SIR, that no-consonants doubling track idea is BRILLIANT. My favourite vocal recording tip recently is for gang vocals: sing each take from different places in the room (and different distances from the mic) before any panning/EQ/effects work.

Thanks Patrrrrrrrick!👍 So, I had this low vibration/rumble (which I always heard was a sign someone doesn't know what they're doing....like me😃), I could hear in two spots in my song after I mastered it. I wrote down your compression settings, tweeked them as needed and applied a high pass filter (ie:Dean Davis)...The vibration gone! And thanks to your compression recommendations, My vocal sounds SO much better ..thanks for the help!🎶👏👍

Ha, that last tip was gold. Back in the day, when we couldn't remember the exact lyrics, we would just sing "the vowel sounds" and get away with it. Same idea, and a good one!

I learned it while recording my high school band's first 'EP' (on tape no less - yes i'm THAT old) and it's still a trick I use to this day!

how do you side chain compress in GB?

I wish you had demonstrated, for example, a short sample with no compression and then repeated the same with compression so that we could better understand this feature. Same applies to echo, etc.

Hello patrick, my question is why is my vocals sound so much inside of a box? Even i proper eq and compressed it. Is it about my audio interface? Which is m audio mtrack duo only. Thanks for your respond. Cheers

Hi Patrick, I bought an iPad Pro 12.9" and all the necessary acc. for recording with GarageBand but haven't done much with them. I want to record mostly live instruments - piano, keyboards, guitars, vocals and have been watching dozens of your videos. I would like to get going again. I heard last night that you're using a M1 Mac Mini (I presume 16gb of RAM). 1. Is the Mac Mini plenty or would you recommend a Mac Studio? 2. Should I just stick with an iPad Pro? 3. Any reason to upgrade to Logic Pro? Thanks so much!
