2012 i left my dad's place, was homeless for 8 months, saved money to get good cloths got a job in a contact center, stayed there for 2 years. I saved enough money to get a house and a computer. im a graphics designer dropout but i belong to a family of artist, illustrators and designers and i had it in my blood too. so i got adobe photoshop and illustrator and started freelancing in several websites, i used to do logos for somewhere between $10-60 if i got a $80 logo that was a fortune for me. took me 2 more years of studying and learning EVERYDAY none stop, i mean i was eating and breathing design. NOW ive got built a rag tag team of web dev, animators and editors, and i actually owe it to you Chris, because on one of your vid i learned what it takes to build a team, how to bid, how to get clients etc.. from a $10 logo to a $5000 brand design.

Amazing! Is is true? Why to leave dad's home? You know, I came to the USA in February, without money, living in my uncle's home till now. Working at Target and commuting by bicycle. But family are moving so I need to change job place. And I want to move directly to Minneapolis and live by myself. But I understand that it will be hard to survive working at some store and paying for rent. In a free time I should do web design and development (junior level now) but not so much power to do it.

I'm a fan of the "MVP" approach to graphic design. It saves you so much time and you get the same amount of feedback from the client upon presentation. It's a good way to test if you're on the right track or not, before spending hours creating a flawless mock-up that's nowhere near what the client wants.

I have seen so many start up interviews, and this by far is the best I've ever seen. I love that they hit the dark areas and even go into sacrifices in order to make something big. This really opens my eyes into building a business or just something that helps the community.

This topic is something that I always wanted to hear from start ups, because you mentioned the word "entrepreneur" has been romanticized and as a millennial it bothered me just hearing all the non-stop glam of start ups without the real struggle. I'm so happy that I have found this channel. Y'all have provided such great content and I appreciate what y'all are doing. Keep up the hard work!

deeym. I just dropped out of college this semester because of similar reason like he has and I really see that going through college is not the only way to "SUCCESS" and I know there are a lot of methods to be a successful individual someday. maybe each of us has a different understanding or ways to interpret success but as long as we're happy with the results of the decision we made for our future, I think it's enough. I'm pursuing graphic design and web development as of now and I know the road is going to be extremely difficult but I believe I can cross the road at the end. Thankfully I found this gem, this channel and especially this episode.

How does this not have more views?! Best video I've seen on KZfaq yet. Amazing feel to the demeanor of both participants. Asked the best questions and carried through potentially awkward topics with great poise. Exceptional interviewing skills. This channel needs to be much more publicized. Chris this is the first video I've ever seen you do and it's remarkably impressive. I'm also located in the Los Angeles area. How do I get a hold of you. I'd love to help further your cause and evangelize this great work you're doing I can already think of 3 key and influential people who help me in my life who needs to see this video. Content is valuable and powerful. Great questions. Chemistry and energy from interview is very rare and hard to find. Reminds me of Kevin from foundation but strongly comes back from potentially awkward topics with much more finesse. Job well done! Congrats

OK, I love all of your videos... but, starting today, out of all The Futur videos I have watched, this one has changed the course of my art career. I know I am a talented artist. Though, clearly my entrepreneurial skills are weak. I have tried and failed to create a sustainable income as an artist because I never solved the needs of the buyer. Which is the take away here, for me; finding the problem to solve and filling it. A thousand thanks for all that you do, Chris!

+Chau Nguyen great suggestion. I am definitely trying to do that more and more now. Being around other entrepreneurs is motivating to continue pushing forward. The friends that are working 9-5 and have a steady paycheck can't relate to the struggles and it gets demoralizing at times. Other entrepreneurs push you to your limits and are generally much more optimistic. Couldn't agree more 😊

I semi Dropped out, I started freelancing my Illustration and Design skills while in college, I have learned so much on my own, but I feel that College is a good first step in finding out if you want to stay in the "system" or break the grid as we designers say. I still take some classes, but I actually do not plan on graduating college, I have been offered Design jobs just based on my Portfolio, which is what really shows you skills and talents. Not a degree. Skool is the new paradigm of education, not a system based on out dated ethos and rhetoric, but real world application and knowledge. Great videos as always.

College/university is not the only nor the best path to follow anymore, specially in graphic design/web design/marketing field. Mark, Gates and this guy just disqualified a lot of people that have a bachelor or master degree. In the 21st century a degree is not necessary anymore, specially in graphic design/web design/marketing field, a great and solid portfolio is much more valuable than a degree and a degree does not translate into a great portfolio or vice-versa.

Could this maybe be a trick played by the company that hired him in the beginning, to hire him as a VP before hes done with college, to make sure he doesn't leave the company too soon? Because he cant leave without proper experience since now he doesnt have certified education? ...although it worked out well for both parties, I was just wondering maybe if thats what companies try to pursue by hiring young people in college to ensure reduced employee turnover rates...

I'm always learning something new every time I watch your videos. This video in particular was intriguing because I'm able to relate to Chau when he was in college about to drop out for a good opportunity. Idk if you asked Chau this off camera or not but is it possible to know how he handled his parents when they found out that he was going to get out of college and move to Cali. for the opportunity? I'm facing some tough times right now with my asian dad and he's an extremely stereotypical asian father. I'd just like to know how Chau handled his situation or if even you could just give me some advice. Thanks!
