Where do Bitcoins come from, and what is Bitcoin "mining"? Peter van Valkenburgh, Director of Research at Coin Center, explains the role of miners in a system of decentralized currency.
As always, the Federalist Society takes no position on particular legal or public policy issues; all expressions of opinion are those of the speaker.

I never thought I could find a genuine account manager in this world after I lost all I had in the intention that I want to be free, then I got no hope. I lost interest in it, but surprisingly I came across Dr Sarah Perkins, She explained to me and gave me a bit trust so I decided to try once more, I received my first withdrawal a couple of weeks ago with her assistance. What more can i do than to thank her and reciprocate this love. Contact her on whatsapp +13189690008

@@adamslogan5880 They are very few expert who use special strategies to make steady earnings for investors and Dr Sarah Perkins is not missing out. Nothing beats the feeling of comfort knowing that your money is working to raise it self daily. She is the best no doubt. It will go a long way if anyone who won with Dr Sarah Perkins system post good. I have finally gained financial security. I’m really grateful to her. "I the miner, pay myself 12.5 bitcoins", seriously wtf and how it came from nowhere?
@beekillington7912
@beekillington7912 7 жыл бұрын
since you have to "win" the mining network "lottery" first to "pay yourself", it is actually more akin to the network paying you for the service, than you paying yourself.

So, mining is providing part of the machinery by which everyone else exchanges their coins? So what's all the stuff about finding hashes?
@beekillington7912
@beekillington7912 7 жыл бұрын
the hash finding is how the mining is done. you essentially "mine" a mountain of hashes to find the one that gets your the best hash. once you found that, your hash (kinda) makes the new block with all the transactions of the last 10 minutes

This is why GPUs and RAM are reaching 2009-2010 prices. Somebody make a mining process unit to alleviate this problem.

How can two miners avoid working on the same block?
@esweigart3367
@esweigart3367 6 жыл бұрын
How is announcing blocks and so they can be added to ledgers a "public good"?? Who is this public, not the public at large like most people think of. By the sounds of it "mining" adds nothing to society whatsoever. Computer science and technology is great, but it needs to be used for the greater good (like everyone can benefit). Technology is actually quite dangerous...

Where do bitcoins come from? With paper money, a government decides when to print and distribute money. Bitcoin doesn't have a central government. With Bitcoin, miners use special software to solve math problems and are issued a certain number of bitcoins in exchange. This provides a smart way to issue the currency and also creates an incentive for more people to mine.

If you want to hear the gospel, press read more..... Jesus died for our sins, he suffered and did nothing wrong. A crown of thorns was dug into his skull, was whipped 39 times, then was forced to carry a giant wooden cross up a hill. Then finally, was crucified and suffered the full wrath if God, he rose once more three days later. Believe this, and you will inherit eternal life.

this violates fundamental economic laws and has got to be, on some level at least...... a scam, the only question is who will be holding the hot potato when it all comes down
@Graymenn

you can not create money from thin air... it needs to be backed by something tangible that has real world value. In America,the federal reserve is attempting to do this, and we are all suffering the consequences. Even if bitcoin were legitimate, it presents too much of a competition or threat to the dollar and other "legitimate" currencies that WILL be squashed once it starts cutting into enough of government tax money. Either it is a scam, and will fall apart under its own fragile frame, or it is not a scam and it will be destroyed by the major governments of the world. Either way, it is extremely risky to seriously invest in bitcoin. On a side note, i'm trying to build a gaming pc, and I can not find ANY graphics cards at all thanks to lousy bitcoin miners. If this is what this godforsaken world has come to..... buying up every graphics card you can find to frankenstein them together in some unholy power sucking, heat generating inferno, that is loud as shit....... then I hope we all lose power indefinitely. This is pathetic.

you realize that banking institutions are some of, if not the most powerful organizations in almost every society right? Do you think they like having someone else sticking their fingers in the pie? They will find a way to make bitcoin users pay, or they will shut it down.

How can a currency like Nano (Raiblocks) get rid of miners? I understand they use DAG, but surely all transactions still need to be validated - even IOTA has each sender validate 2 previous transactions. Is there any validation at all in Nano? If so, who does it and when? TIA.

If the government decides to make it a legal currency, and regulate it as a real currency instead of an asset, people could pull away from it.
