It's not often that Ireland is in the conversation as a top country in the sprints, either on the Men's and Women's side. But one athlete has been changing Ireland's presence in the sprints across the board
From the 60m & 100m, to the 200m all the way up to the 400m dash
Rhasidat Adeleke, still just 20 years old, has been making an impact in the NCAA over the past 2 years and has already dipped her toes into Global competition, mixing it up with the best in the world across all three sprints.

This is a great report. I have come to it really late, just a couple of days after the NCAA and also 400m in Diamond League Paris. So you see, it is really great to look forward to some fantastic races. Here in Kraków, I am not that much more than an hour away from Stadion Śląski by regional train. At the end of next week, Rhasidat Adeleke and Femke Bol go head to head, I think now for the third time, there in the European Athletics Team Championships. And for which, this year, individual medals will be awarded as part of the 3rd European Games. And . . . just in the week after US Track and Field, the next Diamond League women's 400m will be coming back right here. Can you believe it? The cheapest Stadium ticket are 10 złoty.

Now I understand why the British commentators kept on talking about her at the last European championship. Your brief mention of Jodie Williams made me wonder for the umpteenth time why her career as a senior athlete never attained the heights so many people expected it to.
@AllInTheGame01
@AllInTheGame01 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, not every great junior athlete transitions well to the senior ranks (Mark Lewis Francis being another great example). Injuries of course play a major role, but at least Jodie has now transformed herself in her late 20s into a sub 50s 400m runner that can make Global Finals. If she can stay healthy, there's no reason why she can't make the next 3 Global 400m Finals!

@@adegbenroagoro5180 Yeah she's improved enormously having only started running the event full-time at the start of 2021 which ended with her running 49.97 in both the Olympic Semi & Final! She's still a little injury prone though otherwise I'd be more confident in her @#6 on the British all-time challenging the times of both #5 Donna Fraser (49.79) & #4 Nicola Sanders (49.65), but she can't stay fit long enough to do so!

Her accent's a mix of Irish, Nigerian & US from having moved & lived all over :) Want to see her in the mix this year in both the 200m against Ofili, Flannel & Kevona Davis; and the 400m against Diggs, Wilson & Simon. Another youngster (with Nigerian heritage) to keep an eye on is WU20 400m Champ Yemi Mary John (51.50) who just moved over to the NCAA (USC) from GB!
@TheFinalLeg
@TheFinalLeg Жыл бұрын
Alot of mix in there! Though she will definitely be a top contender in the NCAA 200m this year, I'm starting to believe Adeleke's future really lies in that 400m. Not everyone can make the World semis and Euro finals running 50.53 off just sprint training. I really think she has sub 49.5 potential this year, which is arguably medal territory. But whatever she does will be crazy. Mary John is also on the rise! I think she was going to go to Michigan, but switched to USC last minute. Definitely a rising threat! Thanks All in the Game!

@@TheFinalLeg Just wanna see more 200/400m doublers in general :) She's more Perec/Miller-Uibo than a 100/200m short sprinter, and that 50.53 from Lane 1 was impressive & promising! Not sure I see her coming close to Athing's 49.57 this year, but 49.8 - 49.9 is possible!

@@TheFinalLeg I had Adeleke at 22.4/49.8-49.9 later in the season and she's already run 22.34/49.90 NRs in mid-April! And then of course Britton pulls off a 49.51/53.23 WL Double! I think Diggs is taking the wrong approach by continuing with the short sprints outdoors like she did indoors, and should be looking to run a mix of 400/600/800m races instead to build the strength that's a little lacking in comparison to Britton!
@TheFinalLeg
@TheFinalLeg Жыл бұрын
@@AllInTheGame01 Adeleke really is ahead of schedule from what most predicted. I think its a definite that she makes the 400m world final at this pace, and honestly, a medal is not out of the question, especially if the hurdler's (Sydney, Femke, Britton) dont run it. I feel pretty confident saying Britton Wilson will run 51.x and 48.x in the NCAA this year. The only thing that stops her is injury at this point. She is too smooth and has too much talent. There is a very very small part of me that wouldn't be surprised to see both Bol and Wilson run sub 51 in the hurdles at Worlds. Im still rooting big time for Diggs, but she is "falling behind" a bit in the NCAA when talking about the top 400m women. He windy 10.96 and 10.92 this year are really good, but she has to be running 49 mid by NCAAs to compete with Adeleke for 2nd place (and maybe even Effiong and Anning if they put things together again) But Diggs has a slight advantage that she is basically the top 400m runner in the USA right now, again assuming Wilson, McLaughlin are not focused on it for Worlds.

Thanks as always 1 Son! Its true, her being so talk she may be slightly limited indoors, but then outdoors she has soo much room for growth. 50.53 and World semis is crazy for just jumping into the 400m. So 49 is very possible with real serious training!
