Күн бұрынI'm always super happy to add a characters from Star Wars: A New Hope to the shelf, especially when it's the S.H. Figuarts variety. Old Ben Kenobi looks fantastic but he's not without his problems. Luckily most of them can be solved with a third party cloth robe. Unless you hate cloth on your action figures. In that case, enjoy your traffic cone, haha!

If by "dead version" you mean the empty robe and fallen lightsaber, I actually think it's an inspired and beautiful design decision. Think about what that image represents in the story. Like Jesus' empty tomb in the Bible story, it means that Kenobi is *_not_* dead, and that something miraculous has happened. Because of the nature of his act, Kenobi is more present at that moment than at any point in the entire saga.

Obi-Wan was sitting for almost half of the movie. lol In his hut, The cantina, Landspeeder, and in the Falcon. So not being able to recreate ANY of those scenes without a fabric cloth is a huge bummer. And TBH Compared to the first SHF Star Wars figures like Mace Windu or Maul, the new face sculpts look a bit......dull.....especially with lack of paint.

Commander Shepard Sadly Both the Black Series and Figuarts Suffer from Plastic Lower Robes, which Makes Seating either Figure Impossible, Unless You Shove them into the Landspeeder.

Robo, I love you man. You keep being you. 😄😂😂😂😂. The fact that you actually review toys while doing comedy is a bonus. Also, while they did a nice likeness of Sir Alec Guinness, I keep seeing Pete Townshend in the face. Guess it's the nose.

We just can’t win when it comes to soft goods vrs plastic/rubber. While I like the look of his robes and like you said old man didn’t do form 4 ataru so him not being able to do dynamic poses isn’t the worst. But it’s not just about ANH I know I like creating my own scenes and stories and for the dollar amount should be able to pose old man playing fracking twister if I want to. We as collectors just can’t win. Now I can go buy a cheap looking robe 3rd party or even a gorgeous one from an un named 3rd party for $70 but I already have that much into this figure and shouldn’t have to. Guess I gotta complain about something. Great review Roboh!

Gotta say I agree with you, Robo: the likeness and overall quality of the figure is, imo, amazing but the figure isn't without its flaws/complications. My main suggestions to improve it (if I could have any kind of influence over bandai, haha) would be 1. Cloth Cape 2. Some shading in the hair. But that's about it, for a SHF of OLD MAN OBI WAN (who barely moves in the movie), I think it's pretty solid. Speaking about solid, I want to say I appreciate all the visible editing that goes into your recent videos in order to make them entertaining and funny (without dropping the main priority, which is being informative). Good work, Robo!

I went a little over the top a couple of months ago with the editing and realized, hey, I'm reviewing toys, I can have fun without all this added clip stuff. So I'm still finding that balance, along with getting more comfortable with the camera. Thanks man!

My fencing instructor will have my head for this but..... he really needs a set of hands for holding the lightsaber in a hammer grip. A second set of lightsaber hands would go a long way towards maneuvering around the cloak's sleeves and make two handed grips easier.

Heh, thanks man. Honestly, I don't go into them trying to be funny, the figure usually dictates my level of frustration or joy, and then it just comes from that. The better time I'm having, the more I enjoy the toy, haha.

Dude, great review as always! I saw your insta post today and thought that the cloth looks miles better, especially when you actually show it on camera in the video. I, personally, would get an extra Mace Windu (for the plain tunic arms), attach them to the body of this Obi and paint the arms to match the color, but that would be a bit cost in-effective and you’d ruin a good SHF (Mace), but I digress. Great review, Robo and I look forward to more soon!

I almost mentioned that they should have included inner robe arms but then noticed they painted the shoulder butterfly joint half outer robe dark brown, so they kind of screwed themselves out of that. Cloth covers all of that though, I love the look of it now.

Killer boots man! Looks fantastic with the hood up, open eyes face & light saber in hand IMO. I prefer the plastic cape as not a fan of the cloth cape appearance (but I only plan to display him standing). Won't ever use the sleepy face or the floor cape but who cares as gonna look incredible with the other SHFA New Hope fig.'s & rest SWBS with the 40th anniversary pack stand in the backdrop. Was sorta on the fence about picking this one up after viewing the prototype but very glad I pulled the trigger. Thanks again for the thorough review & providing your take on the fig.

You'd be surprised how many people will try to tell you the Black Series are better. I think the only reasonable argument would be Darth Vader (and even then, I disagree) and the price itself.

Novapoid no one wants to own inferior figures especially once committed to the line. I personally can't stand hasbro as a company although I still occasionally collect them, figuarts is far superior.

Boknoy Buhisan Funny, I find Figuarts Elbow, Knee, and Butterfly Shoulder Joints Horrible. Seeing those "Balls" at the Elbows and Knees really distract from the Sculpt, as do the Cuts for the Butterfly Joints. It's all just a matter of Preference. Hasbro are Really Stepping Up Their Game. Not Only have they Vastly Improved their Face Paint with the PhotoReal paint apps, they're Constantly improving Articulation, but not at the Expense of the Sculpt. Jaina Solo is a Great Example of their Improved Articulation. Most newer figures can get a 45° bend now, with a Single Elbow. They've gone to a Dumbbell Joint for most of the newer Neck Articulation and even a Double Dumbbell joint on Young Lando's Neck, with a separate Neck piece.

I passed and I'm happy with that for now. I repainted my HBS head, figure, hands, the lot! So, that coupled with the cloth robe and lack of action poses means I'm happy with it. Interestingly, I thought the head photographed better than the video footage show, maybe it works better under a more muted light? Though a good level of accessories with it and good hand selection, so plaudits for that!

They did about as well as you can ask for without using any fabric. Are you able to swap out the arms from the epI or II Obi-Wans for a cloakless look? A bit of tan paint on the butterfly pieces, or swap them out too, and it oughta work out pretty well for your "he was a good friend" dioramas. I also appreciate the deep cut from Gus.

Monsieur Robo! Not an action figure of "an old man", but of Sir Alec Guinness (of "Dr Zhivago" and "Lawrence of Arabia" fame) in a vaguely Japanese bathrobe (is it from that George Lucas movie he did in the late 70s?)

Great Review as Always. I agree 100% that the Softgoods Robes are the way to go with this figure. It looks So Much Better than the Plastic Robes Figuarts did. That Plastic Hood looks Horrible no matter how You display it. It's also a shame they couldn't get the hands right to get him in that Classic, Double Handed Saber Pose to go with Vader.

I find that the cloth one gets when they buy new glasses, the one you use to clean them is the best kind of cloth to use for robes to scale. It just drapes so naturally.

I snagged the Stealth Iron Man thanks to a buddy overseas but I totally blanked on Hulk going up. He sold out fast, at least on all the import sites. I'll have to get the Bluefin version. Thanks for the heads up!

I'll start with the obligatory 'Hello, there...', and continue by saying; The face sculpt looks a little bit more like Stephen Stanton, than it does Sir Alec Guinness, to me. But, that still kinda fits, as Stanton voiced Obi-Wan during his appearance in Rebels -- doing a bang up Guinness impression!

I've gotten to where if there's a DHL option, especially now that Amiami is offering it for the same price as EMS, I go for DHL. They are super, super fast. EMS, my stuff usually gets held up in customs in Chicago.

I really like the BS use of soft goods for stuff like this. Though it makes me hope Mezco will do SW figures at some point just so I can be extra special angry over that. I completely forgot about this figure coming out and I haven't gotten the BS one either. I'm real split on what to do.

Did you review the new SHF Vader?? I can't remember. But I'm sure there'll be customs with arm swaps from ep 1 Obi and soft goods robes and inner robes that'll make this figure better and more posable. Keep the reviews coming bud, they are a highlight. Plus I want you to review the Revo Vader. It'll be hilarious!! 😂

Yeah, I reviewed the new SHF Vader a while back. I like it, but not as much as the MAFEX Rogue One. And that Revo Vader scares the hell out of me, haha.

Obi-Wan's Lightsaber didn't have the gold bits in ANH.

In ANH the gold bits are weathered to the point of appearing almost black with hints of bronze.

Codek5 The one that Rickhor calls an old Obi-Wan robe is in stock now but it's a lighter brown. (Much too light.) The one I have, and I think is the one in this video, is marketed as a prequel Obi-Wan robe. It's not up for sale at the moment. I haven't gotten my Figuarts old Obi-Wan in yet, but it works perfectly on the Black Series old Obi-Wan.

I kinda wish S.H. Figuarts would just do alternate heads instead of alternate faces, I know they do a good job of hiding the joints but it just seems tedious, the eyes closed head tilted back slightly look like he’s savouring a fart and waiting for others to smell it

Although i think the plastic capes/ robes look better, they are too much of a hindrance to the articulation. Figures like this with a lot of robes should be done in soft goods. However i think they can find a better material for the soft goods than they usually use. Needs to be a material that actually hangs and doesnt look poofy or sticks up in weird positions. There was a neca batman that used almost a silk like material that i think would work really good for soft goods capes and robes on a lot of figures. I think it was the neca vs predator figure that had that silk like cape material.

Cloth is always better in my opinion. Doesn't get in the way as much as plastic does.

Exactly. I can see why people have a problem, and I'll admit it has to be nicely done for me to use it, but freeing up movement is so much more satisfying to me.

i'm not too keen on wanting more of the sh figs cause of my experience with that damn jedi knight luke figure. errgh! trying to put his hand on different and the whole thing was a huge pain in the ass.

That Luke and worse, Maul, was a huge pain in the ass in that department. I'm always scared that new ones will have that same problem but I haven't really ran into it much since those two. Maybe Kylo?

Instead of the custom robe, have you tried the Black Series Obi Wan's cloth robe on this Figuarts version? The custom robe is pricey at the moment and i was wondering if we can get by with re-utilize the Black Series cloth robe

The SWBS robe is just a little smaller but it'll work.

A gripe I have with this Ben Kenobi is that Alec Guinness was 5”11 and Mark Hamill is 5”8 so either Ben should be half an inch taller or Luke should’ve half an inch shorter. Vader might also be n bit tall compared to Ben. And I know that Vader is supposed to be like 6”3 in the suit and therefore is 4” taller that Ben but maybe make his action Figure like maybe a half an inch shorter.

This is definitely one of the most excellent old ben figures in existence in the 6 inch size, I would say though that there's something I like slightly better about the 50th Anniversary Black Series one. Black series is hit or miss, but the 50th anniversary old ben is just beautiful as far as sculpt goes, lacking in fabric obviously. All the other Black Series Bens suck imo

Some of these S.H. Figuarts just don’t cut it. As a standing figure it’s good. The likeness isn’t too great. I must admit it is nice.
