It should make the women want to play as good as her, seeing how much attention Caitlin is getting for her skill and the backlash she is getting shows it’s never been about the sport for them but just the attention. They’re dragging CC down because she is genuinely better than them and isn’t making a huge deal about it, they’re jealous of her attention not her skill….and that’s just pathetic.

Men would act the same way if the salaries were like the WNBA. The reason why there are less "haters" is because everyone getting paid pretty decently, even the worst players. Once the average salary is a million, more talent and less hate will be produced. But don't confuse a few negative players the media focuses on to generalize the WNBA as a whole. All this being said, I don't watch the WNBA much. But because of Clark, I've watched more WNBA content in the last week than I have in my lifetime. I actually watch WNBA highlights instead of the parody lowlight videos making fun of them. What a weird time we live in. 😂

It's not that Angel Reese isn't good in her own right, and I won't say that Caitlin isn't overhyped, but the reality is that Caitlin's media training shows and Angel Reese can't seem to grasp that. I understand she has been dealing with this for a long time, but she would earn a lot more respect and really change the narrative if she didn't whine about attention and focused on basketball and her teammates. The biggest detriment for her has been the moment where she was caught cheering after the flagrant shoulder check. Some class is required to get the respect she wants, and she will figure that out. It just might not be this season. It's probably smart for them to take Reese away from the media to prevent her from making it worse.

Clark has fanatics sure, but she’s also huge amongst a very fanatical crowd that sees her as some agent against the non-white, gay players in the W. Those folks aren’t actual basketball fans, they just use her for political clout. @BiggieTrismegistus
@BiggieTrismegistus 3 сағат бұрын
I agree that people need to chill for awhile but that includes Angel Reese herself. She's not helping herself by consciously playing the villain sometimes but then also complaining about being the villain. By flip-flopping back and forth she comes off as manipulative and like she's looking for attention. I'm not sure that's actually what she's doing; she's a 22 year old trying to maneuver through a media landscape that's new to her. Reese may just be lacking in a little savvy and maturity when it comes to the press. Regardless reducing her media availability is a good idea right now and I think everyone just need to lay off the "Reese vs Clark" narrative for awhile. They're basketball players; let them play basketball.

Mike, the main problem the WMBA has is that does not have any super athletes that can dunk or shoot three points by the dozens. Magic is correct that his and Birds competition did bring out more fans. The WMBA has some good athletes but no one that can just dominate a whole game with their athletic abilities. Mike you are correct the attitude that the veterans have for Caitlin is due to their emotional resentment of her getting more attention. Underneath the WMBA players trying to be professional they crave being recognized as special, unique, and admired and it is unsettling to have a rookie that is not considerably a better basketball player get that attention. The WMBA because they have no superstars has to play a team-oriented game based on passing and movement. Caitlin has the shooting ability to become the WMBA real superstar, but she will need to have a coach and teammates that will support her becoming a high scorer.

Part of this is ESPN promoting a rivalry narrative which allows them to include another player (Reese) when they highlight Clark since some of ESPNs own staff have issues with Clark's coverage. Team rivalries are interesting imo, but a rivalry between two individuals who don't even play the same position is not. It just creates (maybe even encourages) opportunities for people to attack individuals rather than teams. Then they call fans toxic for a situation they have created. Clark has earned her flowers, people need to stop bumbling it by coming up with ways to minimize, divert or expand it to others. Just let it be, it really is that simple.
