First off, great video by Stella and Tarrant. I don't know who the target audience is for this game. It's $40 at Target for what looks like a $15 ultra basic tutorial for the game system to draw interest to the bigger game for those not familiar with it. I can't see even close to enough here to create that interest due to the extremely limited gameplay, low replayability, two player only, and shockingly bad design look. You also need to build the miniatures to be able to play, something I do not think the average board gamer (non-wargamers) would be familiar with. Is there enough here for those already invested in the system to be enticed to buy? The entire game looks like it was phoned in, a cash-in on the IP. If you purchased it for the miniatures I imagine you could do a lot better with your $40.

Actually, a 10 pack of 'gants plus a ripper swarm is currently 40 dollars. This box is a 50% discount at the steep cost of also getting a board, some dice, and an Ultra Smurf. If you're thinking "wow, those prices sound terrible". Yeah. Yeah they are.

@@ccggenius Most importantly, this box is sold at Target with a rulebook. This product is very clearly not designed for established 40k players, It's a starter deck for people with zero experience with 40k. Basically every card game has this exact same issue with beginner products. I don't know that it's a good product for someone who is interested in getting into Warhammer, but a product like this is very clearly aiming to attract new players first, and show them what the larger ecosystem of Warhammer looks like. It may be overpriced, I'll just assume you're right that it's above median price of 40k products by a lot, but this is clearly not aimed at established players.

This set includes two Termagaunt squads valued on the Warhammer web store at $45 each, as well as an exclusive Captain model that they'd normally also retail at around $45. As well as a beautiful game manual full of art, a detailed game board, dice, objective markers, and a ruler. It's definitely marketed as an entryway into a hobby where armies can cost upwards of hundreds of dollars before assembling and painting them. You can't get cheaper brand new Warhammer models anywhere. Spamming Termagaunts from this game might make Tyranids the cheapest way to build a 2000pt 40k army.

Titus was demoted. He's a lieutenant now. I think the real value is the Termagants. 20 of them for $40 is a steal. A normal GW box of Termagants is 10 for $45.

I hate what this represents. The game costs $40. A box of Termagants ALSO costs $40. This means this set literally comes with a board, an entire EXTRA box of 'gants, and a spess muhreen "for free". I sincerely doubt GW is selling this at a loss, and I must therefore conclude that not only are they knowingly gouging us, they are getting exponentially more brazen about it.

I genuinely don't understand this at all. The most valuable thing in this box is that it has all of the components for play and most importantly a rulebook for players. If this is just a stripped down "40k in a box" selling this for $40 at big box stores seems pretty straightforward for a game as big as 40k. It seems like an introductory product for people who have zero knowledge of 40k, in the same way that Magic the Gathering has had dozens of different "starter deck" style products. They almost all are worthless from a financial standpoint, but the rules and components for two people to play a game is the point more than anything else. I don't see an aunt or uncle going to a hobby store and buying a box of Termagants, with nothing else to play against for a teenager for their birthday, I could absolutely see this being an entry point for that same kid precisely because it's self contained and was being sold in the games section of Target/Walmart/whatever big box store.

@@MaximumImpactGames he/she is saying that if GW can sell 2 sets of termagants, a set of the other tyranids, and a space marine character for $40 total at target(while gw is still profiting off of the $40 box) why does gw then sell those same components at a warhammer or other game store for $100+. Sure this is an introductory game but if there is profit to be had at the low price of $40 for 4 units, how badly is GW price gouging everyone to buy those same units at a game store where you would have to pay around $130 for the same plastic molds.

It's a board game with 23 miniatures in total. I'm not exactly in the hobby and watching this to see how it plays. But it a lot comparing it to a $40 box with 11 miniatures. It's for new inexperienced players like my self. They're going to likely have more people come to the hobby, when Henry Cavill's warhammer show comes out. I'm sure after GW meticulously makes sure it's depicted in how they want it seen and not how Amazon does.
