Frank Santana Surprise! We've also tried to figure out how to extract gold, titanium, and uranium from other planets, asteroids, and comets. So, no, we're not only trying to deplete the Earth's resources anymore, but we will also be that kind of parasite for other inhabitants of the solar system/galaxy if they really exist. Human never seem to have enough of something.

Frank Santana exactly, why does everything have to be exploited. We should learn to respect the environment we are responsible for now rather than looking for another area or market to exploit

I was part of the engineering crew on an ocean Research Vessel call the Endeavor on the west coast of British Columbia Canada we were one of the first ships Two River have an ROV we actually tested the very first one it was an amazing experience on the very day we drop that thing in the Juan de Fuca Strait we discovered to sea creatures that were never seen before as well as to sunken ships. The Endeavor hydrothermal hot vents that were discovered off the west coast of BC was made by us hence the name Endeavour. I would give almost anything to be on a Research Vessel again. As well as being an Ocean Research Vessel we were a Defense Research Vessel during the Cold War and we did some pretty amazing and cool things out there as well as a few discoveries and like I said I really miss it.

Well, hopefully, at the very least, restrictions will be put into place in as MANY ocean waters as possible. Mining regulations within open waters will have to come later. In the meantime, as technology grows, countries around the world should ATTEMPT not to exploit their own sections of deep-sea floor. I mean, if they can find a way to do it respectfully to the planet, that’s even better. If not, we can forget about all these new species and wondrous sights featured in so many of these documentaries, lol.

Why does almost everything we study have to be about the “potential benefit” earth/nature could provide us?? Why cant we study just to know better on how to co-exist. And I was thinking of how findings of studies could be used to help nature but i believe nature is powerful enough to take care of itself as long as we dont go poking it around further.

The Pentagon routinely loses trillions, and can't complete an audit. Those toys, along with NASA, couldn't be funded without the help of extreme amounts of funding. My government isn't worth investing in at this time, including scientific research because science is being abused; like peace was given a bad name, and even the word bad turned into a good thing long ago. No transparency, no funding. No mining, no way.
