Isolation and confinement, as constant barking from the other dogs, made him develop spinning as a coping mechanism. Great job providing him with stimulus and consistent affection to snap him out of the behavior. I hope people take to heart that there are behaviors you'll see in the kennel that do not represent what kind of pet a dog (or cat) will make. Congratulations on adopting a hidden gem!

With isolation and other stressors during covid, I can actually relate. I depended on certain things, and crutches became abuse, abuse of myself. I wouldn't wish that on any person, much less a dog.

I want to thank this lady for her commitment to a dog who had been suffering in the shelter. Dogs like people deal with trauma in different ways. I am so thankful that Romeo had found his forever family.

So well said! Romeo’s sad, scared eyes at 0:32 were so heartbreaking. What a great family to accept the challenge to find the spinning cause and find other avenues to soothe him. I wonder if he engages with the other dog or not. It seems like they could have fun and play together.

My Irish Setter told me all about how she needed to go to the park every other day for at least an hour by simply handing me pieces of my temperpedic bed, my expensive headset and my chewed up smart phone. Only time I was relieved was realizing that battery in the phone didn't blow up in her mouth. Other times I just said thanks bub ......😩

@@ZLK132 Some animals will not get along with other animals. Dogs can be in cages not as small as Romeo's was, and they should be out to move around.

When I adopted my German Shepherd from the shelter, she had been fearful and trying to hide herself in a far corner of her cage. I was persistent in visiting her and treating her daily for a week. She finally started coming to me and was so loving. I adopted her and she was the best friend to myself and my sons until bone cancer took her life. She fiercely protected us from all threats and I miss her several decades since she died. We gave her a loving, compassionate home and she rewarded us with her love and protection. RIP Pepper 😢

The shelter is such a stressful place for these poor animals. Imagine you having a home and then one day everyone and everything was gone and you’re locked behind bars in a small cage. A lot of people don’t give the animals proper time to decompress , I’m so grateful this family gave him time and direction ❤

It has nothing to do with lack of mental stimulation and being bored. He was stressed which is why he was spinning in circles. Ask any vet and they'll tell you the exact same thing. Any animal acts up when it's under too much stress.

Huge thanks to everyone who got involved in rescuing Romeo! 🙏🙏🙏 Romeo is smart, sensitive (in positive way) and was picking up all the negative vibes from imminent euthanasia situation. He didn't know what to do other than spinning and going crazy! Thank goodness he was saved by great people.🧡🐾

How absolutely heartbreaking that being in the shelter was so stressful and depressing for Romeo that he had stopped eating and spinning endlessly in his tiny kennel...and the shelter's answer to that situation was to euthanise him. 😢😢 I'm so glad that someone saw a good boy that needed a home with a family that would love him. ❤❤

He was extremely stressed and that was the only way he could release that energy. Ample exercise and mental stimulation with repeated confirmation that he is safe and loved is all he needed. Great humans for a wonderful dog.

He was bored, chasing his own tail for stimulation. German Shepherds are very intelligent dogs. He just needed toys!

Shepherds are highly intelligent and working dogs and need a job to be productive and be mentally stimulated. Anyone who thinks of owning one must know how to keep them busy and going for long periods of time. This is why they are often K9 officers - lots of training and stimulation to keep from being bored and doing what this poor dog did. SO glad he was rescued by a family who understood his needs.

I just adopted a 8 mo old GSD that had the same issues and would bite the cage and the Shelter had tagged her as unadoptable because of this. She was kennel stressed and was to be put down Feb 21, I had to go through 6 rescues before I found one that would tag her because they were all full and the shelter would only release to a rescue and not the public. I finally was able to get her out on the day she was to be put down. She has been a handful as she has had no training and wasn’t house broken but with a lot of patience, time and love she is a very loving, smart puppy and is 90% there and continues to get better everyday. These dogs just need a chance to live out their lives in a loving home. Spotty is not my first rescue dog as I have 3 others that had special issues and they are all the best now and we are all a happy pack but I’m filled up and don’t have any more room for anymore and it breaks my heart that there are so many great dogs in shelters that just need a chance and a loving home. That you for saving him.

Poor guy… he got traumatized at the shelter. It was heartbreaking to see how scared he looked in the car. Thank God he found a loving family who helped him to go through all the issues he had!🙏❤️

Thank you dor saving Romeo. You have forever changed his life. He will repay you in unconditional love and loyalty. I adopted my cheweenie from a family who kept him in a kennel all day, and gave him zero love and attention. When he moved in with us, his true personality developed. He is a sweetheart and a protector. I had never seen him so happy. I watched him from a far for a year. Until my relentlessness in wanting him finally won, and they gave him to me 😂

Is it sad to think about how many animals out there show annoying "habits" while they're in the shelter that stop people from adopting them, while knowing that most of them can become lovely pets once they truly feel loved and safe and cared for in the way they need. Many animals are put down just because no one showed up willing to put that effort in for them.

I had a German Shepherd growing up. He was the best dog you could ever have! He passed so long ago, but he’s in my heart every day. I still miss him and I shed tear 😢for him more often than I would like to admit!❤ thank you so much for giving Romeo a chance! 🥰Who knows what he went through and the spinning may have been his way of comforting or reacting to stress. You gave him the chance he needed and deserved much love and happiness to all!❤❤❤❤

You give humanity hope. Sometimes when I see these cruelties I feel like if we are to be attacked by something I would say yep we are terrible beings but people like you give humanity hope. I rescue as well and I condemn anyone who pays 3-6,000 for a pure bred dog. These dogs deserve a happy life.

Extreme anxiety, especially for a German Shepherd, without positive stimuli. I adopted my GS, and at first, he too, had and sometimes still does have anxiety. They are working dogs. Bark! Haha!

I rescued my dog from a short/ tight kennel. 14 years later, when he is distressed he will spin. It was all he could do for the first 9 months of his life. Since age 9 months, he has never been in a cage. I sleeps on 2/3 of my bed... haha his bed. He has not spun for years now. There is always hope.

I am so glad that there are people in this world like you. When I adopt a dog and I see that there are quite a few behavioral issues to work out. Like you, I give him time to feel comfortable then we work out the problems you don’t give up. It’s like a child you adopt a child you don’t give them up you have a child with learning disabilities. You don’t give them up, I’m so happy Romeo is living his best life and you saved his life❤

I wish people would stop getting German Shepard puppy and realize when they are a year or two too much dog for them. These dogs are extremely intelligent and bore easy needed te dive amount of exercise. If they don’t get those needs meet and you understand it’s you not the dogs fault, they end up digging, barking, chewing them end up in kill shelters. Please know that these dogs are big and shed allot, very loyal, sensitive and smart. Must have continuous training and most of all love and compassion. 🙏💔🐾

The inhumane mistreatment Romeo got at that kill shelter was actually criminal and they should have been fined! At the very least someone at that shelter should have been forced to stay in his cramped cage for a week! The trauma Romeo experienced is so sad but glad that he was rescued and had a wonderful foster mom and found his forever home with that wonderful woman and her dog.
