I started a few weeks after release, I play slowly but I’m 60 hours in and still not nearly halfway done with everyone stories. I knew I’d like this game but I did not expect to fall so in love with it. I cannot put it down and even when I have to, I’m thinking about and new strats I want to try, new places I want to explore and how I can complete side quests. I love the characters and their stories. Some are dark and some just want to bring dance and prosperity to the world. I may not find much in common with every character but I still find their stories charming and I still am very invested in them. This game has so many different ways to go, no 2 playthroughs will ever be the same. I could playthrough again with another starting character and have a completely different experience. This game is an absolute blast. I get burnt out on games but not this one, not even close. It’s paced well, I haven’t done much grinding at all and if I do it is brief and fun and for a specific purpose. I still have SO MUCH to do, explore, unlock and defeat. As a woman I wanted a female main protagonist and I had such a hard time choosing! Most of the time female characters are relegated to a sexy sidekick, a healer or magical mage etc. Sure there are some character tropes, but all females in this game were viable leads, had cool backstories, powers, abilities and designs. Once I began I started questioning my decision to start with a female because every single character was so cool. I thought Temenous would be a bland pious cleric… but nope. He straddles that good/evil line for fun, is hilarious and a great detective! I thought Partitio would be a sleezy, greedy, money grubbing merchant, but nope! Man just wants everyone to be prosperous and wants poverty to be eradicated. And Agnea just wants to dance! How can you not love them all? I adore this game! I missed the first one but it didn’t have any effect on how much I enjoy this game. Easily game of the year so far. Depending on Tears of the Kingdom and the rest of the year, it’ll at least be JRPG of the year. ❤

I picked Oswald because his story reminded me of the count of Monticristo .

I'm the rare person who liked how the first game connected the characters. It was like a big reveal. You did have to dig a bit, but I'm used to from soft games, which are significantly worse. I also like secret bosses and post game content, so it just worked for me.

3:40 minor mistake: in OT2 you no longer use shrines to get secondary jobs. Instead you went to guilds to get secondary job licenses

what a great year this has been, and will continue to be. first it was Fire Emblem Engage, then Octopath Traveler 2 (absolutely amazing game, my favorite storyline was Temenos), now Resident Evil 4 remake, and soon Advance Wars. And then, Zelda 🤯 is almost here too ❤

What do you mean by it not fully connecting all the stories? The whole overarching story this time was done FAR better than in the first game (where it ended up just being a massive plot dump at the end). If you mean by each individual character story not connecting, that's a design choice. The devs wanted each character story to be specific to that character alone.

Man I love this game, I hope more people play it. At first I was a little disappointed in the lack of interaction, but as the 8 stories unfolded I fell in love with each of them, well mostly, I actually was not the biggest fan of Osvald (which I know alot of people liked).

200 hours in the game and I wish I there were more hidden bosses in the game. This is perhaps the game where both melee and caster need each other. I started the game with Temenos and he did not disappoint! The character development is a lot more complex than most RPGs that I have played. I hope Square Enix can continue making games like this. I'm looking forward to the continuation of this even more than Final Fantasy XVI.

Definitely agree. It’s slowly becoming one of my favourite jrpgs of all time. And certainly one of the best looking games I’ve ever played

It took me a little while to get into it, I think I would have enjoyed the beginning more if I started out as Ochette, for the light hearted adventurous feeling , Hikari or Osvald, as their stories were more engaging to me...... but eventually have been really starting to enjoy it :)

I played the demo and loved it, so looking forward to playing the full game! Also, just realized something, BP? Boost points = Brave points, and they give you a way to attack several times in one turn? They ARE the people who made the Bravely Default series!

I am so happy to see some Agnea love! Reddit kinda love to hate in her story, but I thought her story was so wonderful, it had a great ending and that final boss and music was everything! That veing said, I think the emotional impact of Castti's story was my favourite! Overall it's an incredible game and I agree that it's the best RPG of 2023 so far!

Unless FF16 utterly wows me, this will be hard to beat for my personal GOTY. I loved everything about this game, and was way better than the original imo. The graphics, the characters, the individual stories and my god, the music, are all so, so amazing. Agnea was also a stand out for me. I thought originally her story was the weakest, but as I got towards the end and did her final chapter, I was weeping happy tears of joy about the power of friendship lol. The Song of Hope is one of the best things my ears have ever heard.

Never played an OCTOPATH game. Downloaded it 2 weeks ago, didn’t open it until last night and now I can’t put it down. It’s really the BEST mobile game out right now

As much as i love Octopath 1, this sequel had a more compelling cast of characters. Everyone had stellar stories that i found myself more invested in than most of the original cast. Especially Throne. A thief wanting to leave a criminal syndicate she was forced to grow up in is much more interesting than Therion wanting to get some 'fool's bangle' off his arm.

It is my favorite RPG of the year to so far. Granted I have only played it and One Piece Odyssey so not much competition. I still gotta try the Engage. And honestly I don't see anything topping it for the rest of the year.

How did they make the mistake with the shrines? The shrines unlock EX skills in this game. The way to equip other jobs is getting the licenses from the guilds.

Honestly, I hated the first one. It's not that I hate the genre, tbh. It's just that WAY too many JRPGs suffer from human-sue syndrome. EVERYTHING needs to be bad unless it looks like a human, and you'd think for a genre that's typically story driven, that JRPGs would be deeper then that, but they rarely are. It didn't matter to me how amazing the graphics were, because you cannot get me to care about human-sues. What really hurts the most, as someone who really likes animals and has a lot of respect for nature, is that NONE of the characters are portrayed with compassion for nature except the huntress: the one character that SHOULDN'T be portrayed with compassion for nature. I'm so @#$%ing sick of having it shoved down my throat what amazing, heroic people hunters are and how they're the ONLY true nature lovers and if you don't slaughter animals for a living, then you are vile and evil. God forbid the idea that an animal lover who's NOT portrayed as an evil dickwad be ANYTHING other than a hunter. Saddly, it looks like the second game just has a rehashed cast where I have the exact same problems with it. I couldn't care about anyone's story in the first game, and I couldn't care about anyone's story in the second. I didn't want to play the combat because I straight-up didn't want to hear anyone's story, and I just found myself getting frustrated with how bland the story was. And, once again, MOST JRPGs suffer from that. It's not that I dislike the genre, it's that I'm just really frustrated and exhausted by human-sue syndrome. Having a non-human playable or showing life is valuable beyond humanity won't kill you, devs.

Well if it is sponsored by an Octopath Traveler mobile game, of course an Octopath game would be the best game of the year. Just like Raid Shadow Legends was loved by thousands of content creators.

I wanted to love this game, and I did up until I got to the final bosses of each character's path. The difficulty spike was prohibitively difficult and it killed my enjoyment of the game.

The lack of visual customization keeps me away from this game =/

Ive been looking for a game like this FOREVER. I played so many RPG's thinking they'd be like old school FF titles, only to ditch them a few hours in because I lost interest. Earthlock, CrossCode, Chrono Trigger, Chained Echoes, Lost Sphear etc. I think they were missing that polish and i just kept thinking "why the fuck am I playing this". But this however, scratches that itch perfectly and I'm glad I bought it. Haven't been this enamoured with a game since Xenoblade Chronicles X(a hidden gem on the Wii U btw). Sounds weird but I love a game where I can just grind the absolute shit out of it. Most people would say it takes the challenge out of it but I actually enjoy just staying in the same spot and grinding/saving gold so I can buy the best weapons etc. It's weird but the repetition is almost therapeutic in a sense.
