Ever wondered where you can insert a Dexcom G7 sensor?
Maybe you’ve seen other people living with diabetes wear it in other places than the arm or maybe you’re just looking to give your arm a break.
In this video, I’ll walk you through which placement the Dexcom G7 CGM is approved for in both the US (FDA) and EU (CE mark), as well as other placements that I, and others in the community use.
NB: Remember that off-label placements are at your own risk!

I have a Libre 14 day and like wearing it on my chest...where even with a bathing suit, it can't be seen, doesn't get bumped off and is within easy reach for scanning. Accuracy is good too!

Side sleeper here; I hate the arms and the constant compression lows. Team abdomen mostly. I did like the forearm and thigh but my second fav is mid chest. That was my mistake accurate. I seem to switch to abdomen in summer and the other sites in winter.

Thanks for this topic. I wear the G7 on my abdomen but will try the upper thigh. I’ve had a few technical issues with my G7 and the Dexcom customer service has been great. They have replaced my transmitter even when I tell them I’ve worn it on my abdomen.

I wore Libre on front of my upper arm because it was easier to scan, but I lost a couple from bumping into stuff. When I went over to Guardian I wore it in my chest mostly, tried thigh ones but I got false lows and had to change it and didn't that since. On G6 I used mostly stomach, since it was trickier to fix with on upper arm. Now I'm in my second G7(warmup still going on) and I placed it on my upper arm just before watching your video, haha. The first sensor I put on my stomach but I though I was going to let that are rest a bit.

Great video. I have been living with Type 1 since 1990. I have been on the pump for 24 years and using a CGM since their release. I just stopped wearing the G7 on the back of my arm. I was constantly losing communication with my pump. Since changing the location, I rarely lose communication. Thanks for suggesting the additional sites.

I have used the Dexcom G6, but soon switch to G7, since the Omnipod is now compatible with it beginning end of July. I usually place the Dexcom on my stomach areas, left and right sides. I just switch sides each time. I do like to use my upper arm or any part of my arm for either the Dexcom or the omnipod. I have used it for the dexcom once and it fell off in the same day, since I sweat so much. The Omnipod is usually on my thigh. I just switch legs after each one. A few times used my stomach. My blood sugar readings have been quite steady while the sensor is on my thigh. I would check with livongo meter once a day at least. With the G6, I have had a few compression lows during the night, but did not too many times. Hopefully with the G7, this will not happen.

I got permission from my doctor to use the G7 on my abdomen as any other location is difficult for me to apply. Dexcom has it on record and have not given me any issues on replacing any sensor which I have an issue with. But I don't think any of them are due to the placement. Just bad calibration readings mostly.

Great Info! I am a side sleeper and It is hard to sleep on left side 10 day then change to right side for 10 days to stop compression lows. The next sensor I am going to try is the spot you are using on the inner thigh. That looks like a great spot. Side note I seemed to get better reading in my right arm as opposed to the left arm. This seemed to be consistent since I went to G7 sensor on the arm. Thanks again for all you do for us diabetics.

I hate the compression lows, hence changed my alarm tone to something less annoying. Thankfully I have not had that problem lately, and have only knocked off my sensor once. The back of arm is annoying sometimes as a side sleeper, and I use my arms a lot doing projects, and by the end of two weeks it’s barely hanging on most of the time. I put my libre 2 on the day before the old one expires, heard it can be more accurate that way. The latest one I put on hit a vein, and wasn’t sure it was going to work, but it seems to be working right now after a couple days of reading high.

I've had so many arm-placed G7s knocked off, that I long ago gave up wearing them there. I started using them on my stomach. I tried my back once, but it was too hard for me to get the tape covers placed, and I didn't want to wait for help from someone else to get it done, and I scraped it off when I was driving. I did knock one off in my kitchen when I was cooking when I hit a drawer.

I used to have the FreeStyle Libre 3 and I wore it on my chest, directly under the bra strap. Was comfortable. Then I switched to Dexcom G7 because of the insulin pump t-slim. The area under the bra strap is sometimes good, sometimes not - depending on the sensor. I had no signal loss for 10 days and then again with a different sensor for a few. I'm going to try the thigh now. Thanks for the tip. I personally find the Dexcom G7 much more sensitive compared to the FreeStyle Libre 3.

Awesome information! Thigh was one of my fave sites for my G6 too, but have been hesitant to go “off label” locations since switching to G7. I’m assuming you haven’t experienced this if you’re recommending them? Thanks for all the great info, as always!

I wear my G7 on my chest just above the breast where the tissue becomes thicker. The back of my arm has the most thin, delicate skin, and placement there was a disaster. Directions say to avoid very fleshy areas and that is all that is there! I still have marks after 4 months. I tried putting the very first one on my thigh and the sensor failed so I haven't tried it again yet. On my chest, it is out of view and rarely gets compressed. I am 70 and though my skin is in very good shape for my age, the underlying fat layer is growing thin.

I wear my G7 on my abdomen above my belt line. I have no signal loss problems. I keep it on the side I don't sleep on so there are never any compression lows. I used to wear my G6 on my upper chest. I found I never accidentally caught it on some load I was carrying or on a door. I had such problems when I wore the G6 on my abdomen. So far, the lower profile G7 hasn't been caught on anything when on my abdomen. Thanks for the thoughtful video. I should add that men usually have more fat around their waists than in other places. This is why I think a stomach area mount is a good choice for men.

The G6 and G7 kept falling off my arm even with the skin grip. I'd sweat and the G7 would begin pinching and it had to come off as it was coming out. If i put on my stomach my fat roll might push it off in sitting (😅). The skin grip causes my skin to rip when it does work. I had to buy goop off. This is after buying Skin Grip. Geeeez. I've only used the G7 sensors on the back of my arm and other than an occasional compression low while sleeping I haven't had any issues. As I'm typing this I could not tell you which arm the G7 is on without feeling for it. It's that unobtrusive for me. I've started putting on a new sensor but not activating it until the grace period is up on the old one. That way I have no waiting period at all and don't need to calibrate with finger sticks as much.

Does a thigh & stomach placement hurt with the G7? My thighs & stomach are pretty lean & muscular
@DiabetesStrong
@DiabetesStrong 12 сағат бұрын
I don't think it hurts as the insertion is so quick. I do feel it more on my thigh than on my stomach

Why do we have to have FDA approval? If the manufacturer says it works in certain places

If we get a compression low, do we need to treat them?
@DiabetesStrong

No, those aren’t real low blood sugars but false readings. You always want to do a finger stick to confirm though

I went back to G6. I found the G7 was wildly inaccurate.

I don't like the fact that Dexcom doesn't allow you to take a screenshot of the app but you can "film" it from your tablet camera!

Weird I take screenshots of my Dexcom G7 app readings all the time with no issue on a IPhone SE? Especially when I am checking for calibrations so ai can see what Blood meter says vs Dexcom reading on phone.

Agree. Maybe OK for men, but on the arm is a terrible location for women trying to get a bra on/off. Plus too easy to brush against door frames. I like lower abdomen or thigh.

Of course you have to have enough fat on the front of the thigh to make it work right.
