Glad you are getting more into the Rugby....watch the British and Irish Lions - they are playing against South Africa in July - check out the documentaries of them - basically the team is made of the very best players from the UK and Ireland - they tour every 4 years and face Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. They drew against NZ in 2017 - Won the series against Australia in 2013 and lost to South Africa in 2009 - its a special tournament that plays matches against regional teams leading up to the final 3 test series against the national team.

It is more complicated than saying it is the 37 best players from UK and Ireland. It is truer to say it is the 37 players who best fit the coach's needs. Some of the 37 'best' players didn't get selected.

@@clarenceflam not strange at all. it is always a talking point for Lions squads and this year possibly even more so. It is not unusual for front-line players to be left out but it is still surprising for some who are apparently red hot certainties. There have been possibly more unexpected non-selections this time; Kyle Sinkler (very unexpected), Jonny Sexton (getting on a bit but very experienced: just like Alun Wynn-Jones really!), Jonathan Davis, and quite a few others. It is all part of the Lions tradition.

That Cipriani pass was superb because many times with long passes the receiving player has to check his/her speed and reach up to get the ball giving the defence a second to react. With that one the timing, pace and height was perfect for the wing.

That was amazing. When I was about 9 years old, I was only one of two girls on our school trip to watch England v France B rugby teams. I spent most of the time worrying about and feeling sorry for the foreign gentleman trying to sell his souvenirs at the edge of the pitch. 😿😄

Fiji, while not quite a top ten side in Rugby Union, have been incredibly dominant in Rugby Sevens. They've won the Hong Kong Sevens 7 times out of the last 8, 19 times in the tournament history, and finalists almost half the time they've played. Their handling skills in conventional Rugby Union are born from their emphasis on Sevens as the kind of rugby they play. In Sevens, they pass and offload with an unorthodox, basketball-style play, much like some of the passes in this video. Rugby Sevens was part of the Olympics for the first time at Rio 2016, and the Fijian team obliterated the GB team to take gold. As much as I wanted our home team to win, I was delighted to see a team take a match with such style. The whole match is here on youtube, and I think you'd love it.

@@cixsmiley3618 I enjoy rugby league, but I've not seen british RL produce a single player with the genius of a Shane Williams, David Campese, Jason Robinson or Dan Carter (to name but four). Indeed, some of the best british RL players I've ever seen were head-hunted from Union.

@@ftumschk really then you don't watch rugby league. For starts not English but sonny bill started in league. Secondly the step from league is big. Andy Farnell did alright and is now the Head coach for Ireland. Welsh team was at its prime when it trained with saints rlfc before everone else started using ex league players for coaching backs and defence. Just noticed you said Jason Robinson so obviously your clueless

I think it was 2-3 years ago, I met a American at the gym I go to (in New Zealand) we got talking, I asked why he was in New Zealand during winter and he replied "to watch the All Blacks" to my surprise, he was a huge Rugby fan and even coached it back in Northern Carolina he said the sport is getting huge over there and that it was just a matter of time before it becomes like soccer over there.

i dont watch alot these days apart from six nations , but this game was awesome at school , when it was too wet to play football we got rugby ball out , so much fun in the rain and mud lol

A lot of the college and NFL punters are coming from Aussie Rules, where everyone essentially passes by kicking through the air across a huge cricket oval - perfect pool to recruit punters from, what they have to develop more is kicking for hang time but otherwise they’re golden

There are 2 different rugby codes in the uk. Rugby Union, played by the "posh" people with 15 per side and the harder, northern working mens Rugny League with 13 per side. Similar, but different rules - watch both (so far you have only seen Union) and see which you prefer...

the point they place the ball over the touchline is the point out in the field they kick over the posts for extra points -- hence the reason you see them cross the touchline and head for the p[osts if they can -- BTW love your take on our comidy

No comparisons between rugby football and American football, please. Both sets of players have guts and skills in spades. Enjoy them for what they are, and enjoy them both!

Agreed, but I often wonder if American Football as it's so based around set plays that it allows for flashes of individual brilliance, be it the quarterback or the receiver but stifles creativity and flare of the whole team. I guess what I'm asking is do any teams play 'outside' of the normal play book in a way that makes it more difficult for the opposition to work out he play and defend against it. The problem for die hard rugby fan is the stoppages the time the game takes to play the game.

Be good for you to react to Rugby League if you haven’t done so already. Predominantly played in the North of England with some exceptions Catalan Dragons in Perpignan France & the London Broncos. There’s a good story on the history of Rugby as well and the differences between the two.

Rugby is Wales' national sport. please react to 'Shane Williams/ultimate tribute. he was 5ft7", weighed about 170 pounds, yet he scored 58 tries for Wales. amongst tier 1 nations, that's the 3rd highest try count. if you want to see some more great passing moves, Fiji are the team to watch, especially 7 a side. it's their national sport

I played rugby at school and grew up on a council estate. Although saying that the school also had a "fives" court and produced a prime minister, so maybe it was a bit posh after all 😂😂😂
