Rarely do you find a live performance of a song that's actually sonically far superior to the studio recording. But this live performance stands above every other live performance I've ever heard in my life. It is simply breathtaking. I don't know if the audience there at NBC's "The Andy Williams Show" had a full appreciation of what they witnessed at that taping, but Bobby Hatfield laid down a performance for the ages. The term "mic drop" wouldn't come along for another 40 or 50 years, but nobody ever dropped the mic quite like Bobby Hatfield did that day.

I was born in 1951 and this song was the introduction, in my late teens, to the power of a love song. My ex husband, when we were dating, taught me how to do an old fashioned waltz to it and I think that's why we stayed together as long as we did lol (don't tell my present husband that...*wink). Songs had so much meaning in the late 60's early 70's. Ahhh the good old days... *sigh*

Even better than the studio version. Buttery smooth and effortless. The song was originally in an old black and white film of a man in prison singing this song because he was missing his wife. The day that Bobby Hatfield sang this live, his mother was in the audience and she had never heard him sing the song live before. I might add that he had a head cold that day. He owns this song! And it's the best live performance I have ever heard.

The ultimate love song. Did you know that he and Bill Medley flipped a coin to see who would do this song and the music Gods picked Bobby Hatfield. You appreciate great music. Most young people don’t realize the great music that came out of the 60’s and 70’s. The music I grew up with. If you can give You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling, Soul and Inspiration and Rock And Roll Heaven from the a Righteous Brothers. From what I understand their music is going viral especially Unchained Melody. New subscriber here and thx for playing it.

For the record, the Bobby Hatfield/Righteous Brothers version was not "the original." It came TEN YEARS after the original. In fact, in 1955 alone, there was the movie version, and then there were three covers of it that all appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 that same year.

And that my friends is the incomparable Bobby Hatfield. Just to add another dimension to this lovable guy's character, let me tell you about his sense of humour. He was a friend of Elvis of course, so one year he had hundreds of Christmas cards made up with a photo of himself and Elvis, and sent them all out to his friends with the message: "Merry Christmas from Elvis and The King". How funny is that? Rest in peace Bobby... and thank you so much.

I wish you could have lived the day like I did pal. It was not an easy time. Vietnam... Marches... Racial hatred... fear... confusion. Every time we found a hero some idiot would kill them. Music like this was more than perfect art. It was a life line to a safe and happy place.... and while Johnnie Mathis and Nat King Cole got the ladies warmed up in the front seat...this was the one that had them dragging you to the back! Make out music at its very best. And probably always will be. Great reaction and sincere thanks.....

In my opinion it is the most beautiful, pure singing of a song by any singer I have ever heard. My son, now 34 had to listen to it every Sat. as I drove him to the mountains to ski, (started when he was 4). He always told me our generation had the best music. I am so glad you too appreciate it! This song was done just by Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Bros. Both he and Bill Melody did solos also.Their voices shouldn't have blended together but they did and it was pure magic. There were artists before him and after him that did this song but he did it live no do overs. IT WAS SHEER PERFECTION. Many fell in love to this song and with him. (yes the song was in the movie Ghost).Bobby voice was the tenor voice and Bill Melody was the baritone voice they shouldn't have blended together but they did and it was pure magic. 💔 Bill Melody did the song I had the time of my life that was in (Dirty Dancing).

I really appreciate you younger folks honoring these wonderful old artists. They worked so hard on their craft, hours and hours of practice and dedication, and as you said, without auto-tune, digitized gymnastics to make an artist sound better than they are. They shouldn't be forgotten and it is actually GOOD for you. Science has looked at the brains of people listening to music like this vs music like heavy metal and the like. I assure you, you'd rather have your brain on the Righteous Brothers than Ghetto Mafia. I just found your channel, I am an oldster, growing up to mid 60'-70's music. It was a prolific time for singer/songwriters and I am so glad I was around to hear it. Hope you continue w/classics. Namaste.

I’m going to have to add Willie Nelson to your classics list. Probably the most prolific songwriter ever. He’s well into his 80’s and still writing, recording, and performing. In his early days he could not sing his own songs because his voice and cadence was too unconventional. The song Crazy made famous by Patsy Cline was written by Willie, record executives wouldn’t let him release it. My all time favorite is Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain.

This guy is tall, with big hands, that is not a small microphone at all. This was really big with the guys who got sent to Nam, some told their ladies to listen to Bobby Hatfield, because he sung exactly what they were all feeling. This song came from an early movie about a prisoner missing his family.
