I grew up there and was 16 when it blew. I will never forget that day. We lived not far from mt St. Helens and used to camp up at spirit lake and meta lake. I remember the old growth forests there. And this really tall and perfectly shaped mountain. Then may 18, 1980 the mountain seemed to lose half its height and a big mushroom cloud hung over it for days like a nuclear blast. The volcanic ash from the mountain made a mess all over our roof and roads that took years to clean up cuz it just blew here there and everywhere and the mountain blew over snd I we got years. You couldn’t use you windshield wipers if there was ash on your windshield with the rain cuz it would scratch your windshield so bad you couldn’t see out the window. Pretty destructive but I still love that mountain.

I rented a 500 sq ft house for about 10 months, and my husband (then fiancé) lived with me for 7 of those months. It was actually pretty doable even though the furniture I already had was way too big for the space! Just added Mt St Helens to my list, too!

I stayed overnight in a cabin in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, five years ago that was roughly the same size as yours, but much, MUCH more basic. It had electric lights and outlets, table and chairs, double bed and two bunks with mattresses. But it was only $40.00 for the night and was far superior to pitching a tent in the rain.

Hi! New to your channel...found it by searching for Oregon vlogs, as we’re planning to relocate from Michigan in a couple years. You guys have me completely hooked, so now I have to go back and catch-up on your old stuff! I just wanted to add that my hubby and I stayed in a tiny house during our vacation to Portland last year, and it was so much fun! It’s called Caravan- The Tiny House Hotel, and it’s in the Alberta Arts District. There are 6 or so tiny houses, each with a different theme/design. Each designed by local artists, I believe. They’re set up in a “caravan” with a fire pit in the center, complete with firewood and s’mores supplies! We absolutely loved staying there, and like you, we could easily live in a very small space. If you ever make it back around to Portland, you should check it out! Again, love your content...it helps getting through this yucky midwestern winter much more enjoyable! Safe travels!

Hope you don't mind me saying but you could see just how powerful My St Helens was as there are lots of video's on KZfaq that tells you big the explosion was as it was filmed by quite a few people. I get that your young but it's your history just saying. Great video

There is a movie on netflix called expedition happiness. It is in German but you can subtitle in English. The film reminds me of you guys so much especially the school bus. I remember this eruption very well it was scary to hear and see the destruction. There was a video of a guy in the area that was filming trying to get out and the cloud of dust was filling the entire sky it is great if you can find it. Makes you respect nature.

Um your confused? There is no town of silver lake. There is Castle Rock and then you get to toutle which is a post office and gas station. I've no idea what city you showed. I grew up on the lake and my school bus went past this resort. The shots you showed of the mountain where almost to Johnston ridge. Very different areas. Also missed the town of kid valley on your way.

Hi, long time subscriber but my first comment, and a very off topic one it is too. I’m in the market for a DSLR microphone and your sound quality always seems really good, please could you tell me what your using? Coincidentally, I’m in the NW of England and was in Kirby Longsdale at the beginning of the week, also visiting the Devil’s Bridge and the Ribblehead Viaduct, that you made a film about a while ago. Many thanks for all your efforts, I really enjoy watching your travels. Best wishes, Andy. ps, when Mt St Helens exploded, we got the ash coating our cars here in the UK!

I really recommend visiting Bristol, even if the Balloon Fiesta isn't interesting for you. It's the largest Balloon fiesta in the world, outside Alberqurque! Highly worth a visit at either 6am or 6pm for the weather dependant balloon lifts, and the city itself is also worth exploring, even the SS Great Britain, which I highly recommend you see.
