Something not mentioned is how the meklords could also use the parts of the other meklords. When the three emperors fused back into Aporia, he would use the parts of all three meklords.

If you ever played the PSP Yu-Gi-Oh games, you would know that the way they implemented the Meklords is actually how it is in the anime, which i found really fun. I actually ran those decks in those games, and found them quite interesting with how you summon the five monsters together. Then to my surprise, that was not in the TCG or the later games, which is a shame imho. They can ofc enforce restrictions on it to prevent extra deck plays or else it would be abused.

Funny thing is early seasons of GX did have villians with anti fusion cards. Like Chazz with Chthonian cards or yellow guy probably going to be anti meta guy before his Water/Fire dragon boss thing got cut. (Its in the opening)

The crazy thing about yugioh is that the powercreep is so prevalent that there are whole archetypes that are dead and can't be revived (without making a deck that's 90% generic meta cards and at that point is it even worth it)

Other fun thing about Emperor Granel, is that it’s effect lacks the “other monsters cannot attack” and the “you can only control one emperor” restrictions. Assumably cuz they couldn’t fit it on the card? Idk

Back before entertainment companies became better organized, having a simple creative disagreement with a commissioned artist would warrant a hasty change of art with zero explanation. Then an apology if it became too big a deal. That's probably all that happened in the case of Seismic Crasher and it's really tragic that players today would refuse to leave matters alone at that point.

even though cipher soldier's attribute change had no reason behind it, it name change does, since in the anime the cipher archetype became a thing, so when the archetype eventually got released in the west, the effects that specifically mentioned a cipher card had the text "(or kinetic soldier)" weirdly added to it, well...that's because kinectic soldier's original japanese name is indeed cipher soldier, whose name got translated as kinectic soldier for whatever reason, nobody cared about it since it was a really old card, but once the cipher archetype came about kinetic soldier became a member of it even though it has no synergy whatsoever with the rest of the cards, but i guess konami of america got tired of the weird effect wording and changed kinetic soldier's name instead

Meklord Wisel was my favorite tech pick in my chaos lightswarm deck during the zexal era. The fact destruction effects were common enough made it possible for me to special summon it, but him being dark allowed me to easily banish him if ever milled. I love his generic Spell negate

I’ll forever stand by the Genex cards, they were the first synchro archetype I was able to use in Genex and weren’t awful (at least at the level I was playing at). I’d love for them to get a wave of support which completely revamps and overhauls them. They don’t need to be meta defining or anything, but I just want them to be… decent

And whats really baffling about Genex was how they got a boss animation retroactivley added to Master Duel before many other more deserving cards.

Just remember Duelogs never watched the part of 5ds anime with the Meklord Genocide. That being said its cool to see a video on meklords given their hilarious notoriety for being bad as a anti sychro.

I found a funny parallel between Genex and Invoked where invoked takes the idea of one central monster that unites with various attributes to form powerful extra deck monsters. Only invoked do it better since not only is fusion a more reasonable extra deck form to work with for this gimmick than synchros and obviously its a self enabler.

In Yugioh duel links there is actually a skill for aporia called heaven, earth and people(Heaven is for skill, earth is for granel and people is for wisel)

I loved the design and idea behind the genex monsters, but hate that they have so little synergy. It always felt like I was building the deck wrong when trying them out, or relied so much on other generic cards that it just kept making me think about how much better the deck would be if I just removed all the genex cards

Regarding Cipher Soldier, wasn't this because the Cipher Archetype? (They focus on stealing monster and OTK) if i recall correctly they are all light attribute. Due to its name it's technically a cipher card.

Now that I think about it, you could get multiple episodes out of this series just talking about cards that have different effects from the anime to real life or cards that only exist in the anime. As far as I know, the entire C/C/C archetype is still anime only, and there's examples like that from every series.

It’d be interesting to see something about cards from the anime that got turned into different types of cards when they actually printed them, like the equip spell Dragon Nails becoming the monster Black Metal Dragon

On the topic of anti-fusion cards in GX, the manga actually did have a duel where Bastion ran floodgates to try and keep Jaden from fusing. Specifically, the effects prevented any cards from being sent from the hand or field to the graveyard, except by destruction. Jaden got around it by using the manga-exclusive Fusion Birth, which fuses by banishing cards from the top of the deck, and later Parallel World Fusion, which fuses by shuffling banished cards back into the deck.

The Mekk Lords being composed of different parts in the anime makes me think about those cards used by that one character in the Orichalcos arc (I know his dub name but I try to ignore dubs as much as possible) from the first anime where there were multiple monsters that could form a mech suit around the user. I don't think any of those cards ever became real world cards, but they'd have to be changed drastically if they did.

I haven't played yugioh in years, but back when I did I collected every Genex card and had a semi-decent deck of them before ultimate offering was banned. Part of me to this day wishes they would give another crack at making genex decent.

Genex and mekklord remknds me to the grand final where mekklord emperor wisel stopped Trishula the Dragon of Genex alliance from rampaging any further.

To elaborate on the Meklords in the anime, there was also a fourth user called Aporia. The three DueLogs talked about are his three forms base the moments in life that scared him (death of parents, death of his lover, and death of humanity), and fused together to become Aporia and the final boss of the dub. There was a much smaller arc after his defeat where he duels Jack and the twins, nearly kill said twins (that's right, tried to kill children to prove he was no longer human), and dueled again his boss Z-One (the actual finial boss) after losing the second time and realizing that humanity has already changed the course of history, and destroying the present won't save anyone. It's the second duel where he uses the Meklord Army cards and Meklord Astro Dragon Asterisk (he used Meklord Astro Mekanikle in this duel and the final duel of the dub). 5D's was weird and wild, and I love it. P.S. I forgot that the Meklords are also the robots that destroyed humanity in his future, so him using them kind of shows that jumped off the deep end at this point in his life. I guess he uses them to remind him of the cause of his despair (and ironically what he hopes to prevent).

I think Kinetic Soldier being made LIGHT was a mistake and that's why they changed it in the next errata. If you look at its erratas from every other language, it remains EARTH so I think it was just a mistake they made when they errata'd the English version.

For a future Unknown Side, could you please do a quick one about "Dark Ruler Ha Des" and how his name is just Hades? I know that seems obvious to some, but I didn't realize it until like a month ago when someone else told me, and I'd be curious to see if any others hear it and are mindblown lol.

Ah yes, Meklord Emperor Weasel. EDIT: Wait, they said it right at 7:13, now I don't know what to believe. Also, in the anime, the three of them were summoned with the monsters "Wise Core" for Wisel, "Sky Core" for Skiel, and "Grand Core" for Granel.

You can just send a union equipped to Skiel instead of the synchro for its direct attack. Shien's spy or Give and take could help better with their effects to absorb them.
