little tweaking but we are playing against ALL the monsters and we are able to defeat them before running out of cards or getting too many kills.

This is written before watching the review. This game did not impress me by how it looked and by it's premise, but because it's high on The HOtness list on BGG, I decided to give this game a chance by watching Tom raving about it.

It seemed very similar to Pandemic.

It’s Frankenstein’s monster, not the professor!! Why does everyone get this wrong. Designers should really read the book (my favorite!) before using the character! Also he is not a monster, but humans f* crushed his hopes and dreams og becoming like them... Just read the book its genious.
