Esme and I headset for an overnight adventure in the Argo 6x6 and the new OneTigis Smokey Hot Tent! First time with a silk-nylon tent and a stove, so we are both learning some new stuff.
Lots of snow and some new trails to adventure down with the 6x6 Argo. The Hot tent worked out great.
Check out www.amazon.com... for links to gear used in this and other videos.

It's great to see you and Esmi back on the winter trail! This Argo is truly made for the terrain. What an awesome tent for the price and the severe cold. I hope OneTigris accepts your vent recommendations. It was also great to see your firsthand knowledge of natural resources. I appreciate your channel and enjoy watching and learning from you and Esmi. I hope Simon is doing ok too. Thanks!

Great trip! It's so humorous how Esme knows right where to go to settle down (the new pad). I didn't think that makeshift Argo cover was going to make it without blowing off...but it did!

I've got the same setup - Knico Trekker and the same tent (except I got it from the manufacturer for $40 less). I do have not problem venting the chimney straight up without the 45°, no supports, and I don't have a protective flap as you do. I constructed my stove jack with an oval instead of a circle - the jack is in contact with the chimney and not the least bit of melting has occurred. The silnylon fabric is relatively heat resistant and won't melt at temps that other uncoated nylon will. In fact, I got it a bit too warm for a couple of minutes after I stoked the fire good and as I had a candle lantern near the top and the wax dripped out. The tent suffered NO damage. I don't screw the chimney together - the friction fit is fine. The stove can be rotated into several positions - I had mine rotated towards the back and fed the stove through the night with it being just an arm's length away.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips! I prefer the angled chimney pipe and although the friction fit maybe good there is a chance wind will walk out the pipes overnight. This is something that does happen and there are plenty of tales about it. I prefer to take the time to insert 5 screws and know I'm solid 😉 But each to their own! I'd like a titanium stove for this tent to make it backpack-able but we will have to see what I can afford 👍

Great job Michael, happy to see the Argo back in action. I ordered mine a few weeks ago, should be here by mid December. It’s a 2020 6x6 600, very base model but that’s all I need. Added windshield, full canvass top, winch moveable to back and brush guard. Tracks will need to wait until I figure out if I need them or not for my particular environment. Enjoy your videos, cheers!

Very nice video. As usual, Esme was the best part of the video. Lol. She is a sweetheart. That dog mattress was especially nice. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 However, I would never buy that tent. Here’s why: #1 - As you pointed out, the tent has no vent. A vent is absolutely critical to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. One good snowfall while you are asleep, and that tent is sealed, except for the chimney and the small air gap around the chimney. This is 2019... at least one working carbon monoxide detector should be used. #2 - No way to see outside other than opening the door from the ground up. Even a small vinyl window, that can be covered with a Velcro flap, would be a welcome addition. #3 - No floor or skirt. One last thing... I would never go to sleep and leave the stove door open any amount. That is a fire hazard waiting to happen. 😔
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gauntletwielder - Glad you enjoyed Esme - She always makes my trips special! 😊🐶 1/ Venting could be better and really needs to be higher up and protected so it cannot be covered by snow. 2/ Not a fan of windows also in cold weather the plastic become brittle. 3/ I would not add a floor (the bug net has a floor) for winter camping - totally not needed. A skirt would be useful but would need better venting! 4/ Errrrr - not leaving the door open is obviously not a thing to do.....The part with the door open was a cut scene not how I sleep! LOL 😉

Hi Michael and Esme, greetings from Québec. Love the quality of your channel!! I am the proud owner of an argo 8x8 with 20 inch rubber tracks. Last year we got over 4 feet of snow and the argo is the perfect machine to take my familly to the winter camp. While looking for argo videos I fell upon your channel and I was hooked! I must say that the argo videos are my favorite. Personaly I would have upgraded to a 8x8 with rubber tracks ( the new Aurora 40hp is surprisingly fast and comfy) but seeing the terrain you ride on in summer time, I can understand your choice of a utv. It's a tough choice....or not...keep them both! Salutations! .
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Stéphane - Thanks for commenting and greetings from Alberta! I think I should have bought the rubber tracks but I could not find a definitive source of information on the performance vs the plastic super tracks. I'm happy with the step up so far this year however! I bought the 6x6 so I could load it into my 8ft truck box and pull a trailer 😉 but I would have preferred an 8x8. I think I'll keep the UTV and the XTV for now as there is no perfect machine. Argo for winter and UTV for the other 3 seasons! LOL Best wishes Michael, Esme and Simon 🐶

That's a nice/quick tent. Gotta love the hot-tenting too. Your buddy didn't give you any fresh venison steaks to have after doing the recovery for him and taking a winching casualty? That Esme's a lucky girl, having that cozy camp bed to hang out on!! Nice outing, and nice axe work there too, keeping that bit out of the dirt with the controlled strikes.

I do like the quick setup of the smaller tipi tents, very handy. No meat for me sorry. If I didn't get it myself I cant eat it 😟 that's the rules I set for myself. The bushman axe is pretty good for that - lightish head and very controllable. You just need a bit more velocity to get the splitting done! Any trips planned?

Wow I can't believe how inexpensive that tent is. I bought an ultralight hot tent years ago that is basically the same thing but a little bigger from a company called seek outside. It cost me around $1400 all said and done and it's been one of the worst cases of buyer's remorse I've had in my life. Great tent and it's served me well, but $1400 for what appeared to be about $100 worth of fabric and a couple hours of sewing work... Anyway thanks for the videos I get to watch these from work while my argo and $1400 tent sit at home in the garage hahah.

Yikes! I almost bought the same tent from Seek Outside but I watched some videos about it (Canadian Prepper as I recall) and decided to go with the Snowtrekker tent as my main winter setup instead. I though about the Seek Outside tipi when I was using this one and I think it's a great cheaper alternative. I see no additional benefits of the Seek Outside model with the OneTigris.

Can you just drill a small hole near the top of the centre pole and put in a hook from a bunjee cord to hang boots or other items that need to be dried out? I like the Smokey hut tent and was looking at getting one but then I seen the Iron wall and really liked some of its features... OneTigris seems to be really changing the game when it comes to outdoor products!
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Thats a pretty good idea about the pole BUT when using it as a hot tent I would avoid putting anything on the pole. The last thing you need is the pole slipping and the tent coming down on the stove 😟 The iron wall looks pretty nice too! Personally I like the double width door of the Smokey but the half bug shelter would be nice for summer!

another great video. I really enjoy your videos. I have a few questions How do you steer the argo with the tracks attached, what camera do you use, why is there no floor in hot tents I have been investigating a Russian tent that has zip outs for the stove and ice fishing. Keep em coming.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi James, Glad you liked the video! The Argo is a skid steer, so breaking one side makes it turn - very simple but effective. More expensive Argo's have the Admiral transmission that has a triple differential gearbox like a tank. I use a Sony AX33 4k camera for my main but also have the DJI OSMO pocket, Air drone & OSMO Action, plus my iPhone. In very cold temperatures a floor is not a good idea as the stove will heat up the floor and allow it to melt. The floor will then get wet and freeze to the ground making it difficult to remove later. You really don't need one. A good insulated mat for sitting and walking on is much better IMHO.

Hey Nice video ! I just bought a OneTigris orca hot tent, really excited to get out and try it. I'm in the market for a stove now, no idea what to get, I don't want a really big stove, yours seemed to be a nice size, and seems to be reasonably priced. What do you recommend?
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Maritimer - Thats awesome, I think you will really like it! The Kin-co trekker would work or maybe something slightly smaller but keep with the 2.5" - 3" diameter stove pipe. Some of the hardware stores sell more vertical stoves that might work for about $100. I plan to build an ammo can stove in the next few months 😃 My never ending project list!

Once again it’s excellent to see your videos and the variety of you products and system. Thanks to you and others, I’ve learned a lot about hot tenting and the many options there are. I’m glad to see you have tracks now on the Argo. We’ve spoken about the Argo and Can Am and I brought up my snowmobile. Can you get a cab for the Argo? I know equipment like skid steers have pop on cabs with a windshield wiper and a heater system, that might be nice for you and Esme. Tracks are unquestionable on snow and those tracks look wide enough to give good flotation on snow. I hope it works out. I’m happy with my system and it’s nice to see someone with such a set up. Hope to show you mine someday 😊❤️🇺🇸❄️☃️🛷⛺️

The Emporium Outdoors cool, DIY is always interesting. Last year I failed at making a channel, I hope to accomplish that this winter and will let you know. It’s funny your doing this tent there is a definite explosion of videos on it, one guy has a different model from the same company and is going to do a full comparison video. I forgot to say, check the G Stove web site. They are making shelters now. Lavvu style with vertical side walls down at the bottom. Upper and lower venting. The stove jack is at the back, which I’d prefer out the side like this tent you have but there very interesting in design. Thanks again for responding

It's the KZfaq cycle - The manufacturers push products to key channels all at one in a marketing campaign. I normally don't bother but I like OneTigis and already own their gear. I like the G-Stove but its expensive. I can get a titanium stove for about the same money! Thanks for the info 👍

Very enjoyable as always from you both. The tracks on the Argo are fantastic, no problem at all cutting through snowy terrain with those fitted to it. Thank you again Michael for going a little more in-depth on how to light a stove. I for one am still trying to get my head round in so it’s a big help to hear information on what to look out for and to listen out for. Just wanted to ask the name of the temperature gauge you use on the flew, how does it fasten on to the flew? Think I’ll be on the lookout for one. 27 yr old boots! 😳 quality material then. Esme looked quite content on her new mat and just chilled out while you set up lol. Thanks once again to the both of you, Ant 👍

Thanks for the comment Ant! Search amazon for "stove burn indicator" - They are about $10. The attach with a magnet to the stove pipe. You have to mount them about 18" from the base as I recall. They make adjusting the stove so much easier. I can keep the temperature pretty constant by small adjustments with the help of the gauge 😉

The Emporium Outdoors Would be awesome to see you take a several day adventure in your new vehicle with Esme. It would be like car camping you could bring everything. I know how it is trying to get time to go when you have other priorities. I will pay off my Toyota FJ Cruiser this year which will allow me to take more trips this year instead of just camping in the yard. Probably not next year but the year after I’m going to do the lake superior circle tour out of my truck. I’m really excited for that. And yes there will be some great fishing along the way. I’m really excited about that too. I need to improve on my fish cleaning skills although I think if I’m gonna cook them over the fire I might just gut it and dehead it and kind of lazy that way lol it’s been quite a while since I’ve had to clean fish on a regular basis.
