Couldn't you remove the handles before you did the repair/ refinishing? That way, you wouldn't scratch them up with sand paper. It came out great anyway 👍😊

I've fixed broken veneer and damaged wood with various stains, q tips, tiny paint brushes and art knife. Work. This looks good.

@@misplacedhillbilly7594 I tried to find an example of that on youtube and they all looked ugly and didn't match. Which if nothing else, means that it's a highly specialized skill that takes a very long time to learn, if it actually exists. Personally I think the method here looks fine but if it's that big of a deal the next step would probably be strip all the veneer off the whole side and redo the whole thing, if you can't cover it up with trim

Sometimes painting a cheaper piece is appropriate or the piece is in such bad shape that painting is the only viable option. But I'm so glad to see this one restored. Warms my heart. So sick of "furniture redo" videos that are just chalkboard paint over quality, restorable furniture.

keep in mind, those are VENEERED 'dovetailed' drawer fronts. If you follow her search, you will see that the drawer fronts, well they are dovetailed normally, but the true drawer fronts are just MDF to plywood. It's mid-century modern, so it's not some antique, more like fast-fashion of furniture

same! i received two pieces ( a dresser and side dresser) for free and updated them. They came out gorgeous. ❤ Now i thought i was going to flip them. I kept them. Its a signature of my talent and Im very proud of myself!

I have a full living room full of Lane furniture along with a Lane desk. They were bought by my parents in 1968 and are as beautiful today as they were when they were purchased. Sad they don't make quality furniture anymore. I hope you love yours as much as I love mine. ❤

Wow! I'm amazed at how well the blend all sticks worked. Definitely don't retire. Looks amazing. My husband works at a wood veneer factory. I have a lot of different species of wood veneer that I use for different projects.

I have 2 Lane pieces. A hope chest that I got at a garage sale for $75. It has all of the original paperwork and the key. I also have an old TV console that my mom talked my granddad into removing the TV and turning it into a storage cabinet. He was a carpenter. I have it in my dining room. He put 3 drawers and a shelf in it, and it closes up with sliding doors.

Ah...I'm watching this from atop a Lane Acclaim dovetail coffee table. We had it when I was a kid. Somewhere, somewhen, it lost the drawer and legs. My parents were going to toss the top, and I asked for it. I kept it for 30 years before having it mounted atop long legs so that I could use it as a computer desk. It still has crayon scrawlings underneath it from all of my siblings. I always loved it, and I'll never get rid of it.

Wow. I have that. My in laws married in 1960 and got the whole bedroom set. I was given it after marrying in 1999, but wanted something trendy from IKEA instead. We were out of money after purchasing out 1st home, so I kept the set. I have the drawer set twice the size of this one and both nightstands. I never changed it out and now I am grateful. I had no idea it was special.

My ex hubby & I used to flip furniture. My favorite piece was an 1940's dresser that was almost done for. It had 3 drawers but the top 2 were irreparable. So we turned it into a hall bench with 1 storage drawer. Amazing!!

That turned out so good. I’m so glad you didn’t paint it. I have a small apartment I have all wood furniture except for two pieces. One in the bedroom and one in the living room/kitchen (I did say it was a small apartment) Love both pieces but I love the wood furniture also. I would never paint the wood furniture I have.

Looks like new! Great job. I got a Lane Cedar Blanket Chest at my local Goodwill for $25 and the veneer is intact. I searched online and found a website that’s selling it for $1.475! Score!

I almost clicked away when I saw the beautiful wood grain popping through as you sanded.. But you saw it too! Great repair, it’s a beautiful piece. If you don’t keep it, I know a….. friend… who would love it. (Me)
