I felt like such an important accident deserved a remake, so here’s “The Disaster of N72EX” remastered with new audio, better information, and more accurate animations. Also, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their loved ones on board the helicopter. 😢

I think you remade this video for views. You liked at comment on your last video which commended you for not feeling it necessary to mention who this tragedy impacted. “Basketball Tragedy” What changed??? That last comment got thousands of likes because people felt that your motivation for making the video was for educational purposes and not done just for clicks. Funny how millions of views can change things.... Disappointed!

@@joenyc A very common situation in charter flights with rich passengers is that they push the pilot to continue so they can make their schedule, against the pilot's better judgement. It's called "get there itis." Several times in my flying career I have chosen to do a 180 out of a bad situation, circle around for an hour to re-assess it, and sometimes choose an alternate field and land in better conditions. The LA police helicopters were not in a hurry that day.

@cardinalRG

I appreciate your comment, but a black box wouldn't have prevented this accident, if that's what you're suggesting. And if spatial disorientation is severe enough, a pilot may be unresponsive to external data, such as a terrain warning. Having spent many many hours as a passenger with my father in a high performance small plane [a Mooney], I can attest to how easy it is to be disoriented as to up, down, left, or right when you can't see outside the plane. You have to keep your eye on your plane's instruments that tell you the plane's orientation and trust them. That didn't appear to happen here. It is simple to climb up and out of a low overcast, but you have to pay attention to the instruments.

@DNALawyer
@DNALawyer 2 жыл бұрын
@@lonib213 Certainly! Imagine that you can not see anything out the windows. Everything is white; that is what happens when you are flying in a cloud. There is nothing to look at to orient yourself. Then when you are flying and the pilot pulls back on the wheel, you will feel the G force pulling you down into your seat so you will think that you are going up ..... but if the pilot also turns the wheel one way or the other you will start to go down not up. The more the pilot pulls up the tighter the turn and the faster you go down in an ever tightening spiral. It is called a death spiral. A trained pilot will give a little opposite rudder to keep the nose actually going up to counter the downward movement. You can't tell any of this is happening from your own senses. Usually you figure this out by looking out the window, but if you can't see......

Please, I am not trying to be insensitive here, but that is a REALITY. No matter how old, how rich/poor or how well known anyone is...we ALL have a DEATH APPOINTMENT CARD issued the day of our birth and the appointment will be KEPT and we will be ON TIME. What I pray is that they ALL had accepted JESUS. We may THINK we do NOT need HIM, but we can not afford to leave here without HIM. Death IS NOT THE END but the beginning of ETERNITY. If we have accepted JESUS, then we are safe in heaven with HIM and experiencing true rest and peace, but, on the other hand if we did NOT, there is NO REST or PEACE in hell. If a soul have been in hell for a BILLION years, it has NOT even started ETERNITY. GOD exist and so does heaven and hell. GOD is NOT in heaven playing games with us and we should take the wonderful message of JESUS more serious than we do. We are only PREPARED if we have invited CHRIST into our lives then WHEN death comes, we have NOTHING TO FEAR. We can say to death, like Clint Eastwood in one of his movies, “GO AHEAD, MAKE MY DAY”. Those 9 souls are in ETERNITY now, heaven or hell - I do NOT KNOW, but THIS MOMENT is your opportunity to run 🏃 to JESUS and ask HIM into your heart before it is too late. I have (1973) and I am looking forward to the day when I will see my sweet LORD face to face. Even so, come QUICKLY, LORD JESUS. Normal is NOT coming back but JESUS is.....READY? Maranatha 8/14/2022.

Ara was my neighbor and more importantly my friend. We bumped into each other not too long before the tragic accident, and before we parted ways he called me back and said "we should go bike riding on the beach again" I replied "yes! let's do it", and I continued in a hurry to get back to work (as usual), as he waved goodbye with that signature big smile on his face. Little do we know when it will be the last time you see someone. I was there when he was studying to get his license to fly (about the same time Kobe was coming to the Lakers btw), I was there when he was studying to get certified as a flight instructor.....he would invite me to fly in the chopper, I always responded with a "hell nah", he'd laugh and say, and I'm paraphrasing, it's almost impossible to crash in a helicopter. I'm still in a disbelief it ended this way with him, but if anybody knows Ara, and I'm bothered by cliches, but he was doing what he ABSOLUTELY LOVED to doi, unfortunately it was with passengers on board. Ara will be greatly missed, he was intelligent, always had a great big smile to greet you, and always wearing those damn cargo shorts lol 2Echo Xray you're clear to fly, FLY HIGH my friend ......................fly high 💚

Two things could’ve made this tragedy avoidable: 1.) Kobe looks up at the foggy sky and says, “Sorry, Gigi. We’re gonna take the car and be a little late to practice today.” Or… 2.) The pilot says, “Kobe, the fog conditions are bad. The LAPD don’t even fly in this kind of weather. I’m sorry, but I cannot fly you all today.” In that case, Kobe would’ve never used him as a pilot again, but you know what? Everyone would be alive today. Totally avoidable tragedy. #RIP to everyone who died.

1. The weather conditions were clear at the departure point, and at Bryant’s house. Had he looked up prior to the flight, he’d not have seen fog. Furthermore, it wasn’t Bryant’s responsibility to assess the conditions for flight anyway, in fact he wasn’t even qualified to do that. Naturally, he trusted the judgment of the professional(s), just as you do whenever you board an airliner. 2. You don’t know what was or wasn’t said between the pilot and Bryant, and you certainly don’t know that the pilot would have been fired if the dialogue you imagine had tad taken place. There’s no point in wildly speculating about something of which you have no actual knowledge. The accident was 100% pilot error, and neither Bryant nor any passenger was to blame in any way, not even for the failure to prevent it which you’re imagining.
@CBright7831
@CBright7831 Жыл бұрын
@@cardinalRG - _"There was heavy fog over the region that morning. The cloud cover was so bad that news helicopters in Los Angeles were silent, and the LA Police Department's fleet of helicopters - the largest law enforcement helicopter fleet in the country - were all grounded. The LA County Sheriff's Department had also halted flight operations for its helicopter fleet, based farther south in Long Beach."_ v.i.a. TWS Get off of your high horse. Kobe had previously fired a few pilots and liked this one because he was a yes man and would push the limit if need be. They were running late that morning. An experienced pilot should know when and when not to fly and there is no reason it should've been up in the air that morning. LAPD and weather report copters don't even fly in that kind of weather. He also had a history of flying in bad weather against regulations. If the pilot had put his foot down and said, "I can't fly you." I have no doubt that Kobe would've employed another pilot that would've took the risk. If two or even one of those decisions had been made, everyone in that crash would be alive today.
@cardinalRG
@cardinalRG Жыл бұрын
@@CBright7831 --You’re missing the point, so I’ll re-state it. You claimed that Bryant could have “looked up” and seen foggy skies. This is incorrect, because the skies at both the departure point and even his home were NOT foggy. The diminished visibility and fog were encountered far into the flight, and if you can muster an ounce of effort, you'll see this confirmed in the investigative data. Moreover, it isn’t a passenger’s responsibility, nor is a passenger even qualified, to assess the conditions for flight anyway. The pilot alone does that, and the pilot alone makes the decision to fly or not. Any accident resulting from that decision is the pilot’s fault alone. Law enforcement does a different kind of flying than the accident flight, so the grounding of law enforcement helicopters that day says nothing about the flight conditions for Bryant’s flight, which were not inherently unsafe anyway. After all, there were other aircraft flying that day, in the same area as Bryant’s aircraft, and doing so perfectly safely. In their ignorance, the media have hyped the grounding of law enforcement helicopters, and you've been taken in by that hype. You’re obviously ignorant of the fact that the pilot was IFR-rated, meaning that he was rated to fly in even *zero visibility,* and the aircraft was equipped to do so. _” An experienced pilot should know when and when not to fly…”_ That‘s correct, and that’s why the pilot alone makes the decision to fly or not. It doesn’t matter what kind of pressure a passenger attempts to exert-and you don’t know that Bryant even tried this-the pilot is to blame if the decision to fly results in an accident. _” If the pilot had put his foot down and said, "I can't fly you." I have no doubt that Kobe would've employed another pilot that would've took the risk.”_ You weren’t there to hear any conversations, and you’re not a mind reader. You have no idea what was said and what wasn’t said. For all you know about it-which is nothing--Bryant himself was hesitant to fly and the pilot talked _him_ into it. Your guesswork is pointless and cruel. _”If two or even one of those decisions had been made, everyone in that crash would be alive today”_ That’s a silly claim. If they’d traveled by car that day, then they might have perished in a road accident instead. Or any one of them might have died since then by another cause. Your certainty that they’d be alive today is as baseless as your sham insight into the cause of the accident itself. Why not just stick to the known facts, and leave aside all the armchair judgments and victim-blaming? And no, I’m not speaking from a “high horse”, but my knowledge is indeed many levels above yours. I’m a (retired) commercial pilot and flight instructor, and have worked on accident investigations. You’re a non-pilot who thinks he’s/she’s a mind reader, and who believes celebrity gossip more than expert investigators. You should ponder that difference.

@@cardinalRG - Any person can look up and assess what the weather is going to be like. It was cloudy skies this morning with high wind. You can make off the cuff decisions right then and there. "Look the sky is grey, and it's getting cooler, so we're not going to the park today." However, I put more of the blame on the pilot. He's a pilot and should know of the weather conditions before even flipping the switch to the turn to helicopter on. Kobe was probably in a hurry to get to his daughter's practice, asked the pilot if they could make it on time, the pilot said, "Yes, sir. Definitely. Get everyone on board." and lives were changed forever over an avoidable mistake.
@cardinalRG
@cardinalRG Жыл бұрын
@@CBright7831 --A non-pilot Googling the weather might use the information to cancel a golf round, but would be in no position to assess the conditions of a planned flight. As I’ve already explained, and which is still going over your head, assessing the conditions for flight requires expertise. Otherwise, passengers would decide if aircraft fly or not, rather than pilots, wouldn’t they? Pilots and aircraft fly in rain, snow and zero visibility quite often (I’ve done it myself countless times) including the morning of Bryant’s accident, in the same, small area. That alone defeats your naive claim that conditions were inherently unsafe, and that Bryant should have known it. _” It was cloudy skies this morning with high wind.”_ Oh, now you’ve given up the “foggy skies” claim and have re-positioned onto “cloudy skies”, eh? What kind of clouds were they? What altitudes were the clouds? What directions were their movements? It hardly matters, for the obvious reasons I’ve already given you, more than once. now Face it-you’re unqualified to assess both the weather and flight conditions, and you’re doubling down on very wrong guesses. Why not just open your mind and learn something instead? _” Kobe was probably…asked the pilot if they could make it on time, the pilot said, ‘Yes, sir. Definitely. Get everyone on board.’”_ Why do you keep guessing about conversations you weren’t there to hear? Does it excite you to think you have some insight that the experts don’t? _”… lives were changed forever over an avoidable mistake.”_ Yes, that’s absolutely correct. But only the pilot made the fatal mistakes. No passenger did so. Franky, you seem hell bent to blame Bryant somehow, despite utterly no basis for doing so.

When I was 17 years old I lived in California for a while and the fog that can roll into those areas can be the thickest most impossible weather you have ever seen. One time I was in the car, my uncle was driving and he couldn’t see the road at all, the fog had just come up so thick and fast. My boy cousin got out of the car and laid down on the hood and looked down at the pavement to see the painted line and with his hand he directed his father how to steer the car and we were just crawling so slowly but still moving to get out of this low area that was a strawberry field in Orange County. We finally got out of the area and visibility cleared up and he then got back in the car and my uncle continued driving us home. It was very scary. I just wish that they hadn’t been in such a hurry, I feel so bad about those precious little girls dying that day with their parents. Whenever children lose their life early it is beyond tragic.
