THE ULTIMATE DAY - After thousands of days spent fishing, this one stands out as one of the best ever. Twenty-one marlin, all over 200 pounds are caught; and to top it off the team have a bone-chillingly close encounter with a giant squid. Fisherman or not, you will agree - the action and footage is stunning!

That marlin was 500kg+ all day long... 1100-1200 pounds surely the difference in bill sizes is crazy sad day for marlin fisherman... even as a shark fisherman that one hurts

We provide serial number tagging data to marine biologists who then track the biomass size and movements to help ensure the future of the fishery. The billfish numbers in Australia have bounced back for sure, late 90s the numbers were bad.
@jesuschrist9597

@@jordythebassist it helps with feeding/mating habits too doesnt it? or is that just for sharks
@jordythebassist
@jordythebassist 2 жыл бұрын
@@jesuschrist9597 it may be a little harder to determine that, especially if the fish spends a large amount of time at liberty. The tags you're thinking of are SPOT and PSAT tags that have a digital transmitter and can relay real world information. The serial number tags are just that, a piece of plastic with a serial number that goes back to a database of information and while they aren't as complex, being relatively cheap to produce compared to the digital tags means the sheer number of serial tags deployed has been massive over the years and the recaptures of those fish previously tagged has provided huge amounts of information and insight.

Excuse my ignorance but what does tagging do? What are they actually doing? Cheers!
@JacksonBakerFishing
@JacksonBakerFishing 9 жыл бұрын
Each tag has its own unique number and when you buy a tag it comes with a tag sheet with the same number as the tag. When you tag a fish you write down on the sheet when, where, how it was caught, estimated weight, anglers name, skippers name and a bunch of other details. You then send the tag sheet to somewhere and they put it into a massive database. If you catch a fish with a tag, you can look at the tag number and go into the database, enter the tag number, and see the details. You may even phone the person who caught it before. Hope this helped :)
