Scott Dworkin won't take "no" for an answer.
As a fighter pilot-hopeful, Scott encountered roadblocks that forced him to pivot to #aviationphotography and eventually #aviation #photojournalism, where he proceeded to fly in most #usairforce and many #usnavy #aircraft without ever wearing the uniform.
Today, Scott is the creative genius behind Mach 91 Aerial Photography (www.mach91aerialphotography.com/) and the author of this generation's greatest #navalaviation book, Becoming the Rhino (www.mach91aerialphotography.c....

Even after listening to dozens of FPP episodes and hearing lots of naval aviation stories, listening to Scott talk about his experiences on an active flight deck from a civilian perspective was the thing that opened my eyes as to how intense the job must really be. At 47:30 - 47:50 that last remark from Jello hit it home for me, awesome stuff.

Scott and I were big aviation buddies back in high school in the late 80s. 10 years ago he and I reconnected and he inspired me to get back into serious aviation photography. Thank you Scott!

Saved from "selling fabric" to go on to a excellent gig, we gotta love the way the universe unfolds. Thanks for an hour and a half well spent.

When I was a pro sports photographer, I would be in the media room when reporters were asking questions of the players and coaches. One well known and respected writer I knew often said “Sometimes the best thing you can do is turn on your recorder and put it in front of the subject and go sit down.” Well done to both of you and yes, I’m going to buy the book. 👍

Wonderful interview! Reminds me a bit of my journey of persistence to photograph warbirds. Not just from the ground but air to air.

Good episode Jello. And yeah, loved the non-flyer feedback! I've had the honor of a few backseat fighter rides - NOBODY that hasn't done it understands how physical it is. Kicked my butt every time (esp. BFM rides).

Just ordered the book. Wonderful podcast. I found it interesting when Scott talked about the number of photos he took for the book and that he did not “spray and pray”. Probably because he learned photography in the film/slide days. I started aviation photography shooting slides while in the air force in the early 1980s. Today, with several digital cameras that can shoot 10-15 fps, I still shoot very selectively, because I learned on film/slides which cost money for every shot taken with film and developing.

Marty, while I did shoot some back in the film days, I’d say it’s because I’m lazy and just don’t want to sit and edit for hours anymore 😂😂

Maybe my favorite episode. I ordered the book immediately. Probably too quick because I missed the link to get a signed copy. I do live in Ventura County though, so maybe I’ll run into Scott one of these days. 😂
